I completely botched the Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 section, here's a better video on that game: czcams.com/video/GqrjF5h9zgI/video.html
All of these SNES baseball games are LOUSY. BASEBALL STARS is the BEST, & I mean the FIRST "BASEBALL STARS" that came out for NINTENDO.
Coming back 6 years after to right a wrong, what a hero.
@@BXGUY73 Griffey Presents MLB isn't lousy dude...baseball stars is good but Bad News Baseball blows that away..
I came in here to tell you how bad you botched it haha. Glad you made an updated video :).
What happened to the SNES game Sports Illustrated Championship Football/Baseball? I think you may have left it out.
Ken Griffey jr baseball is definitely worth playing today. It has met and surpassed the test if time.
if
Most definitely. A great game.
I still play 2020 super baseball, too.
The show 17 brought back the same game play and buttons with modern graphics
Best baseball game ever made.
I love Super Baseball Simulator 1.000! I can't believe you didn't mention the powerups. Playing this game with friends and choosing a wacky ass powerup to screw them over with was so much fun
I have a way you can play with realistic MLB players. Comes out surprising accurate.
I'm glad that this was the first comment. This game was BOATLOADS of fun, even if you weren't a baseball fan. It was like an action game in a baseball game. Full length seasons, stats, different character sprites for the hitters, even different batting stances! This game was the best.
@bill gates b&r
I scored a hundred runs once on there
So many great memories of that game.
I LOOOOOOOOVE SUPER BASEBALL 2020!!!
I still play it til this day.
Im with you
1. Super Baseball 2020
2. Ken Griffey Jr MLB
Griffey Jr presents is one of my 5 favorite video games of all time. The countless hours I put into that game, I even edited the rosters.
Extra Innings is one of my favorite SNES games, and I'd totally forgotten about it 'til it showed up in your video!
Extra Innings has long been a guilty pleasure of mine; I had no idea there was a Japan-only sequel. It offered customizable seasons, from 10 games to the full 162 games, and had great team and player names (I particularly loved the team composed of scientists and philosophers such as Euclid, Pavlov, etc.). Just a fun experience all around.
I agree with you, I think is the best baseball game, or at least the most enjoyable to play. You are right the scientist team was the best!!
Super Batter Up was the first video game I played. That music never gets out of your head lol
Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu eventually came over to the US as MLB Power Pros in 2007 and 2008 for the PS2 and Wii. It's in my top 5 favorite video games.
I love MLB Power Pros and 08, played a ton as a kid
Your videos are awesome. So much information, relevant game play video and all quickly with no filler. I can't imagine how long this 11 minute video took from start to finish including game play, voice over, & editing. Your my favorite reviewer on CZcams. Keep up the great work!
+wiggy1182 Thanks
I agree. SNES DRUNK is the fuckin' man!
wiggy1182 best reviewer ever
You completely left out the best part of Tecmo Super Baseball: the amazing amount of statistics the game keeps track of during the season play. The fielding is something you can get used to, and you can change the fielder's default positions as well. Don't rule that one out.
I'm surprised Baseball Stars was never released on the SNES, SNK were porting everything over at the time :S
Great game!
Dynamic Stadium and Super Baseball 2020 were as close as the SNES got to Baseball Stars 2 being ported. Same batting and fielding style as BS2, and 2020 was released in arcades through SNK.
It was released on the NES. Well sort of... there were a couple games by that name, but obviously fairly dumbed down. I guess SNK was over Baseball Stars by this time and just went for Super Baseball 2020
Baseball Stars is the best baseball game of all time in my opinion. However, Baseball Stars 2 was a total flop. I remember saving up $60 worth of chores and allowance money (took forever) to buy that game when it was released, only to be *HUGELY* disappointed!!! Worst sequel ever and I have a feeling the game died off afterwards because the second game was so bad...
Surprising enough, Baseball Stars was released on the NES. Interesting...
hey man, i'm so glad you said Ken Griffey MLB was the crown jewel. just so happened I got it inclued in a snes lot I recently purchased from ebay. you never cease to please my friend.
dont even have to be a baseball fan to enjoy ken griffey presents. so fun.
