    Bad luck on Wild Thing getting drawn against Razer. Razer really is a horrible robot (in terms of the way it inflicts damage - slowly but remorselessly. Not spectacular to watch like a spinner or a flipper).
    Firestorm vs 13 Black - oops, Firestorm had the upper hand but almost stranded themselves. Both bots got a helping push from the Refbot, which was fair enough. Nice to hear that Firestorm and 13 Black had a gentlemens agreement not to further damage each other once one was out of action.
    S3 vs Dantomkia - another very good flipper, with a shape that looks designed to feed another bot onto the flipper, a bit like an evolved Thermidor. Well Dantomkia got stuck under the angle grinders then broke down. Didn't see that coming. Apparently it lost its safety link - an annoying way to go out.
    Was nice to see Pussycat and Dantomkia helping put Wild Thing back together again. Plus batteries from Panic Attack, a motor fixed by George Francis of Chaos, a wheel from Tornado - nice!
    The commentator still thinks it's called 'Dan-toe-McKaya' - anyway, my money's on it (if the link doesn't fall out). And so it proved, Dtk flipping both Wild Thing and 13 Black, even before Wild Thing drove over the pit just as it opened... and it seemed to me that the pit started to open *before* the warning siren went off. 13 Black proves it can spin mightily when inverted. Dantomkia inadvertently rights 13 Black then gets itself stuck under the grinders *again* - everything's happening in this round! Dantomkia won by judges decision - not a difficult one.
    First semifinal - the two lucky bots are Firestorm and S3 (lucky because they didn't get drawn against Razer). And for once, things went as expected, Firestorm didn't have much trouble in gently tipping S3 over the side wall.
    Which left Dantomkia to face Razer. Bad luck for Dantomkia, just the shape Razer likes to eat. All credit to Dantomkia for still moving at full speed after being pierced several times by Razer, but the decision was predictable.

    S3 was such a good robot, but I feel like for whatever reason, it couldn't drive good enough to really show its potential. Don't know if the guy was just a bad driver, or if it was hard to control from the radio frequency or the drive motors, or what, but it's a bit disappointing. It wrecked a lot of robots, was quite ahead of its time.

    • @Lemonmanlemonman
      @Lemonmanlemonman Před 9 měsíci

      I think the reason it couldn't live up to it's potential was a few things:
      1. Poor manouverability
      2. High ground clearance
      3. Tends to get stuck on it's side

    • @BambiTrout
      @BambiTrout Před 3 lety +7

      Also, both Firestorm AND 13 Black were stuck on the wall, and refbot got BOTH robots down. The problem was that 13 Black was still the wrong way up and immediately got flipped back on the side by Firestorm. That's not unfair treatment.

    13 Black and Wild Thing 2 were two machines didn't clearly didn't belong in the semi final of the Sixth Wars. 13 Black is a machine I always thought was pretty overrated and Wild Things previous incarnations were easily better than this machine.

      13 black is a good machine but the problem is no way to selfright
      But wild thing series 6 they should have stick with series 5 design al tho they still would have lost agiabst 259 if it dindt break down either way

    • @BambiTrout
      @BambiTrout Před 3 lety +6

      I get why Wild Thing changed, but they changed it in the wrong way. They got rid of the lifting arm/srimech and the big disc so that they had more weight to put into armour because they were scared of the spinners. It had pretty much all of the same internals - just a new shell and smaller vertical disc.
      The problem was that Wild Thing's strength was in its pushing power and maneuverability, with the disk and the lifting arm as useful bonus weapons. The new shape was far less suited to pushing other robots around, and the loss of the lifting arm meant that they no longer had the ability to control or grip robots like they used to. Plus a vertical spinning disc has a much narrower attack radius than a horizontal one - so it's often harder to do damage, particularly if your robot has a huge ground clearance and tends to just climb over the opposition, rather than dig in.
      Basically, the reasoning behind the change was good, but the actual execution just removed almost all of Wild Thing's strengths.

    • @alicannonfodderfun8596
      @alicannonfodderfun8596 Před 3 lety +7

      Not really. Most of the robots back in the day had a personality. If anything Razer was a bit try-hardy. They kept eying up their opponents to find the weak spots.

    • @therebel4332
      @therebel4332 Před rokem

      @@alicannonfodderfun8596 its what made it so good. The worst thing to happen to Robot Wars was the spinner disk designs. Hypno Disc had a unique design and had personality so ut was good to watch. But what came after they all went down the supernova route and just stuck a stupidly desructive fly wheel on it ffs. Back in series 3 to 7 there was a variety and you had a pick of what to like depending in personal preference. Flippers, axes, spikes, spinning discs etc but all with a different design take and all the makers had a personality and a like-ability or a dislike-ability depending on your own attitudes. They brought the show back in the 10s and it was boring and predictable with none of the robeteers relatable at all. The robots all the same design with the same weapon. Also back in series 6 you had 13 black types who just enjoyed being there and competing,, the granny team were hilarious,, the guys from Leicestershire who built there robot from old tech and just enjoyed entertaining. It seems we as a society have lost our way in this regard,, people are so concerned with being the best without realising the fun of just competing.
