They miss-using/understanding what is meant by feared a player in the NBA. I think Gilbert explained it best when he said afraid of style of play but there’s more to it because players talk about how MJ/Kobe would never let their foot off the gas and was always in attack mode! That is a big part of it too.
I mean I get the MJ fear because he played in a very under whelming era of 2 guards. And in that time they were forced to guard him 1v1 and he’s dare defenders to hedge bc if they did he’d get tech free throws.

The promos that man would cut on players combined with the way he would turn them into nightly highlight reels had a direct impact on their checks even more so back then. If you were the guy and it was your team you were supposed to have some sort of answer for 23. Teams had bonuses directly connected to how you played against Mike.