RetroR0bbie I was such a huge fan of that game as a kid that I forced myself to love the inferior Winning Run just about as much, and later when I had an N64 and had received GoldenEye for my birthday in 1997 instead of the new Griffey game I had read about in various magazines that was to be out by May of that year I promptly had my Mom take me to KB Toys to return it unopened for a copy of Griffey 64, and alas it wasn't there! (The game was beset by many delays which I learned later, it would suffer at least 2 further). So I placed a pre-order and went back home with my random James Bond game which I knew nothing about up to that point, nor was I even familiar with the license as a 10 year old. Obviously this ended up being quite the lucky occurrence as GoldenEye ended up being an all time classic that I spent endless time with, along with making many great memories playing with my brother/cousins and friends in the awesome multiplayer. I did eventually get my hands on Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball, and while I definitely loved and played the crap out of that game, it wasn't until Slugfest that I was presented with an experience that at least mostly lived up to, if not perhaps surpassed the original 1994 release with it's near perfectly well rounded gameplay, and it's damn near console best graphics with all it's optional video filtering, and actual widescreen option. So yeah, all in all just a great series in which the first, and last games are it's definitive best, and it's a shame at least a couple more weren't squeezed out in that time frame either between the OG 4, or on the GameCube. The latter of which was obviously prevented by Griffey's move to the non Nintendo owned Cincinnati Reds, and the subsequent beginning of the downfall of his career due to repeated injury.
RetroR0bbie I still think about Griffy game, to this day!!. You could re-release the game with trades and league leaders stats, and it would be a smash hit again.
@@SeGa32xXx1 Dude, I agree with everything you said. I loved the original Griffey and then when Winning Run came out I rushed to buy it and was kind of left underwhelmed. It was just meh. And like you said, the first N64 Griffey was better, but it was kind of...unpolished. It felt incomplete. And then Slugfest came out. Like you said, that game actually recaptured the spirit and fun of the original SNES Griffey. So much ao that I was still playing Slugfest 2 or 3 years later because nothing else was nearly as good. Creating players was tons of fun. And the hitting, pitching and fielding were super easy to master and great.
Glad to know others loved Slugfest as much as I did. Still, nothing will ever beat the original SNES Griffey. I edit the teams with a rom hack editor every year and still play it to this day.
@@DarthBrtt It's so cool when you happen across that needle in a haystack of a person who experienced things of a particular variety like this and felt essentially the same way haha. Slugfest was such a fun time back in the day, I still fired it up all the way up to a couple years ago since when a game is just as fun as it was, it will still always be an enjoyable time to play it again. Also totally agree about the first Ken Griffey as you already know, what a breath of fresh air that game was, it truly brought the meaning of massive fun mixed with acceptable pace to video game baseball at release... Not that Tommy L. Baseball on the Genesis was a BAD game, quite fun in its own right, but Griffey was just on another level entirely.
Ikr
ken griffey jr and super baseball 2020. put sooooo many hours into these two!!
And Griffey Jr. 1 is the basis for the Retro mode now found in MLB The Show.
Had no idea about the RBI baseball 'sequel'....I'll have to see if I can track down a copy....
It's easily one of the best baseball games on the snes
super baseball 2020 is my favorite baseball game
Me too :D
Is that the neo geo game that had the robots?? If thats what im thinkin of that was real fun i agree
Mine as well
Me Too!!!!!!
For sure. Anyone who says different hasn’t played it enough!
Ken Griffey Jr. Baseball to me is the best baseball game ever made. Nothing has come close to it.
Played both Baseball Tonight and Big Hurt and liked them both. The players actually had smooth, athletic movements.
We played the shhhh out of Tecmo Super Baseball. We (five friends) had what we called Battle Games. Mostly around Tecmo Super Baseball, Bill Walsh College Football on the SNES and NBA Live '95. Anything that could happen in these games did happen. Inside the park home runs, triple plays, grand slam home runs, hitting for the cycle, perfect games, all happened. NBA games averaged 300 points typically, mainly playing with the Lakers, Miami Heat, Charlotte Hornets and Seattle Supersonics. Bill Walsh depending on the teams used were either very low scoring or very high scoring it no in-between.
