I feel like more people probably care about Onslaught in this game then in Marvel Comics itself, to be honest.
To be fair, Onslaught don't really appear that much in Marvel Comics.

There's something about MvC's soundtrack that none of the other games was ever able to replicate.
I like it better than MvC's 2.
So many of the themes in this game are still the best version of their themes in the Vs. Series - e.g., Strider, Captain America, Spider-Man, Ryu, and Gambit. And Onslaught's second form theme is second only to Galactus in terms of the best final boss theme in the series.

MSHvSF actually has an even better soundtrack than MvC does. Listen to Akuma, Dhalsim and Chun Li's themes from that game.
Agreed, I'm also gonna say the same about xmen vs street fighter. I guess each vs. game has it's own signature sound.
I wish they remastered these games as a collection so that people could experience them in the current generation. Imagine the glow up!

Always loved Onslaught's design. Never knew anything about the guy. When I found out he was the combined consciousness of Xavier and Magneto I was blown away. Heck I even thought Abyss from MVC2 was a Marvel character. As it turned out, like Amingo and Ruby Heart, Abyss was specifically made for that game and supposedly had nothing to do with Marvel.
Edit: Apparently Amingo and Ruby Heart were both concept characters from Capcom: Ruby Heart was originally supposed to be a Darkstalkers character confirmed by Seth Killian and Yoshinori Ono in a PAX interview. Amingo on the other hand was supposed to be a character from a planned but cancelled Capcom game, but people are unsure which game would that be.
Also, Ruby Heart was supposedly looking for the "Armor of Erosion" which turned out to be Abyss's First Form. So Abyss could have also been a potential Darkstalkers character.
Amingo was originally meant for a canceled fourth Darkstalkers, so he's technically a Darkstalkers character. Not sure about Rubyheart and Abyss though
@@SonofTiamat Oh wow, yeah when you think about his design, that makes a lot of sense. He'd be a perfect fit for the Darkstalkers universe. Stange that his MvC wiki bio says "planned but cancelled Capcom game" Maybe it's Darkstalkers, Red Earth or any other old Capcom I.P. that I'm unaware of. Thanks!
When I read the Age of Apocalypse comics, Abyss made an appearance there. So I naively believed for a while that the Abyss of MvC2 was the same one as the Abyss of the comics, regardless of his design.
I want Capcom to resurrect Darkstalkers back. Just rest Street Fighter for a while. Make Darkstalkers 4 and add Ruby and Abyss as playable character. Might as well put Dante or Nero since DMC and Darkstalkers can be made as one universe perfectly. Sadly, with the rumor of Street Fighter 6 is happening, then Darkstalkers will remain "dead"...
Abyss could make an interesting new final boss to a Darkstalkers revival, to be honest.

From a nostalgic standpoint, I do love Onslaught as a final boss (MvC1 my favorite VS game).
Gameplay-wise, I loved having to fight Galactus and his Heralds in UMvC3.
I loved Galactus as a boss, but I still can't get over the fact that while he's falling to his death, he still says "I will now squash you like the bug you are!"
Weird they was no Silver Surfer in game despite his history with Galactus
Weird that aside from Magneto and Thanos, this series never brought back the bosses as playable characters. Apocalypse, Onslaught, Abyss. Obviously just the phase one versions.

Once me (Ryu + Wolverine) and a friend (Hulk + Captain America) got into some fights, after 26 matches, we were even 13 vs 13. We decided to go out for pizza and let it be even. We never played the game ever again.

This game was so insane at the time, i completely forgot about this game being on the ps1, it was so damn good! Edit; I feel like a lot of people sleep on JoJo's Bizarre Adventure on PS1/ Dreamcast as well, which was an insanely good fighting game, with incredibly high production, in the same vein as the Marvel Vs Capcom games.
Well the PS1 versions usually sucked. Like you couldn't switch between characters on the fly and everything had to load (I am not sure but I think even the special that both characters appear on screen had to actually load before happening). The Saturn version with the memory upgrade though... perfection.
They should have brought this style change for Ryu in MVCI because they did not bring ken or akuma in it. Gave you 3 characters in 1. Could have been a win win situation
That was my first MvC game, and to this day, the most competitive me and my friends can get in any fighting game.
Dude 18:13 was one of the hypest things I've seen in years, I didn't even KNOW you could do that!
MvC2 gets most of the love, and to some extent deservedly. It basically brought back most characters that showed up on previous games + added a ton more.
But MvC1 has always been more special to me. The art, the backgrounds, the soundtrack, the roster (which was super creative at the time, especially on the Capcom side), the final boss and even gameplay. This was THE first game where I really got into combos, more than the previous ones.
I had a hard time adapting to the 4 button scheme of MvC2 after years of playing this game.
I agree. MvC2 has amazing gameplay and crazy depth. Were this game feels like a full package with gameplay, art, presentation and music at its peak, Truly one of Capcom's finest masterpieces
I’ve always loved the super for Ryu to be able to change his playstyle (Ken/Akuma) in MvC 1. Wish he kept that mechanic in future Versus games.
He also has one where he turns yellow, does he play like Sean as well?

