the REALITY of the student life at university (University of Manchester)

  • It's been almost two months since I moved to the U.K and it has been a crazy experience. I gathered some of the videos I filmed randomly in the past weeks and decided to compile them to show how much you can do in 5 weeks. I thought it was important to reflect on how hard and overwhelming university can be for some people- like it has been for me. At some point, I was really down and I got through it. I ended up doing incredible things after, so keep your head up because the only way out is through.
    Clarification: point number 7 has two parts, mental and physical. They complement each other. That's why I didn't separate it.

    • @Celinassousa
      @Celinassousa  Pƙed 4 lety +11

      Hey! I hope you love Manchester. You have some halls in the city centre which are excellent. Denmark road is really lovely but the social life is not that great. In general in the city centre people are more focused on studies. I would say the perfect place is Victoria Park, Hulme Hall, St. Anselm and Dalton Ellis are very nice. Specially, hulme hall. Then in fallowfield everything is crazy. Super sociable, except for Ashburne (which is also nice). The best hall in fallowfield is the new one, which actually looks like a hotel. It's Unsworth. After that one, the best ones are Woolton hall, Richmond park and ashburne hall

    • @annakh6414
      @annakh6414 Pƙed 4 lety +4

      @@Celinassousa Is Victoria Park generally nice or are there any that you wouldn't recommend at all? Cause the ones you mentioned are all catered but what about the self-catered ones? Thanks for this answer though, as an international student it's so difficult to get a hold on which ones are recommendable if you can't go over to check them out :)

    • @Celinassousa
      @Celinassousa  Pƙed 4 lety +1

      Anna KH I understand! Burkhardt is good, I know people there and because they share facilities with Hulme Hall it can be social as well. I don't know anyone staying in Liberty Point but it looks really good. However, I don't know how social it is. I don't know Canterbury but some friends of mine checked it out because they were thinking about moving there and they didn't like it. Some people don't like the texture of the walls because they kind of look like ”prison walls” (but some people don't mind them at all!)

      @@Celinassousa Okay, one more question (sorry to bother you but I literally don't know anyone from Manchester, I hope you don't mind): Do you know anything about the less expensive ones on City Campus like Whitworth Park or Wright Robinson? Or would you generally recommend taking a cheaper one or better to invest but have no issues? Cause I don't have that much money but people keep complaining about the cheaper ones (f.e. that Burkhardt has issues with mice and such). Thanks a lot again!

      I would say it’s definitely between Bristol or Manchester! Think about what matters the most to you. Is it the teachers? The campus? The extra curricular opportunities?

      @@user-mv6cl5yn4v I understand your point about having a varied network. I'd recommend signing up with societies of interest and actively reaching out to others who aren't from your country.
      Like all things, we have to be intentional.
      If your programme incorporates group projects in its assessment style, that's an opportunity to have a varied team. Currently, my programme (PGT) is made up of about 92% Chinese students. 🙂
      Good luck!

      @@ifeomanwulu741 Thank you for your reply. That’s helpful. Is PGT means Postgraduate Teachers? (Sorry, I’m not quite familiar with British educational system.) But I’m going to be an undergraduate student next year, not a postgraduate student. Do you know anything about undergraduate students in the University of Manchester? I’m applying to become an undergraduate student majors in Computer Science in the University of Manchester now. I’d be rather grateful if you can tell me something about it. Thank you so much!

    I need advice on my personal statement how do I make it pop

    • @Celinassousa
      @Celinassousa  Pƙed 4 lety +1

      I would say make sure that you show how much potential you have. Connect everything you have done and your skills to your degree. Show them much your subject excites you. That’s what they want to know: 1) you love your degree 2) you are the right person for your degree. I would avoid clichĂ©s but there is nothing wrong with putting a little flair. Start your personal statement with a very catchy phrase. Then make your personal statement well structured and end with a conclusion!