KEN GRIFFEY JR.'S WINNING RUN and Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu Basic '98
WOW! I really enjoyed your tour of all the SNES Baseball games. I was always a fan of "Extra Innings" back in the early 90's, that game use to get lots of hate for being "too kiddie", but I always thought it had a strong baseball engine under the graphical style. Also a longtime fan of Konami's "Jikyu Power Pro Yakyu" game's for years. Those remained enjoyable (and extremely difficult) on the Sega Saturn, PlayStation, and PS2. Namco's Famista games were a lot of fun too. It always felt like I was enjoying these strange Japanese baseball games in a vacuum, and I'm glad to see other people checked them out and enjoyed them too. Never knew Culture Brain continued on the the "Baseball Sim 1.000" series, they look fun. Also agree that "Human's Power League" games were crummy.
I play Tecmo Super Baseball to this day. I love the guaranteed HR, with the organ music playing while rounding the bases, the stats, and real players.
Super baseball 2020 was fantastic, super baseball simulator 1,000 was awesome as well. especially because of the power ups.
Patrick Mahomes’ dad pitching in Big Hurt Baseball a year before his kid was drafted into the NFL? Coincidence or excellent foresight!
In this video, it took SNES Drunk exactly four minutes and twenty-five seconds until the mention of "Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball", the crown jewel pf SNES Baseball games.
It's crazy how well Super Baseball 2020 did at predicting the future.
Yeah Powerful Pro is a sad case where I just can’t figure out how to play it, but the audio design is better than any other especially by the last game. Even the reverb on the stadium announcer sounds realistic!
Oh man. I have become so obsessed with baseball, I searched my roms for all baseball and yakyuu gamea and been bringing my sfc over to my friends house to play. I don’t know how you found some of these, but thank you so much for being thorough. Dolucky Stadium with the animals and licensed coke sponsors is soooo fun.
You didn't talk about the power ups for super baseball simulator 1000 I am disappoint
Yeah this and Griffey were the best on SNES
You didn't mention the special powers in baseball simulator. That is what makes the game fun.
Man I love your reviews, I love the concise nature of them and you cover games really comprehensively but also fairly.
I highly, HIGHLY recommend you play on SFC baseball game that you did not cover here though: Downtown Nekketsu Baseball Monogatari. It's a comical baseball game starring the Kunio-kun cast of characters, familiar in America to fans of River City Ransom and Super Dodge Ball.
Honestly one of my favorite games on the system, spend some time getting through the menus and play it a bit, the mechanics are just so fun. I'm not even saying you should review it, just please play this game
Ken Griffey Jr Baseball is the bees knees!
Super bases loaded 3 and the two ken griffey games are always my favorites and i still play them
Wow, Big Hurt Baseball definitely brings back some memories. I was so young when we had that game, I couldn't remember the name until watching this video.
Ken Griffey Jr. presents major league baseball is the best, most addictive baseball game/ game period in my opinion. I went and got a snes last week just to play that game again. I had my mom get it for me when iz 10 yrs old when it came out back in 94. It was light years ahead of its time and was a big part of my childhood. It made all other baseball games look ridiciolus and no fun at all. It was like NHL 94, a true jem that is as good today as it ever was. Hall of Fame game.
What about Baseball Simulator 1.000 and Baseball Stars?
How can you talk about Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 and not mention the fact that the game gives players super powers, like turning the ball in the ball to an iron ore that hard to hit, or the rocket hit that sends people flying to the to the end of the field, or that one hit that reverse the controls for the other team. I think you need to go back and try Ultra mode. It's anything but basic.
I KNOW!!!! WHAT THE HELL!!!??
Seriously, I was just about to post a very similar comment. It was one of my favorite baseball games, not just because it was done well as a baseball game, but also because of all those special features (and the space stadium). It actually made baseball not quite so boring as hell. Great game!!
There's a way to play Super Baseball Simulator using real players.
yea snes drunk is a piece of shit
I remember playing Ken Griffey Baseball (or something like that). That game was actually pretty legit
Griffey is an obvious top choice but I love Super Bases Loaded and Roger Clemens MVP baseball.
