  • We delve into the history of beloved music genres.
    On this channel, we love to post playlists that feature future garage and chillstep tracks. Today we’re going to learn what are the roots of these genres: we will visit famous New York club that was deeply influential to US and UK Garage, get to know the legendary tracks of its family tree, understand where does “step” in the genre names comes from, learn what’s the difference between four-on-the-floor and 2-step, discover classic dubstep sound and trace it all back to chillstep and future garage.
    Feel free to leave a comment and tell which genre you’d like us to break down deeper. There is a lot more we want to cover and if this video gets enough likes and comments, a new one will come out sooner. If you want some music to help you work, study, or to be inspired, check out our special featured playlists.

    chillstep is more floaty and even uplifting, most future garage is alot deeper and sadder although you could always find up/down feel in both if searched.

    It's blows my mind that the pioneer himself (Burial), doesn't even refer to himself as a future garage artist.

    Between 2 step and dubstep there was a early conception from artists like El B, Youngstar and Artwork.
    2 step garage from the late 90s early 00s was very M.C orientated which led to the birth of the grime scene when garage faded away.
    The beauty of the garage scene in the 2 step era (which I still mix) was it's rawness in production akin to jungle, where quite a few people had access to a PC and a dodgy copy of early FL studio, or Music 2000 on the PS1 which (if to be believed) musical mob made pulse x on.

    This was an informative and very well sourced video! Might I suggest a video on the more recent dubstep developments that have really came into their own since late 2010s such as melodic riddim, briddim, future riddim, colour bass, tearout, and freeform bass (aka weird bass, alien bass, space bass). So many of these are really going into their own directions enough to not even be labeled as a subgenre of dubstep, but more of their own unique things. All indebted to brostep and riddim of the late 2000s/early 2010s so that could be a way to start the conversation.

    thanks a lot for this, ive always been wondering how dubstep became brostep and how it connected back to house. this definitely cleared things up for me!

    Garage always felt "busier" to me than house, especially where the percussion is concerned.

  • @Optinon
    @Optinon Před rokem +4

    This was great, had to subscribe after seeing this, but just had to point out that future garage has been around since at least 2005. Chillstep was heavily inspired by future garage. Also I felt that there was a bias against modern dubstep since you only mentioned dubstep up to 2014 when it died in mainstream popularity. Either that or you guys are only listening to og dubstep. Since about 2016-18 dubstep (deep, heavy and everything in between) has had a massive resurgence, and is a lot more respected than it was from 2010-2015 when it was just seen as a trend to the mainstream audience. I hope you guys can check out some modern dubstep because there's a lot of extremely creative artists and multiple newer sub-genres out there now

      It didn’t, house music did. Chicago house and Detroit house. Uk 2 step Garage came out of house music in the UK.

    Future garage posses an element of darkness u won’t get from Chillstep & often it’s a lot more emotional (imo) as opposed to Chillstep really only delivers a blissful uplifting feeling
