Annular Solar Eclipse October 14 2023 from Albuquerque, NM

  • Using my Lunt 100MT telescope, I took 276 500-frame video captures with a Saturn SQR-M camera, one every 30 seconds during the eclipse. Then I stacked the best 100 frames from each video into a TIF. Then I used ImPPG to sharpen each photo, and Topaz deNoise AI to denoise them. Then I aligned them and added color. Then I imported them to iMovie and made an animation.

    Probably one of the coolest videos (time-lapse) I've seen in a long time.

      @@AZASTROGUYI have another question for you if you don't mind me asking. I noticed some people's videos, I think including a couple of yours. That you measure "seeing" with a program, using your camera.
      Is there any other way of knowing if there's good seeing? Kind of feel like an idiot asking but is there like an app or something that can tell you if the atmospheric conditions where you are are better or worse. Or no?

      @@philipchesleyiii yes. Two apps: Astrospheric and Good to Stargaze both provide seeing forecasts. Also the website meteoblue.com shows astronomy seeing. Unfortunately the 3 seldom agree but it is a start

    I was there for that. I have the data and ready to process. The question is do I do the flip and 180 to match binocular and camera view or just use the telescope view like yours? Decisions decisions… Nice work once again. Was it hard holding alignment for 3+ hours? Learned a lot prepping for April 2024! ❤👍

      If I was to do it again, I would flip it to match the visual view. Alignment was fine except near maximum eclipse where I had to do some manual adjustments.

    Beautiful!! Do you have an how to capture and process this sort of sequence of images to make such a video? Did you capture each image as a still or SER? How did you process it afterwards? I am planning to do exactly the same thing this Monday but am not sure on the best way to proceed.

    Very nice! How do you do your image alignment?

    • @AZASTROGUY
      @AZASTROGUY  Před 10 měsíci +3

      There is an alignment tool built into ImPPG software.

    How many frames was in this video? A white light version may have been easier.