Great Video! I'm purchasing an SNES soon as was looking for a good vid about baseball games and you nailed it! Baseball 2020 was my favorite Neo Geo AES game as a kid and I've been collecting N64 games for several years now and Major League Baseball Featuring Ken Griffey Jr is probably my favorite baseball game of all time. It's good to know he's got a good game on the SNES as well.
I edit Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 to real MLB teams and the stats come out surprisingly accurate. It's great fun playing 165 game seasons!
Great vid man...it's nice to see a sports fan (you seem to be) reviewing sports games. And you're spot on about Griffey...that game is fantastic...I even made a 1996 hack a few years ago and plan to make more. Take care man.
"It's so real"
-Sammy Sosa
i had no idea. You fixed my list.
Yay! I bought the right baseball game thanks SNESdrunk! I'm still hoping you'll someday do a soccer video too even though you told me on Reddit you're not huge on soccer :P
Top 5 SNES Baseball games:
5. 7:32 Super Baseball 2020 by SNK
4. 1:21 Dynamic Stadium
3. 1:58 Extra Innings
2. 9:14 Super Batter Up by Namco
1. 4:21 Ken Griffey Jr Presents MLB
best snes drinking game video? I'll just leave that idea here.... your vids are great man love the sarcastic approach, you are the lost love child of the gaming historian and the angry video game nerd
+xH4ZYx Thanks for watching! Although now I'll never look at my parents the same way again
7 years later and this comment did NOT age well.
Super Baseball 2020 was AWESOME! I had so much fun playing that as a kid. I was happy to see it appear here.
Great work Sir thank you
I laughed so hard every time he spoke a japanese game,
GREAT channel! really good info and comedy!
Subscribed!
I loved Extra Innings so much. Still trying to get my hands on it again.
Great video ❤
I also like Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball and Super Baseball 2020. I have Hardball 94 for the Genesis and I usually crushed the other team, scoring at least 20-30 runs a game.
We played so much baseball simulator 1.000 when I was a kid. You pretty much nailed it. Simple but extremely fun.
Roger Clemons baseball was the first SNES game I remember playing.
I loved Extra Innings as a kid. I used to make my own team and play a season. I used to write down my batters stats and everything.
I enjoyed bases loaded. Loved the "over the shoulder" view from the pitcher angle.
I've put soooooo many hours into Extra Innings since I was a kid! I created elaborate leagues and ran seasons.
Nice review 👌 👏 👍 😀
Thumbs up if you like Kirby Puckett.
I though it was a Kirby game 😀 (i don't know anything about baseball)
Not large in height but quite stout!
I loved your video on the first Griffey game and it's still one of my favorite sports games of all time. I still have a childhood friend that I get together with at least once a year and we drink beer and play Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball.
+Your_Savior_23 Thanks, that sounds awesome. I have a Twins season going right now, I play a couple games while I'm on the treadmill
Love extra innings and Ken Griffey games ‼️
I wish they had ported Basewars to the SNES. That game was bizarre, but pretty awesome. Baseball as Robots with crazy different abilities, and you pitched the ball with a Mega Man style buster charge shot.
Great upload brah.
Tecmo Baseball's camera angle from the fielder's point of view seems really unique and fun! A lot of people in this comment section seem to enjoy the game, so I'm going to check it out despite SNESdrunk's recommendation against it.
I love this retrospective. I am not a sports game guy, but when you put Extra Innings in your top 5, I was totally in agreement! I found Extra Innings for 99 cents at Game Crazy years ago and it became my favorite baseball game EVER! Prior to that I liked World Class Baseball for the Turbografx-16. But Extra Innings takes the top spot for this non sports guy!
Thanks for this, looks like Pro Yakyuu Star is the game I'd love the most here apart from 2020 Super Baseball
Thanks for this, looks like Jikyouu Yakyuu is the game I'd love the most here apart from 2020 Super Baseball
Good informative video. Retro sports games don't get enough love. I might check out a few of these.
+SamuraiSam Thanks, and I agree, sports games get dismissed too easily
Forget being the best baaeball game, Ken griffey Jr baseball is the best sports game of all time...period!
I've started and finished a whole season with almost every team, and I still play it today.
Ken Griffey Jr's Winning run is one of my favourite sports games ever. I liked the first Griffey game quite a bit as well, but WInning Run was the ticket
Jay P.
