Are these MRIs done while upright? Can Chiari 1 with EDS be diagnosed without an upright MRI?

I just figured out my sister has Chiari Malformation. I'm terrified about recommending surgery, however, because every time one of us has surgery, things just sag/slide back into place. How do we know it won't just slip back to where it was?

It's trial and error. I did the decompression but I also had hydrocephalus. 2 more procedures we're done but my seizures are controlled by meds

Hi Dr. Gilmer. How are you? I have a friend suffering from Chiari I and is currently needing the surgery performed. Her insurance doesn't cover the procedure unfortunately and she is also not able to receive disability from her job. Could you let me know if she could be a candidate for the procedure or if there are any other measures she can take so that she doesn't lose full mobility of her body. She is a 30 year old mom and her symptoms began 5 years ago and have only worsened. Here is her gofundme page with her story. www.gofundme.com/ttnette
