  • This is the best all season tire test for 2022!
All season / all weather tyres are trying to be one tyre for every situation, but as we know no tyre can excel in every category, meaning tyre manufacturers often take away from one area to be better in another, for example reducing the wet grip to get better snow grip.
So, which all season tyre is best for YOUR own needs? To find out I have taken ten of the most popular all season tyres on the market, and will be testing them in the snow, dry and wet, noise, comfort and rolling resistance!
The tyre size I'm testing is massively popular 225/45 R17, and while there might not be any new names in the test this year, a different size and different testing location means we're likely to get some interesting results! The Michelin Crossclimate 2 stormed to victory last year in 16", will this year be any different?
In this all season tire test we have:
    Bridgestone WeatherControl A005 EVO
    Continental AllSeasonContact
    Falken Euroall season AS210
    Goodyear Vector 4Season Gen-3
    Hankook Kinergy 4S2 H750
    Kleber Quadraxer 2
    Michelin CrossClimate 2
    Pirelli Cinturato AllSeason SF2
    Tomket Allyear 3
    Vredestein Quatrac Pro

Thank you so much for your incredible work. 2 years ago I bought the Goodyear Vector tires. Now, 30.000 km later they're still ok.
The performance is very good and you always can feel when the tire is about to lose grip. I just wanted to know whether there was a new better tire in the meantime. Living in south Germany with some snow I'll take them again.
Thank you so much again. I simply don't have the time to search a good model. Your test has both, a large number of tires and multiple conditions on the same car. Your scoring is transparent and blind tested.

Having gone on the whole journey from CrossClimate through CrossClimate Plus to CrossClimate 2 on three different cars over the last few years I'm still extremely happy with this family of tyres. Before that I always used to have separate sets full winter tyres and now I really don't need that. While heavy snow has been fairly infrequent I often have to tackle work trips as far as northern Scotland at short notice so I am happy being slightly over-provisioned for snow. Wear has been good too.

The best review of tires I’ve ever watched on CZcams. Well done sir. I bought the CrossClimate 2 a few months ago because I saw the tread pattern on someone else’s vehicle and I was blown away honestly. I had never seen a tread pattern quite like it. I live in Canada and winter is real. The fact that the tires won your test in the balanced category and that the tires are better than half the winter tires you’ve tested, validates that I choose pretty solid tires for my 17’ Honda Civic EXT to be on the rims all year long. The OEM Firestone tires were horrible in all weather conditions, including dry pavement. I’ve noticed like you have tested, that the CrossClimate 2’s are the best all season tire/all weather tire that money can buy.

Following a purchase of these based on your excellent reviews, I’ve now had a wet summer and very recently a lot of uk snow. For the benefit of others, thought I’d add a comment on my experience. As it was the uk the snow was initially very wet and whilst like that I found they allowed more spin that a winter tyre but that’s to be expected. In heavy wet snow in lane 2 they quickly got overwhelmed and i had to retreat so whilst far better than summers, I then knew they weren’t a patch on my previous full winters….until the temp went below freezing. In -1 to -8 the snow crisped up and was hard packed or ice below. The tyres then became amazing and I regained confidence with them. So they are amazing but so far only if the temps are low and the snow isn’t wet/slushy. Hope that helps someone!

As a driver that has a history of using winter and summer tyres on performance cars for many years, I actually went for the Michelin crossclimate 2 on my Golf for all season usage. I expected the summer performance on a Golf 1.4 tsi to be more then adequate. However I was completely surprised at how capable they were in the winter. Even in snow/slush and ice. I would say they gave me as much confidence in cold weather driving as my previous Nokian Full winter tyres. I am that impressed with the winter performance, I actually have these on my winter wheel set up for my X4M Comp. Obviously I will not be using them as "all season" on the X4M. But I am more than confident using these on the BMW for the winter. If anything the Nokians were a bit spongy in warmer winter climates, where as I do not get this feeling with the crossclimate 2s. I have been a big advocate for alternating winter and summer tyres for years to get the best of both worlds and not to sacrifice performance by using all season across the seasons. However, now I personally think the Michelin crossclimate 2 is perfect for the UK climate all year around on the "average" family car. However I will still be putting my Michelin PS4s on the X4M in the summer, for as good as the crossclimate 2 are in the winter, I wouldn't recommend them on any "performance" car for summer use. Fantastic review as always 👌👍

