  • A explore of the small villages of Lee Moor, Wotter and Shaugh Prior by Drone in this video, showing the former Imerys, ECC, Chine Clay Pit of Lee Moor, and the village that grew up around the clay industry over the many years, and the fall of the village too, when it almost became dubbed a 'Ghost Town' due to the demise of the industry in later years and it's former villagers leaving the village as the local employment of the former china clay industry Whitehill Yeo China Clay Works, Lee Moor China Clay Works and Shaugh Lake China Clay Works.fizzled away.
Hemerdon Tungsten Mine has in recent years reopened a few times and also closed a couple of times after being mothballed many years ago, but recently in the past few years it has not only remained open , but has expanded it's operations in the area which has probably helped keep the newer people in the surrounding villages of the Lee Moor area.
It has now become a good choice for new home buyers that don't wish to live in the busy suburbs of Plymouth and its bustling housing estates.
Lee Moor instead is a small community on the outskirts of Dartmoor National Park near the small village of Wotter that boasts a 4 Star luxurious accommodation and restaurant ' The Moorland Hotel' with the magic of Dartmoor is right on the doorstep, situated in an unrivaled location with Dartmoor National Park on one side and uninterrupted views towards Plymouth, the Sound and the sea on the other. It is the ideal centre for touring this beautiful and very interesting part of South Devon. Far enough away from the hustle and bustle, but only 20 minutes from the centre of Plymouth.

Hi Fred. Fascinating video. I've known of the Pits at Lee Moor, but never actually known what the area looked like. Take care.

🌟 Banging footage, this is an excellent presentation. I'm an amateur landscape photographer. Do you know how much access there is to the quarries surrounding Lee Moor? Is there any right of way? Are there any abandoned quarries in the area? Thanks, and well done #datswatsup

Thanks :) Glad you enjoyed it, it’s all privately owned land, there might be a public footpath that goes around or near to it, you’d have to consult a map of the immediate area, as i’m not from that county so not sure.
