So basically Larry didn’t be able to use his full power almost his career. Imagine if he was injuries free 🤯. This is why I always rate bird above KD. His mental toughness

Bird is better than Lebron because Bird faced better talent than Lebron including teams like the Lakers who were stacked with Hall of Famers. Lebron accumulated a lot of stats against mediocre talent. Maybe some players he played against were good but others were so-so talent.

Larry is my favourite player all time. Mostly for things like this. The dude was the kind of man's man that you just don't see anymore. That being said his stubborn never quit attitude really let him down. Had he just immediately gone to hospital after his back injury and set aside maybe a year of his career with surgery and rehab he could have had a much better career and a much better quality of life after his career.
True but the following year was the 1986 Celtics team, no? Bird sitting out that year means no banner.
@@riffsthatkill2180 yeah but a healthy Bird could have meant many more banners down the road. Bird wasn't a guy who relied on athleticism to play the game. And he was one of the all time great shooters. Players like that should keep playing at a good level until they're almost forty years old. I know Larrry bowed out at 36 but after that third MVP he was never the same player. He could have been right up there in the goat convo if his back hadn't have hindered the second half of his career.

He was the reason I watched NBA Basketball back then … Rarely ever watch since he retired ….

Bird played through Every injury except the Double ACL tears that's why he's LARRY LEGEND
He had bone spurs on both feet and that's what sidelined him for all but 6 games in one season

Greatest sf played the second half of his career hurt
At the peak of Bird's prime '86-'87 my Milwaukee Bucks almost knocked Bird out of the Playoffs. Bucks took Boston to 7 games that year and into 3 Overtimes! Might be best series of all time! I remember one game Bucks 2 Centers both Fouled out and we finished that game without a C in the game.
I always flip back and forth for Larry Legend as the second best player of all time. Jordan, Magic and Larry either one for second best of all time.
Jordan is lucky, bird would dominate at least 5 more years without his injuries

Top 5 "all around" player of all time... My fave overall player of all time... Easily top 3 playing with pain ...
Don't forget Bird's incredible triple double against Portland in 1992.
2:20 was best shot I've ever seen. I watched that play live when it happened and nobody could believe what he just did. I tried replicating that shot IRL a million times I might have made a couple but he did it live in a game. Bonkers!

Bird is hardly forgotten. Entire CZcams channels are built around his clips as younger people learn about him. He's an ambassador for the game and highly respected.
Larry Legend is not largely forgotten. Players today still study and respect him, including LeBron and Michael. Look up how highly they speak of him.