Very informative, and interesting. A couple of things I kept in mind during your results and recommendations:
    1) Grip versus rolling resistance, there's no way to have the best of both because they oppose each other. Like so many tyre characteristics, it's a trade-off.
    2) When you mentioned that for some areas snow may be the exception, I think it is also important to consider what other conditions may be rare too. For example for me, after snow, warm and dry conditions are the next rarest, so while I don't need a snow biased tyre, I also don't need a summer biased tyre either. With an average of 200 days of rainfall per year (55%) and 100 days (27%) of overcast or cold weather (so while it's not actually raining, the road surface doesn't really dry out either), warm, dry, summery conditions are almost as rare as snow.
I found the adjustable score weighting feature on your website to be brilliant for accounting for this, and as testament to your "mild" weighted test in this video, the top three tyres you recommended were exactly the same as the top three given in the results on the website, after being adjusted for wet biased conditions.
    Top stuff, keep them coming.

Great video as always! As a data geek I really appreciate the work and effort you put into the experiments and the analysis! Amazing! Watching this and last year's all season tyre test I think there are some differences in how tyres form the same company perform, and this I think has to do with the tyre size and traction pattern. For instance, vredestein quatrac (smaller sizes) and quatrac pro (bigger sizes) have different traction patterns and seem to perform a bit different that expected, when compared to the CC2 which is the same tyre type in both tests. It would be really nice and helpful if you could include a tyre test for smaller sizes as well next year. I know it is double the effort but there is a huge target group for smaller sizes as well! As for a future video, ''Does size matter?" can be a good option as well (Cliche). Thanks again for your informative analysis and keep up the great work!😀

My tyres are all that is between me staying in control of my car and losing it, regardless of speed and the surface conditions. I was a Honda Civic/Conti-man for decades but when I bought my Citroen C3 series2 (for wife's ease of access/egress) I discovered this car to be a trifle "skippy" when cornering on several road surfaces; possibly due to it's relatively light weight and suspension set up. By chance I came across one of your tyre tests three or more years ago and changed over to Goodyear Vector 4. Wow! what a difference they made to the handling and stability control of my C3. It now goes where I want it to and when I want it to. Surface water gets demolished: these tyres just bite into the tarmac, shedding all that aquaplaning hazardous material away from my chosen line of travel. These are epic, dependable and potentially life saving tyres and have a very low rolling resistance too. They are worth the extra money every day and every mile. My life depends on them as does my wifes too & any one else in my proximity. Remember, always anticipate: avoid reaction!

Thank you for your testing and your brilliant formula to calculate the best option for yourself!
In my region it snows maybe 5 days a year. In the Winter it is mostly dry (63%) and often wet (39%) but cold enough in the night that you shouldn't drive with summer tyres.
Your calculations recommended me the cheapest option, Bankook(93.8%), but unfortunately my supplier only had 81Y, so I went for the 2nd best option, which was Michelin (93.5%), and the most expensive one 😅 followed by Bridgestone (92.6%)
But the price should not matter when it comes to your tires, which are (hopefully) the only parts of the vehicle that have contact with the ground.

In the UK a lot of the year is wet and below 8 celsius :) The Uniroyal RainExpert 5 or RainSport 5 tyres seem to be a stand out summer wet tyre that can also handle low temps. Dunno if you can manage comparing all season tyres to the uniroyals in the wet but perhaps an idea for next years test?

When I cross-reference this tire review with the newer Winter tire review video I found when combining both tests results that was done one day after another with the same size tires: In cold temperature the Michelin CrossClimate2 is the fastest in snow handling that has the best grip in snow, best in snow breaking in All-Weather category but mid pack with both group, mid pack on wet handling, wet breaking, straight aquaplaning, dry handling and above average in dry breaking and top three on rolling resistance. Beside the need to break earlier in snow to match the winter tire breaking performance, everything else sense to do just as well as a dedicated winter tire! Nice! Personally, I love all season tyres and wish more of the top manufacturers, and mid range maybe, did them in BIG sizes (20"-22") (Vredestein are really good in this respect!) and in Runflat for BMW owners too! Anyway, the improvement over Summers in snow, cold (below +9°C) and ice, is amazing while still being brilliant in the wet usually, and only the tiniest bit worse in dry, is a fantastic trade off / compromise, in the UK especially.
Any chance you could plan a more specific UK weather test?
Ie. Test Summers vs All Seasons vs Winters, not just in Snow, wet and dry, but specifically in just above zero (dry & wet), just below zero (dry and wet) and on ice instead of just snow or just wet?
I think this could be fascinating to see just how good All Seasons are vs Summers in the UK for 75% of the year, not just the odd day of snow! Fingers crossed you like this suggestion! Many thanks, Jonathan. 😊

