- Caitlin Sparks, Communication & Events Manager for Tri-State Trails, leads this fabulously fun CNU32 bike tour from downtown Cincinnati, along the shores of the Ohio River, over the Purple People Bridge, and then into the cities of Bellevue and Dayton, KY.
These two vibrant cities in Northern Kentucky are known for their pedestrian-friendly main streets and inviting residential neighborhoods. Bellevue adopted the SmartCode in 2011, revitalizing storefronts and safeguarding the city's character with a dedicated focus on fostering local businesses. Adjacent Dayton strategically utilized federal infrastructure funds to introduce new urbanism elements such as curb bump-outs, street narrowing, and reduced speed limits, creating harmony between drivers and pedestrians. The city is set to finalize a 1.5-mile stretch of the river's edge hiking and biking trail, a part of the Riverfront Commons project, with plans to enhance and expand it further atop the levee using federal funds. Dayton is so cool! What a history. The whole ride was interesting and fun. Thanks for taking us along. 😀
Thanks! Yeah, it was such a delightful day of riding. So much potential in these communities. Thanks so much 🙏
I’m very excited that Tristate Trails was featured. I really enjoyed this video. Awesome stuff, 👏
Yay! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks so much for watching. Cheers! John
Wonderful video and tour of the cities.
So happy you enjoyed the ride! 😎
Purple People Eater was a novelty song from 1958.
Dayton, Kentucky is almost 60 miles from Dayton, Ohio. Perfect for a populaire in randonneuring, or out and back for a full brevet route.
Some of the hills look a little stiff, but the area looks like a nice place to ride.
I just like saying the Purple People Bridge as it’s just fun! 😁
I really love the bridge its like a little brother of the Brooklyn bridge.
Great ride and good to see the US making progess with good infra.
And there will de a time that it is so safe that you no longer need that zombie helmet ;p
Fun stuff! 😀
Please someone write a book on red state urbanism! I’ve only lived in blue states that can’t even suggest a bike lane without being called left wing waste of money. Meanwhile the state of Kentucky spends millions of federal dollars to lure away corporations from the northeast.
Great idea! Walkable/bikeable places that are based on solid urbanist/traditional development patterns are economically vibrant and desirable addresses that transcend right versus left politics. It's helpful to keep in mind that haters are gonna hate, and the car-brain illness infects people from all walks of life. Thanks so much for tuning in and for your comment. I really appreciate it. Cheers! John
Ohio also has an absolutely massive bicycle network connecting most of the major cities. Much of it is off-road and is well-traveled, with the intersections of the different "bike highways" in towns like Loveland and Yellow Springs becoming major tourist destinations.
