Buying A Murder House In Colorado - Would You? Would you know?

  • Would you buy a house that had been the scene of a horrible crime? Would you even know if a horrible crime had been committed there? Do sellers have to disclose that information? This video talks about these examples and also covers other information that a seller may or may not have to disclose. Every state is different and Colorado has some specific requirements. If you are looking to buy or sell a home in Colorado, let me know what questions you have. I’d love to help.
Additionally, shortly after I recorded this video, there was an update to the horrible story about the house in Peyton that I mentioned as being the scene of a quadruple murder. It was a triple murder and the killer turned the weapon on himself. I really try to be accurate and wanted to pass along this updated information. I have a link to the news story below.

I played a clip about Gannon Stauch. That house was a rental at the time of his death and it is currently rented to a new tenant.

I grew up in a haunted house in Texas. Because of my experiences in my childhood home, I have always asked/attempted to find out information about certain locations I was interested in.
When I was purchasing a home in Minnesota, I remember asking my very first realtor about the first home I purchased, "Is this home haunted?," and he looked at me like I was crazy. I don't care if people/realtors think my question is bizarre. It's a very real consideration and always has been for me.
Let me say that the walk-through of a house is so important. Gotta feel the vibes. You can feel that icky-vibeness. I have in many homes.
But with that said, when I purchased my forever home in Illinois a few years back, I didn't do the walk-through as I had to be at work that day at that exact time. My hubby did the walk-through before closing and I took his vibey word on whether he thought something was up with the house. Luckily, it's the perfect home with no pesky uninvited guests (or ethereal renters). It's my forever home so...wahoooooo! 😁
    Do I got stories to tell . . .

We had a scary basement when I was 4 or 5, the house felt like it was 100 years old. I never went in there. As a real estate agent I have to go into a lot of creepy looking houses. Every house has a story to tell, glad your forever home has great vibes!

My houses in Dallas, all 3, were haunted. My first home was at age 21 in Las Vegas,. My fiancee in air force rented a mobile home down the road from Nellis AFB. It had blood stains spattered on the ceiling above front door. Like someone opened door and got their head blown off. I was too young and naive to know what it was at the time. But there were footsteps when nobody home but me. A phone ringing on and off all night...a feeling of being watched..

My grandfather past ,away 10 days before Christmas. The first Christmas we had without him, we all woke up around 5am like most kids do (we were 9, 7 and 5 at the time). After we made a mess out of the living room opening up our presents, my parents forced us to go back to sleep. My sister and I shared a room and we were up talking about our presents when we started hearing what sounded like papers being shifted around. We could see part of the living room from the top of the stairs and we couldn’t see who was there. We went and got our brother and he couldn’t tell either. We decided we should go back to bed and ask mom in the morning. Well, when we woke up and went downstairs all the wrapping papers were put away in the trash and our gifts were collectively put into separate piles, we thanked our folks only to be told, they thought we snuck downstairs and did it for them. So, no one could figure out how it happened and mom wondered if it wasn’t her father telling us he was still here?

If I learnt that murder had been committed there, no way would I go through with buying it- undoubtedly I would be buying all the stress of that event and brooding atmosphere! We had ghosts in one of the houses I grew up in-they are real! ❤

A couple years ago when I was working part time as a cashier and still living in the Tacoma area of Washington, I was ringing up a nice lady and after a second of small talk, she starts telling me about how excited she is about a house she and her family just purchased for an extremely low price, I ask her if they have to do renovations or what the reason was they were offered such a low price and she said nothing was wrong in the house! I should have bit my tongue, but true crime Hailey came out and started telling her to look into the history of the house something could have happened there and that’s why the price is so low. Her mouth dropped and she started panicking saying she hadn’t thought about that and now I’ve freaked her out. I felt incredibly bad for busting her good spirits, but I was couldn’t help but think, Lady they are surely not telling you something and you need to figure out what that is.
Or who knows, I could’ve been wrong completely and she really did just so happen to get an amazing deal.

I like that you considered you could have been wrong-so difficult for many of us to do! You would think that people would dig a little deeper when being offered such a bargain but then if you don't believe in spirits you wouldn't even put It into the equation!

Im a handyman so i have done countless repairs and remodels.. One house i was in the basement bathroom finishing up on demo.. The door slamed shut so hard it jammed and i couldnt get it opend. I had to kick my way out through the drywall next to the door that would not open.. I ran out leaving all my tools and laid rubber all the way down the street.. The next day i met the home owners back at the house and needed to get my tools. After I explained what happened the wife said it was her father who just passed away and left them the house and he hated change ... we went downstairs and sure enough the door was wide open with my footprints all over it from the day before. Being a man of my word I finished up the job and took off. Luckily that was the only time I have ever had anything like that happen to me.. I do know that they had an extremely difficult time selling the house. Sorry for the novel..

I for one am not afraid of ghosts. Demons yes I am afraid of. I would buy a haunted house but only if the haunting has nothing to do with demons. Which you wouldn't know until you've actually experienced the haunting for your self

Shanann couldn’t have even got to move in that house on her own , her credit was in the toilet ,Cris had to sigh because he had good credit at that time, but shanann ran everything in the ground and maxed out all the credit cards, and they were loosing the house at the time of their death, they only had I believe it was til the end of August to move out,the same month they were murdered, so it wasn’t really shanann house to start with,

A lady who was about 30ish committed suicide in the house across the street. She was living with her boyfriend at the time. The boyfriend moved in a new girlfriend and did some remodeling. The house sold. I have no idea if the couple that bought the home know about it. I am in Texas.

If the CW murders happened in the 1970s(which would make national news but would mainly only be known locally) a year later a new family would move in only to leave 28 days later because every single supernatural disturbance in folklore all happened to the family😉. No I would never live in a murder house whether I believe in hauntings or not. I gotta say,all of Colorado freaks me out because so many twisted things happen there(I say that coming from Philadelphia as if nothing bad ever happens here🤦🏻‍♂️🤪)

I might buy a murder house. It would really depend what happened and how long ago. How many people had lived there since and if they had any issues. Also, the price would be a factor and if it had a discount. Did it have paranormal activity etc.

Only in certain states. In Colorado there is no obligation to disclose a death or murder in the home. Some states require disclosure if the buyer asks, but even that has a limited time frame. Usually 1-5 years is what I saw.