I have already written this comment on your website but I will repeat it here, perhaps the comment will be helpful to someone.
I've been using the CrossClimate 2 tyres for about a year and have done over 15,000 kilometres in that time. I live in central Poland, so winters are fairly mild.
The fuel consumption has not changed (I think it has increased slightly). They are quite quiet, a bit noisier than the average summer tyre.
They grip poorly on ice but I don't think any civilian tyres grip well.
In the dry they never squealed, in the wet it is hard to lose grip. In the snow they lose traction quite late, I would compare them to an average winter tyre. But even when they do lose traction, they are predictable at all times. In any case, they perform better in winter conditions than budget winter tyres and incomparably better than a few years old winter tyres.
I have not noticed any significant tyre wear.
My tyre choice was influenced by Tyre Reviews and I am very grateful for it. If you don't live in an area with a very hard climate they would be a very good choice. They have never let me down so far and will perform better than summer tyres during cold spring mornings and better than winter tyres during warm sunny days in winter. I highly recommend this tyres.

I live in Northern B.C. Canada and I use all weather nokian WRG3's and switch over to nokian hakka 8's (studded) once there's ice buildup. It allows me to wait until after the winter rush and then I can take my studs off before the spring rush
I swear by these two tires, they're fantastic

Great video, highly informative. Bought a CC2 last year for our family car and it outperformed the winter tyres on my other car (in the snow).
Would have loved to have seen a winter and summer reference tyre, for their respective categories, just to get an idea of how far these allrounders are off the specialists.
Really looking forward to your winter tyre test, not because I need new winter tyres, but because I really enjoy your analysis of the differences in tyres and really love the way you combine hard data with subjective impressions.
    Cheers

I usually included reference summer and winter tyres, and there's plenty of tests on www.tyrereviews.com with that in. This year I tried something different, I tested 10 sets of winter tyres in the same size at the same time thinking we could get a really big comparison but it didn't quite go as planned. I'll make another video on this soon :)

Thanks again for doing this best 10 All Season/All Weather tires again this year. It is very impressive that the tire with the lowest tread depth (CrossClimate 2), hardest (V-rated) and lightest does the best in snow! I have driven the CrossClimate 2 for eighteen month, 28,000mile/45,000Km from 95F(35C) to 031F(-35C) on dry, wet, slush, icy, heavy freezing rain with 50mile/80Km gusting wind, 2/3ft of unplowed heavy snow/wet snow roads and a 10 hours straight of heavy downpour on highway and windy mountain pothole roads in Canada on a FWD HEV and they are wonderful when driven responsibly. It works so well that I don't even bother putting on the one season 4 months used Micheline X-Ice Xi3. I like them so much, once Micheline released the size for my 19 years young Toyota Sienna 8 seater I replaced the 5 years old (60% tread left) Conti TrueContact & 10 years old Micheline X-Ice Xi2 (consider over the expiry date) with theses tires when they became available. 5 years / 60,000mils (100,000Km) from now I will be looking forward to buy the CrossClimate 3 with all the money I have saved from not have to pay for tire swapping cost on both vehicles (always get free tire rotations when doing the break service😉).

@@tyrereviews I do not run high speed laps on my daily commute with all the red lights and stop signs which makes all the fast accelerations irrelevant in real life commuting; however, stopping, handling and traction is what me and the pedestrians (including babies) needs the most especially during snowy condition. No more wondering if I had change the snow tires too early or too late and what if snow comes back at early spring (which it always do). Just drive! Thanks again for your reviews that helps people like me to make a safer driving world.

