The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian is a 2008 epic fantasy film based on Prince Caspian, the second published novel in C. S. Lewis's fantasy series, The Chronicles of Narnia. It is the second in The Chronicles of Narnia film series from Walt Disney Pictures and Walden Media, following The Chronicles of Narnia: The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe (2005). The four Pevensie children return to Narnia to aid Prince Caspian (Ben Barnes) in his struggle for the throne against his corrupt uncle, King Miraz (Sergio Castellitto).

I miss how in the books Caspian was a lot younger and yet also a lot more mature. He was like 12-14 similar to the Pevensie's age in the first book. He had a lot less pride and jealousy and was almost immediate friends with the Pevensies. And the whole Caspian/Susan thing didn't exist because they were basically still children
Something that's different, but I understand was needed for the movies was the change in timeline. Caspian had basically fought half of a whole war and they were out maneuvered and going to loose and then they blew Susan's horn as a last ditch effort for some help.
Basically the movie adds a whole lot of angst and looses a lot of plot and politics and strategy.
All that said this is still my favorite MOVIE of the series. It might be accurate but I think it's a really solid film all around

I always wish they lingered a bit on the tomb scene just because it is such a heart wrenching thought. They disappeared without a trace. All their friends and subjects thought they had died and created this in their memory.

I don’t think it was their tomb, it was the treasure room. I’m pretty sure that’s what the book said. That’s how they knew it was there.
Basically it was a hidden room that still had been sealed and never found.
I actually have one of the coins from the set in the treasure room, some of the movie props were sold. They’re pretty cool, the props in the movie were actually done very well, lots of detail.
It’s been a long time since I read the book, but I remember Trumpkin, the dwarf, after he sees the treasure room he gets a set of armor made for dwarves from there and he says something like, “It would never do to show Nickabrick (the black haired dwarf who in the movie ends up almost killing Lucy) this, never.” Because Nickabrick, although he’s his friend he knows that he’s greedy.

Both Lewis and Tolkien had a shared frustration with Shakespeare’s Macbeth, as there’s a passage that says “Macbeth shall never vanquished be, until Great Birnam wood to high Dunsinane hill Shall come against him” which hints that the trees will come alive and move - they were both frustrated that the trees didn’t actually come alive in battle but were only used as a disguise for the humans. So in retribution, Lewis had his trees come alive in Narnia and Tolkien created the Ents in LotR!

Aslan didn't help before because the people when they left knew that Aslan wasn't there anymore so they refused to "call" for him (believe that he would come back). After a while they completely lost the faith that Aslan could come back.

Out of the books they didn't make a movie on, the third book is probably the absolute best candidate for a movie adaptation. We see our four main characters not as children, but during the height of Narnia's golden age, as Kings and Queens of a powerful kingdom. And even though the focus does not rest on them in that book, the whole thing really expands the world beyond Narnia, and focuses on the people who live in that world.

@@owenrodriguez5641 as far as I'm aware, the 2nd and 3rd movies didn't have the budget of the first, and were not so profitable. Either way, they're not as bad as some movie adaptations that really make me mad. Certainly the first movie was good anyway. Besides, making any of the other movies besides the 7th (which would be very strange as a movie) wouldn't need the four pevensies in them. And 1 and 3 wouldn't need Eustace either. Plus both 1 and 3 would give great insight into the world of Narnia. 1 would also be a great insight into how the deep magic works, as well as Jadis's evil, evil past. I personally think the 3rd book could be a great adaptation candidate. We get to see so much more of the world, and it's kind of it's own story in the scheme of things. I mean, just think of Shasta in the pass when he can't see whoever is beside him. That would be an amazing scene to see! And we get see Mr. Tumnus again, not to mention just the various scenes where people are just living in the background. Or the 'Calormene storytelling' that goes on. Not to mention if we see flashbacks during the twists oof the book. It would however, be quite difficult to fit in a movie length, which is fair.

    1. Did you notice that their dwarf ally was played by Peter Dinklage before he became famous as Tyrion Lannister? The makeup made it hard to see but you can tell from his voice and from his eyes.
    2. Something that is explained in the book but not the movie. Rechicheep and the other mice in the story are descendants of the mice that freed Aslan from the ropes when Aslan sacrificed himself on the Stone Table. That's when the mice gained their sentience.
    3. The sad part is they only made the first 3 books into movies while the books were a 7-book series. If you want to know the whole story, you'll have to read the last 4. The last book, "The Last Battle", really explains things. Word of warning though, of all the books it is the most preachy.

In case you never ready the books, the wardrobe is magical because it essentially came from Narnia. The old man they lived with? He first went to Narnia in "The Magician's Nephew" he being the nephew. He awakened the witch, went to Narnia, witch is the reason why there's a lamppost randomly in there (because she stole it from the real world and used it as a sword and then threw it into the ground when she was transported back to Narnia). The nephew took an apple from a Narnian tree and brought it back to earth to heal his mother. He used the core to plant a tree and then he turned the tree into a wardrobe.
In Caspian, he blew the horn which brought them back. They never go to Narnia the same method each time. Even Aslan mentions that in this movie.

My favorite Narnia movie of the 3. It still has the charm from the first yet stakes are higher and things are darker. And the ending was so great. The song makes the scene so teary-eyed

This isn’t the most faithful adaptation, but something I appreciate is the redemption it gives Edmond. That never fully comes across in the books to me, so I’m glad the movie gave it to him.

It comes across jsut fine for me. He is on Lucy's side the whole time while he was so nasty with her in the first part and he had his redemtion there when he broke the witches staff. The fight in the cave with the werwolf the witch and Nickbrik is in there too and he helps negociating the therms for the duel.

In 1988 BBC had a mini series that was the first live action adaption of Narnia. It's essentially 3 seasons. First season was the lion the witch and wardrobe. Season 2 covers both Prince Caspian and the Voyage of the Dawn treader (the 3rd movie) and the 3rd season was the silver chair which was going to be the 4th movie before they cancelled the movie series.
Now netflix has rights for narnia and planning on doing all 7 books as movies. Hope they do them before netflix does what they do best and cancel them halfway in. Hope you guys react to them too. And the BBC mini series too. Be funny to see the difference in the versions after you guys have seen the movie trilogy lol Warwick Davis who was the dwarf that betrays the good guys in prince Caspian (who is also Professor flitwick in Harry potter) plays the mouse reepicheep in the BBC version wearing a mouse costume 🤣 😆

Peter's character arc in this movie is my favorite part. Peter and Miraz's swordfight is the best part for me and I've watched that particular scene many times. The movie was good, I enjoyed it when I saw it in the theatre, I just wished we could spend more time with the Kings and Queens of Narnia, when they actually ruled Narnia, like in the books. Alas we never got that, anyways, Long Live King Peter "The Magnificent"😊😊

  • @Meggimagine

This one was probably the hardest to adapt out of all the Narnia stories, as most of the plot is explained by Peter Dinklage's character when he meets with the Pevensie children after they came back. All in all, I think they did pretty well to tell this story, even if it'll never be as good as the first one

  • @rhilou32
    @rhilou32 Před rokem +20

53:37 - The Hunger Games books are VERY good, but out of all the YA book-to-movie adaptations you've done, they're probably the most faithful films to the original material. The Chronicles of Narnia books are quite short, so the entire series is only 15-16hrs on Audible, and has a full cast of voice actors if I remember rightly, so they're definitely something that you'd be able to listen through much easier than the Harry Potter series!
There's also 7 books, but only 3 were adapted to movies, so you'll get far more from the overarching story by listening to the books.
