  • Compared to everything we accomplished in this van build, electrical was definitely the most stressful part of it all. Luckily, we had Madie's dad to come to the rescue and help us out - thanks Steve :)

Holy electrical 😳 Who trusted us to do this correctly on our own?? Luckily we got a little help along the way. Do you think you could wire a van? Honestly it BOGGLED our minds when we first had to start thinking about it 🥵

I've watched like twenty different van lifers do builds from scratch. I've watched many Bob Wells videos( he was in Nomadland and runs CheapRVliving channel) and Will Prowse is the go to solar electric guy.

Few comments: those house switches are only rated for 15A - make sure you don't exceed that especially on the one for the inverter.
Wiring your panels in series instead of parallel will give you better power on cloudy days, so long as you got a MPPT controller. If it doesn't say MPPT it's probably PWM.
Not sure how big of an inverter you're planning for but I'd usually recommend using a circuit breaker instead of a fuse for it, as small as 1200W is 100A at 12V and 100A fuses won't fit in those little fuse panels

Thanks for the comments!! For the house switches, those are ran directly to our inverter through a “extension cord” that was made up using 10 gauge wire. Our inverter is actually pretty tiny (500 watt) only because the only 120V electronics that we are using are our laptops/phones! Again, thanks so much for the comments 😁😁
