  • 6-08-2010. This is up elsewhere, but I wanted to personally tribute Derek Fisher as I did Pau Gasol not too long ago. Fish was as clutch as Kobe was and as clutch as Bob Horry. That is not a controversial statement considering Fish's very long track record of hitting clutch shots and game winners. I hope no one has issue w/ that. I loved his teary post game comments, too, which I included. This was one of Derek's finest moments as a Laker.

Amazing career for a 20-level pick from Univ of Arkansas-Little Rock. He was a midmajor college kid who came to the Lakers without even having a jumpshot. He would just barrel into players for his first few months. Like Ariza, he learned how to shoot while in LA. Fisher, Kobe, Pau, Artest, Odom, Bynum and the subs all played a huge role in winning this game, which is why it is one of my favorite "modern" games.
    --
Therefore, I don't care that it is up there on other channels and a common title. I still love this game. This saved the Lakers from elimination, obviously. All 4 wins did, but winning at least the one at BOS almost ensured a title. Wasn't as easy as it was in 87 when they only won the Baby Hook game by 1 point and then boinked the Celts on the heads w/ a garbage can lid in Gm 6.

Derek Fisher deserves to have his jersey in the rafters at Staples.

Kobe never won without Fisher, not saying Fish was the reason or great on his own, but those two just went together. Unsung hero.

I've been watching the Lakers since 1999; Fisher has always been one of my favorite players.

I know people can't get over recency bias, and maybe 2010 isn't long enough ago to value it along the greatest all time plays, but in my opin, this is one of the GREATEST plays in Laker Finals history, that layup by Fish. All time, I don't care how recent it still technically is. Real respects real.

agree to your description. remember watching this game live and seeing DFish cooking the four Cs made me so happy for him. Guy saved crucial games in those two finals. Orl and Bos. big up to Derek "the o4" Fisher!

I remember intentionally not watching this game live. After losing game 2 i was so pissed and very sure we were going to lose this game as well so i did not get up for it just to avoid unncessary pain :)

Welp good thing yall got this one. Built a cushion early and kept it in the fourth. Cuz Boston used to barely get caught slippin at home back in those days. Especially in the post season

That Fish Layup would have been considered murder Flagrant 187 in todays NBA.

still amazes me how fish was able to take the ball all the way down the court and sink that layup at 43:40 over a sea of arms and knowing that he was going to get absolutely hammered and hit the floor hard
that play is right up there for me with the .4 shot and those two 3s he hit in game 4 in 09 to take the lead

I remember that play. I watched this game at Big Wangs in LA near the Staples Center. When Fisher made that shot, literally the entire place cheered the loudest I kinda felt a lil earthquake from just us.

Facts. That entire 4th quarter...the degree of difficulty of those shots...D-Fish absolutely deserves to be up in the rafters with the legends. They don't have five chips from 2000-2010 without him. Period.

This one had to be sweet payback from Game 6 in 2008 where the Lakers got destroyed by 39 and they had to see that celebration in Boston on the court.

PS: Anyone who has read me over at LG knows that in addition to supporting D-Fish's heroics, I am STILL a huge RAGE? -ON Rondo fan. Loved the feisty lil dude. Boo bopped Chris Paul so hard that his cousin Cliff Paul felt it. (Cliff is a fictional character, Davo and Angelo and Adam R - he is Chris Paul dressed nerdier than normal while playing his cousin Cliff in State Farm Insurance ads. They are insipid).

Rondo is a big game, big moment shooter. Seemed like he'll hit that big shot or make a big steal. He might shoot 20% threes for career but feels like 75% to me.

Do you have Blazers/Lakers playoff game 1 from 1997 (Shaq’s first Laker playoff game)?

  • @chrisuncleahmad
    @chrisuncleahmad Před 2 lety +2

0.4 vs. the Spurs will always be D-Fish's standout Laker moment.
But..... for #2, would you go with his and-1 late in this game at Boston when it was 84-80 or the clutch three pointers against the Magic in game 4 the prior year?

@@DavoBirmingham2 I dunno. My mind is a little woosey. I drank a couple slugs of Kaluha straight and it was hard not holding back the puke. Eeech. That shit is fuckin gruesome. I'd rather drink Jaegermeister and that tastes exactly like green NyQuil (orig green flavor). How the F do people drank that shit straight on the rocks? I could hardly do it once w/ milk and thus I wasted like 20 bucks on this shit. It's liquified molasses. I done crunk all of my Hennessy nyac and that swill had to do. But beyond that, I had uuuuhh...zee-ro idea our hero was cummin back. . Trev Ariza, Dwight The Good, and Rage ON? This is almost TOO MUCH for me, Davo. And Melo?! Cmon!

Davo, check Mark Jax at 32:15 "Hands straight up". Yeah, right, Jax. Sheed did a full on tilted arm Adolf salute w/ the arm that got Pau. If that's straight in Mark's mind, he trippin. That idiot thinks "straight" simply means locked at the elbow when it ACTUALLY means pointing fully and completely vertical and upward, not ALL INTO the mo fo shooter's space!!

Only win in six games at the new Garden in the Finals. Fisher saved Kobe's bacon or else he may have taken TWO L's against those punk Celtics.
