Thank you for sharing this hymn, Martin, which would sound wonderful with you at the organ and the choir singing it. The words are so true as we ask God to lead us and guide us all the way. It brings to mind my favourite hymn "All the way my Saviour leads me". 🙏

Stunning...organist and all. I was wondering if I should use the pipe organ for this hymn at my church; now I know. I always thought it more of a piano song..

Nice to see the choir in Episcopal/Anglican vestments and to see the "altar" is the center of your worship.

The lyrics are different from how I remember.
    It was actually
Lord, let me walk each day with *thee*
Lead me *o lord, lead me*

The New Century Hymnal of the United Church of Christ uses all inclusive language....bring new life to old hymns to the younger generations.

The changes are not necessary. A black woman wrote this song and its language is inclusive. It was written in the early 1950s. Doris Akers intentionally did not use any gendered language for God in the text. I’m not sure why the hymnal editors found it necessary to “correct” her work, which is standard hymn in black churches. The song is such a treasure that the official African American Hymnal for Roman Catholics is named after it. It’s amazing how we never change the “thee” and “thou” for standard hymns by writers like Charles Wesley. The changes are just insensitive.

    Lead Me Guide Me
    Verse 1:
I AM WEAK AND I NEED THY STRENGTH AND POWER
TO HELP ME O-VER MY WEAKEST HOUR
LEAD ME THROUGH THE DARKNESS THY FACE TO SEE
LEAD ME OH LORD LEAD ME
    CHORUS
LEAD ME, GUIDE ME, ALONG THE WAY
FOR IF YOU LEAD ME I CANNOT NOT STRAY
LORD LET ME WALK, EACH DAY WITH THEE
LEAD ME OH LORD LEAD ME
    Chorus
Lead me, guide me along the way,
For if you lead me I cannot stray.
Lord let me walk each day with Thee.
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.
    VERSE 2:
Help me tread in the paths of righteousness.
Be my aid when Satan and sin oppress.
I am putting all my trust in Thee:
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.
    Chorus
Lead me, guide me along the way,
For if you lead me I cannot stray.
Lord let me walk each day with Thee.
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.
I am lost if you take your hand from me,
I am blind without Thy light to see.
Lord just always to me thy servant be,
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.
    Chorus
Lead me, guide me along the way,
For if you lead me I cannot stray.
Lord let me walk each day with Thee.
Lead me, oh Lord lead me.

The beauty of our faith tradition is that we are fully autonomous, and free to do what the Holy Spirit guides us to do. We have no hierarchy to stop us. 😀
