NO, the FBI was hoping the phone company would pull their asses out of the fire after they blew it, as I knew they would. At the very beginning I thought the family SHOULD NOT bring in the egos of law enforcement, UNTIL after they have their son/brother back. ONLY then do you worry about catching the kidnappers.

They couldn't find a judge because it was Friday night? The *FBI* in the *massive city of Chicago* couldn't get _one_ judge to get off their ass at 11PM which isn't even that late to sign some documents? I believe that's an absolute lie, but if it's true, why? FBI agents, police, doctors, nurses, etc. all have to get up in the middle of the night, why do judges get a cozy night of sleep when a kid has been kidnapped and shot? I think most judges would actually be very upset knowing they could have saved someone and weren't given the opportunity.

I always remembered this episode as being one of the saddest episodes and it just went to show how monstrous and ruthless these drug cartels are. Anyway on with the updates:
Jesus Ruiz, Miguel Torres, and Salome Varela are still in federal prisons serving their life sentences. I assume Jose de la Paz Sanchez is still in prison as well but I cannot find him as there are over 100 guys named Jose Sanchez that have been in federal prison.
Blanca Irene Carreno Duarte served 3 years and was released in Jan. 2000.
Juanita Gonzalez as far as I know has never been apprehended. She is most likely either dead or hiding in Mexico for the rest of her life.
Luis Alberto Carreno as far as I know has also never been apprehended HOWEVER he MAY have been shot and killed in Durango, Mexico back in 2019 during an unrelated dispute. The name and age are the same but it has not been officially confirmed.

I grew up in the States but I believe major cities in Greece are more dangerous. First reason is no death penalty and the law is lax. Second a lot of criminals are sons of bitches who believe they are so smart they will not get caught. Criminals are backhanded and will study their victims for years before attacking. In my dictionary that is a professional criminal, and so you have many low-life professional criminals in Greece. Not a good country..

what a stupid decision from the fbi in the parkinglot - and a bad timing too (gangsters were to far away, not surrounded by agents)... they risk the life of a wounded victim / to find the victim for a powergame (fbi: "now we are back in controll of the situation"). One of the worst cases I have ever seen

I feel like this is the same for when our bodies are hurt… I think we hold on to that pain so long once we get to the hospital it’s when all he’ll break loose …. Cuz I see so many cases when people will hold out for a long time then die when they get to the hospital.

FBI totally botched this job. Totally screwed up wasted too much time, knowing the kid was already shot and deteriorating condition; got the kidnappers to change the transaction location and still failed to secure all exits; failed to trace the kidnappers calls. Epilogue: Should have moved to tell the kidnappers the money was ready immediately and pressed to complete the transaction in the first phone call. They could have simply secretly followed the suspects after the pickup. The Fed seizes enough valuables to have enough money to save a life in these situations, which can always be recovered anyway assuming they are actually effective at their purpose (law enforcement).

There are crimes that deserves the death sentence. Kidnapping innocent people for ransom is one of them ( regardless of how young or old their victims are ). These cold hearted gruesome Murderers, beat, torture and kill their victims without mercy. Not to talk about the pain the victims family go through for days, months, sometimes even years and they can never heal.
