Does the mic-cord somehow "replug" into the back of the amp or something? Is the Amp essentially reproducing a "Mic'd sound" from the mic being placed in front of it, or is the sound coming from another source rather than a reloop?
I hope you understand my question, because I don't understand how miking works, as dumb as it'll make me sound..

    • @clunt2548

@@Strato13 All good man, we all start somewhere. The path goes computer-> interface -> mic cable ->microphone. You then place the microphone in front of the amplifiers speaker in the position that sounds best, I like to aim halfway between the speakers cone and cap, then place the microphone about 1 to 1 & 1/2 inch away. So lets say you move the microphones aim from that spot over to just the speaker cone, it changes the sound. Its just putting the mic in front of the amp in different spots to change sounds, you can even record the amp twice and mix the sounds together.

The weight of the headstock significantly effects sustain, so if your tuners are really really heavy you can get like 200% more sustain. There's actually a 5/5 star praised product that clamps onto the headstock to add weight. Con? Really bad neck dive so you need to use a strap with really grippy shoulder pad. It's absurd how clamping a weight to the neck improves sustain until you learn the physics.

I made some IRs and I realised mic placement actually was kind of easy. The problem was EQing the amp to sound good through a cab/speaker/mic combination. Most of us EQ the amp paying attention to the room sound where we stand listening, while we should pay attention to the sound through the mic. IRs didn't have the handicap of being tied to any amp EQ. Try making your own, especially at different distances, I found it really insightful and fun!