I bought a set of Nexen Nblue 4Season in the size of R13. Handles wet road without problems but doesnt like dry road around 30°C. The car becomes very understeery. Snow test hopefuly coming up this winter :D
A little idea to improve the video: I think as you display the graphs it would be sufficient to only load the bars of the recently announced 1-2 tyres. This would reduce information overload as the graph is coming onto the screen. It would give a reference immediately and give more time for us to look at the numbers every time it is up.
Anyways I love your tests! ;)

I have a 2005 Acura RSX Type S (with A-Spec) and am planning to replace it's original tires after 110K+ miles, so thank-you for the test results.
    Growing up, our family had a 64 Monza convertible (110 / 4sp), later on I had a 66 Corsa convertible (140 / 4sp).
My Mom worked at a tire store and was given a free set of Michelin radials, it was funny seeing mechanics shake their heads when my five foot and a bit mom tried to tell them the tires weren't flat. ;-D

Based on your test a couple of years ago i got the hankooks for my car in this exact size. Would rather have grip vs low rolling resistance. They inspire confidence in the wet, are more comfortable than gy asy3 summers they replaced, and feel like a summer tyre in the dry. Great all rounders.

The problem comparing new tyres with old tyres is that people forget what the tyres were like brand new and are more often than not comparing the qualities of worn tyres with the qualities of new tyres.

    • @matthewrichards4745
      @matthewrichards4745 Před rokem

@bremCZ that is a good point you raise. But I do think there are inbuilt characteristics of tyres that aren't age dependent in that a 4season tyre vs a summer "sportier" tyre like in my case hankooks kinergy 4s vs gy asy3/5 will always be different in terms of comfort vs outright performance. For me having swapped between winters and summer tyres with my last car I felt the compromise in opting for all season vs swapping and storing the spare set of tyres twice a year was worth it. As I said in my review, imo the hankooks feel like summer tyres most of the year and for how I drive (with my kids and wife mostly) the extra autumn/winter/early spring cold and rain performance and the confidence they give me in all conditions made it right for me.

    • @bremCZ
      @bremCZ Před rokem +1

@@matthewrichards4745 While it seems like it would be right, it isn't. There are plenty of all season tyres that are greater in every aspect to many worn summer tyres. I switched my worn summer tyres out for complete winter in late spring when the temps were still well above freezing and they were still quieter, smoother, and had better wet and dry traction even though they were half worn winter themselves.
Brand new, those summer tyres were been better in every aspect.

Another great review, I've been waiting for this one. Although the CC2 hasn't physically changed since last year (has it?), the 2022 review makes it sound not quite as good as the 2021 review of it (maybe that's just my perception). Anyway I have 4x CC2's being fitted to my car this Thursday and I'm confident i'll be happy with them going by the many, many reviews and time I've spent researching them over the past few weeks. I've probably put way too much thought into this, and I'd be happy with any of the top 5 tyres in reality. Cheers Jonathon.

    Great video.
There is one important area which wasn't tested: wear. Based on other 3rd party testing as far as I can tell Hankooks all season tires are known for average wear at best, whereas the Crossclimates are usually great in this area. This is not only important because the tires can last longer, but also because performance usually drops with wear, especially in snow and wet. It would be nice to see a matchup between Hankook Kinergy 4s2 and the CC2 with, lets say, a 30.000 km of wear. I am almost certain the CC2 would have an advantage.

Michelin typically shows longer treadlife, but the benefit is often significantly hampered by price.

    • @hristom

This 30000 km wear comparison would be great to see. In my country the Michelin CC2 is 30% more expensive than Kinergy 4s2, so the rubber life and the tread life would need to be 30% better to make sense getting the CC2.

I took this guys advice. He was spot on with the CrossClimate 2 last year. The CC2 offer great confidence on the road, even when conditions are bad. They’re as good as many dedicated winter tyres and unless you’re driving on snow all the time, the CC2 are great all around tyre.

In the heat of a few weeks ago here in the UK when I fitted them they still performed really well. As usual an excellent, informative and thorough test, I’ve noticed that the Michelin Crossclimate has dropped in the official wet grip ratings as it’s evolved (from a solid ‘B’ across the range to ‘C’ in many popular sizes, seems to confirm your findings that Michelin have shifted the target market.
It seems to have increased in price more than its competition, a result of its popularity no doubt?
All this meant that as I’m a UK Southerner I went for Goodyear Gen 4s this time around as wet grip and particularly wet braking in our “winter” is my priority. It didn’t hurt that I saved over £100 on a set. The Goodyears are priced really well at the mo’!
Anyway, keep up the good work nipper, informative and entertaining as ever! 👍🏼

I have the Bridgestones on and for me I think they were the best choice for UK Scotland wet handling and partial snow use for the odd flirt of snow we get in the central belt. If I was further north I would be looking at the cross climates. I had normal summer continentals on before that and they were ok but didn't last, and before that I had kumos on which were good in the dry but stepped out in sub 10 Deg and wet.