The reason why some of the music is fucked up in the Dreamcast version of this game is because it's generated in real time by the on-board sound hardware (rather than being pre-recorded Q-Sound tracks from the arcade version). Kind of an odd decision, as the main stage music *is* pre-recorded in the DC port. This also affects the JoJo ports on DC, and it just sounds cheap.
Thank you for the detailed explanation, sir. I honestly did not know that was the case! 😳 I mainly prefer the Dreamcast version because the Duo Team Attack special effects background properly replicates the arcade version, instead of sticking with a boring red.
@@adrianhendricks772 The sound effects are also kind of hollow for some reason. Makes it less impactful whenever a huge hit lands for me.

MvC's presentation is top notch. The art's great, the music's unstoppable, the Onslaught is one heck of a final boss.

Whenever I saw Hulk on Level 7 or 8, I just close the game and restart.
Imagine Onslaught with the same HP as the MVCI final boss.
Everything from the roster to the music makes this easily my favorite game in the whole series!
I remember seeing this and KOF arcade cabinets in almost every laundromat I went to when I was a kid. While I don't see MvC in many laundromats anymore, apparently this Sonic restaurant had a MvC cabinet in it's dine in area for the longest time.

@@adrianhendricks772 YOU GOT WRONG. Your not fighting ALL of them at the SAME time. Your ONLY fighting one of them just like an ABYSS battle or how you fought them in previous games. The only difference is that you have 3 characters now when fighting Cyber Akuma alone.
I was one of the people who bought this collection!! maybe not having played mvc2 before made me more open to buying it but goddamn i still love these two games. the presentation is AMAZING
MVC 1 is one of my favourite fighting game. I hardly played MVC 2 much but I’ve so much nostalgia for MVC 1 on the PS1. I played this game for hours end. Most difficult boss fights ever and imo the most iconic sound track ever in any Marvel vs Capcom fighting game.
Onslaught has one of the best '90s designs. It's just mecha Magneto but that fits for evil Xavier since that's who he'd identify with.
The music of MvC 1 takes me back to those times in the cafe in the now long gone mall downtown. Playing matches against friends and randos while waiting for my food, listening to the background noise of the mall mixing with the music and sounds of this legendary fighting game.
Onslaught is still one of my favorite comic villains. I was hyped when I found out he was a boss in MvC

Yeah I remember me and my cousins played this one on the first PS faithfully with all hidden fighters unlocked
Fun fact in the bathhouse level you can enter the girl's section of it if you knock the opponent into the wall enough times. The girls section resembles e honda's bathhouse from sf2 and sakura and her friend appears in the background in yellow towels watching you fight.

I always enjoyed the Marvel vs Capcom series growing up. The days going to the arcades and playing until I ran out of quarters. Two years ago, I talked to some friends about Marvel vs Capcom 2 when someone told us about a weird dream they had.
Curious, we asked about it. Here's what was said: This was a dream someone had when they were sick with the flu. They dreamt of the characters from Super Smash Bros... fighting in the style of Marvel vs. Capcom 3.
Here's the weird part about the dream: They said they saw Sora (Who we dismissed as impossible because it was two years ago) fighting Banjo, Mega Man, and Pyra with an air combo changing to Bayonetta and then Ryu.
Of course, we dismissed all they said as a weird fever dream they had. Though after everything that happened, I have to worry about how much more might come true. In what timeline would we have to be in for Smash Bros to have that spin off? Hopefully, it won't be Marvel vs. Smash Bros. 😐
90's & some early 2000s are the best X-Men stuff that will last forever i can't wait for MVC2 remaster and hopefully disney don't interfere
In MvC1 & MvC2 I used Morrigan/Captain Commando/Strider Hiryu/Mega Man/Roll/Hayato/Jin in those games.

The ultimate game for me personally would be marvel vs capcom cast using the usf4 engine . I thought of it when I saw that crispy short wolverine combo ending in uppercut he done near the beginning .

I remember the very first time I saw this game, and when the character select music started, INSTA love. And even with 'only' 15 characters, it was never boring! (and GOD Captain Commando theme is so good)
EDIT: but I hated Colossus, it was ONE STATIC PICTURE, the same image on the selection screen, the same image ingame, it was a piece of paperboard xD
MvC1 is the _only_ reason I bought the Marvel Legends Onslaught BAF (Magneto helmet, obvs).

Nothing was more hype to me as a kid when I found the code to he able to use Onslaught he had the 2 forms playable too which was broken and I remember LOVING his little opening theme it's a shame it's only played for a couple seconds

Gouki is the Japanese name for Akuma, you might be playing the JP version of the game