Totally agreed. On the SNES, the trophy goes to Winning Run and Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu Basic '98.
@@2010MrIsaac I still play Winning Run from time-to-time lol I havent played the other one, but wow, what a mouth full lol
Soundtrack for Winning Run was so damn good too
Dynamic Stadium has great fielding and visuals, but if you play long enough, there are some SERIOUS FLAWS. The umpire called strike on a ball behind the batter (without swinging), and they also called foul on a dead center homerun!!!!!! (it was for the opponent, but still, this is nuts!!!)
I actually loved Tecmo Super Baseball as a kid because it was all I had 🤣
None for me but a SNESdrunk vid is a SNESdrunk vid 😃
Ken Griffey Jr's Winning Run was my favorite. Hitting took me awhile to get down, but the depth of the game takes the cake. Example: in season mode the value of your players goes up/down based on their performance; not to mention all of the seasonal stat tracking. Also, back to hitting, although it took me awhile to figure out how to hit fly balls vs grounders, once I figured it out, I played this game to death. Best baseball game for SNES. Also, fantastic music.
Extra innings is the best snes game no one ever talks about . Easily my #1 sports game ever .
I played baseball 2020 for hours
So it's 2018 and we don't have robots that play baseball yet
KGkr Winning Run is one of my all time favorites.
you already know Ken Griffey Jr gunna be on here 🔥
During quarantine all I need is Ken Griffey Baseball and Madden 97 on SNES and I’m good
Super Bases Loaded was my jam! The fun of the game was trying to beat the computer with a complete game without mistakes. Very challenging for a baseball game. It's hard to do even with the Edit Team and maxed out players. Lots of fun!
Watched for Super Baseball Simulator 1000, my personal fav. You were fair enough, but you didn't even touch on the special abilities (pitches/hits/field moves).
Great video! My personal favories are Ken Griffey, Jr. Presents MLB, Super Baseball Simulator 1.000, Super Batter Up, MLBPA Baseball and Roger Clemens MVP Baseball.
snesdrunk do you remember if your harikiri stadium footage is from harikiri 1 or harikiri 2? I want to buy a hard copy one but not sure which you reviewed specifically
Ken Griffey Jr's Winning Run and superbaseball 2020 great
You and me agree on this top 5. I always thought Griffey/Batter up/ and Extra Innings were the 3 best baseball games of the 16 bit era, hands down. Only thing is that the turbo-grafx has the next best one: World Class Baseball. I once pitched a 27 strike out game as the NY Apples in that game.
Ken Griffey was the first game I'd ever seen where you could break the bat. I remember that blowing my mind when I was a kid.
I was a hardball fan growing up both PC and gaming systems. Now, if I was still a gamer, I would need a game that offered franchise mode.
Wow. I had no idea there were so many!
Wow Big Hurt Baseball was on the SNES?! That's impressive, since when you just look at it it looks like something you'd rather expect on the PS1 :o
Super Bases Loaded was my favorite.
Good Segment.
Super Baseball Simulator 1.000 is amazing and so much fun. Me and my friend used to play it everyday when it came out. Ken Griffey Jr. presents MLB is the best though. I actually did a full season in that game. Super Baseball 2020 is great too. It was a very cool concept for a game back then and still holds up.
Super Batter Up is the definition of a baseball game.
MLBPA baseball is my favorite snes baseball game. Griffey 2nd, then super baseball simulator 1,000
LOVE extra innings
Worth mentioning in Super Bases Loaded 3: the really nice looking rotoscoped swings of various (about two per team) MLB stars. Choose someone like Barry Bonds or Tony Gwynn - their swing looks just like it does on TV.
Great video, don't know if this was pointed out but a lot of the Japanese games look like they have NPB license (Japanese league) and sometimes, like in super bases loaded it's ported to the us. You can tell since there are twelve teams and they have distinct colors, seibu lions especially with aqua/orange/green.
The only issues I have with Ken Griffy Jr baseball is stats are only kept for the team you control during a regular season and when fielding with less than 2 outs and a man on 1st the computer ALWAYS tries to get the lead runner out. Other than that it's a GREAT game. In fact I've got a season going on right now as the St. Louis Cardinals.
