- Jamey Johnson performs Brook Benton's "Rainy Night in Georgia" at Farm Aid 2018 at XFINITY Theatre in Hartford, Connecticut, on September 22.
Farm Aid was started by Willie Nelson, Neil Young and John Mellencamp in 1985 to keep family farmers on the land and has worked since then to make sure everyone has access to good food from family farmers. Dave Matthews joined Farm Aid's board of directors in 2001.

My late father was in hospice at home and I used to play his favorite songs as he fell asleep. This was the last song he listened to before he passed. He had grown up in Albany, Georgia. I miss you daddy. Rest easy.
Sorry for your loss. God bless you and yours
Thank you.
Sorry for your loss. I was born in Albany and lived near Camilla.
My grandma was my angel she's gone, he name was Georgia
wow , Condolences
Chills. As much as I love Brooke Benton’s cover and TJW’s arrangement, this one touches my soul.
I had the chance to interview JJ right before he blew up. He was so nice and we ended up chatting about Townes Van Zandt’s songs. He was lovely. Wish him all the best, always.
Hey J P I'm sorry 🙏 for your loss, I'm 72years old and I'm hoping to go the same way your dad did listening 👂 to my favorite song ,or songs
This was my pandemic song. I would stand at the kitchen sink, sing and cry.
John P. Noble, Jr. I am terribly sorry for your loss.
There's certainly no words that I can say to fill your loss.
My thoughts and prayers are with you.
Just listened to this cover for the first time. To say "I enjoyed it" is an understatement. Wow.
So Soulful, so emotional... Deep and Rich! My only wish is that I was there to hear it live!!❤
It wasn't actually Brook Benton's song but he did record it. It was written by Tony Joe White and that's the reason for the dedication in the intro by Jamey Johnson. Barely one month after this version was recorded Tony Joe White passed away on October 24th. ..........."I believe that it's raining all over the world"
well said
Great Song.
Stephen Brown,
Thank you for pointing that out.
Jamey Johnson wrote the song about writing songs, so he knows to give the songwriter credit right up front. It annoys me how few people do that, and how many talk about a song being "by" the artists who perform them, rather than the ones who create them in the first place. Wish I had the talent to do that.
If you liked this, you owe it to yourself to hear Tony Joe White's (who wrote it as a teenager) version !! He closes his eyes and tells you what he was feeling the night he wrote it ! Even his harmonica near the end conveys more emotion than any other version !
i didn't know that one , thanks for the info , all should check that out
You're so so right
Check out EVERY version of Tony Joe White's composition sung by himself......he's a bit of a jazzer.... as he never does it exactly the same....along with "I'm So Lonesome I Could Cry" one of the GREAT "lonesome ballads"..
Check out Lucious Spillers version of this tune...let me know what you think!
Has anyone else noticed how Jamey can make any song he's doing a cover of sound like it's his
He is very soulful and a great rendition.
I don't think those fans know how awesome that just was, Brooks Bennett won a grammy in 1970 for best male vocals, and sounded amazing, other big artist have done the song, but J.J.'s voice is so strong , there's no orchestra , just a man's voice 'and his : guitar
My favorite rendition x's 10 mil, is Conway Twitty's.
Great vocal, love the minimalist guitar too. So soulful.
I freaking love his version of this song.. I could listen to this daily
Listening to this beautiful song durning the Covid-19 Pandemic from Azusa California November 28, 2021❤️❤️❤️❤️😎👍

Great material sung by great interpreter of soul and despair.
Met Jamey ten times now always so cool
Unreal how good this guy is I saw him in 2019 at the West Virginia state fair what a performance
Z brings back memories listening to the Conway Twitty version and Sam Cooke Conway's last recording Rainy Night in Georgia you want to hear something great look it up this is cool too thanks for posting
Man Jamey, you killed it!
Tony would be proud...
Awesome rendition of this song
Check out Conway Twitty and Sam Moore’s version as well, is awesome too! Love JJ
If you’ve had the honor of seeing Jamey live then I’m sure you’ve felt the intense energy he puts off like an Ora, although he hardly moves lol
I can feel the sadness, and hear and feel the rain. Jamey Johnson is awesome!!
Damn this is good. I need a beer.
Beer is required!

I was there. Tony's piece, as sung by beautiful Jamey, stopped us (the audience) in our tracks.
Amy Karibian.....Jealous!
It was other-worldly, Shawn. The video depicts it well. Devastatingly beautiful.
I havent been listening to him that long but love this guy.would love to see him live but with this pandemic who knows when🤔🤔🤔
He’s got such a soulful voice. My late father loved this song.
@@missyfranko1174 I've seen him three times and he's one of the few vocalists who sounds better live than he does on recordings. His voice just wraps around you.
Makes me feel like I was on that boxcar !
Jamey, please put this on an album. I would play this almost nightly
Love this song many versions, no one can sing it wrong that is its strengh
As long as it is a great artist this song never fails to hold up. I have several different favorite versions I can think of off the top of my head:. Hank Jr, Conway & Sam Moore, Joe Diffee (who also sang it with Sam Moore for a Conway tribute), and obviously Brook Benton and the writer Tony Joe White
That was my dad's favorite song i wish he could have herd jamey johnson sing it this song for my dad Scott gilliam love miss you.
You will see him again in heaven.
Simply brilliant. Wonderful cover of a great song. Loved it.

I love your voice , ❤️
Nice voice From Malta
Despite what I hear about Jayme , things like he's difficult to get along with and not very pro police. I still love this man. This song is one off those reasons. I will just pretend that I have never heard any of the bad things about him to ruin my fantasies. Lol. This man does it for me. Ugh!
Vientos mi jamey cantas bien chingón y le pones arto sentimiento como debe ser saludos desde México
