  • Our resident "gambler" Lee Hoffman is back to talk cards that we think are underplayed in the format. The AATB discord contributed some cards to the list as well as we dive deep into cards you should be playing.

Deciding what trainers and supporters to run in my decks is the weakest part of my deckbuilding. I'm always trying to see what others are including or not including. Appreciate seeing niche suggestions in this vid.
I love lost vacuum myself as an extra tool/stadium bump, and permanently answering uturn board is a nice plus(definitely not because I have a bunch from standard while I'm still short on field blower for some of my decks😅)

Disclaimer, I'm really new to the game, came over because I played Commander.
One of the things the Command Zone brings up on their podcast is the "STATS" where they break down decks by how many lands/removal/ramp/card draw... I was wondering if there was a similar thing we could do for GLC? The idea of this isn't to build S-Tier decks, but as a general guide to make sure you get to play the game, even if you are a beginner. I have found that using their guide helped me make consistent decks for new players and they never felt like they were out of game, regardless of their chosen Commander. But what would it look like for GLC? Card draw, Energy search, Switches, Support Pokemon, Attackers...? Are there categories of cards that "every" deck wants to have access to?
Like, if I were talking to a new player, I could tell them "Its a good idea to have 6 cards that say draw, 3 cards that search for energy, 2 switches, and 1-2 cards that bring something back from your discard" or something like that. Then they could adjust to taste.
I am enjoying your content, keep it up!

Thanks. We have a deck building episode in the works where we’ll hit on some of these points. Like typical number of Mons, trainers (supporters and items) and then energy.

Battle Compressor + Klara (Tulip or Nessa) on turn one means you have a sudo-Gloria that i have used several times in most of my decks

Some other benefits that weren't mentioned for some of these cards:
Lost Vacuum - a decent number of decks now are built around looping stadiums with Lusamine. Dimension Valley, Metal Lab, etc.
Pokémon communication- really good in Lightning evolution decks that run Sprint Zebstrika to swap a dead evo in hand for a live evo or basic.
Tool Jammer - has the added benefit after koing a tooled up pokemon of stopping the incoming pokemon from pivoting out with Float Stone.

That sounds sweet! Erika’s invitation is a cool card. I need to try playing it in some decks myself.

@@allaboutthatbaisch its still a very terrible format, you pretty much play the same cards in every deck OR you see the same decks often like half the decks i faced were water decks.....really fun to see the same decks every where i go lol

All good my man. Not playing something you don’t like is ok. Having fun is the reason we all play games so I’m glad you realized early that you prefer other things.

I've played commander for about 5 years now, and got very very into it. Been playing glc for about 8 months.
This isn't really a fair comparison - commander being 3+ player game changes deckbuilding by a significant degree. Not to mention, GLC seems to lose variety the more competitive you get, which is consistent across most cards games, including commander. You'll see the same commanders, staples and combos the higher power you get. And that's not even mentioning the difference in age of both formats and WotC printing cards for commander specifically.
Saying GLC is a shitty commander is saying a fish is a shitty whale.
