    Okay Weston, I put in a new wick and charred it and then ever so lightly I cleaned up the wick with the plastic wick cleaner. I still have about three (3) spikes of flame and it will leave carbon on the mantle if I leave it too high but not at 100%. What am I doing wrong to still have the flame spikes below 100%?

    • @WestonSummers
      @WestonSummers  Před 7 lety

      Don't run it at 100 percent. It begins to draw fluid faster as it runs and warms up. This can cause the black spots. If there is a small string on the wick hanging out you can snip it with a pair of scissors. And the carbon spots will come off if you leave it running at about 50%-75% for an hour. They will go away. :) Cheers!

    • @markanderson6716
      @markanderson6716 Před 7 lety +1

      Thanks Weston. I'll check to see if I have a wick thread or three on the wick that would cause the flame spikes. I know from experience to lower the wick to get rid of the carbon build up. Bummer since I thought that a new good wick with a carbon run would give me a 360 degree blue flame. I'll keep on trying. I really like the Aladdin lamp I have but I seem to always need to keep an eye on the flame. It is just a little frustrating for me. Thanks for your input.

    Safe to use indoors in small places like an RV? How does the mantle survive being in a RV with the jolts in the road shaking it about? Had an Aladdin table lamp in my apartment long ago which heated the Living Room with a nice white light really nice on Winter nights. Had to get rid of it when the wife said "nothing doing" to it in our new house.

    Just
    purchased my first Aladdin lamp. Completely ruined the mantle and did some
    damage to the wick. Got a new mantle and got a new wick but the flame is not symmetrical. In some
    spots there is almost no flame and in others quite a large flame. Lamp runs but
    at low power and I get dark spots on the mantle if I turn it up much at all. Your
    help would be appreciated. Thanks

  • @61loneviking
    @61loneviking Před 8 lety +1

    Well, wound up with a big black spot on the mantle. I went slow, gave it ten minutes to warm up and turned it up slowly. I guess I need to change the mantle now? Also, I'm right at 5000 ftElevation, do I need one of the high altitude chimneys?

    • @WestonSummers
      @WestonSummers  Před 8 lety

      +61loneviking First, check your wick to make sure you don't have a long string hanging out. Then fire it up and turn it only halfway or less up. Just leave it burning for a few hours and it will burn the carbon off the mantle from the heat. :) . If you are super high up they do make a globe extension to help pull more air through. It is available on several websites. Hope that helps! Weston

    • @61loneviking
      @61loneviking Před 8 lety

      Yes, there is a long string on top of the mantle, it came that way. Won't the mantle crumble if I try to trim it off?

    Weston, I am in the market for an Alladin, i've heard the model 23 is preferable, my questions if you can help, is should I look for a original 23? or is the new manufacture 23's ok? My other question is which model is the one in your video? Love it, its the same type IM looking for . Thanks so much.

      I really don't know what to tell you on the old lamps. If you can find one for a good price then you should be fine. Parts are available to fix them.

      "Long live America, the US still can find these good things to buy and enjoy, in Brazil unfortunately do not have access to lamps for decades."
      In Brazil everything is good expensive costs because the government building in taxes, in America people have access to good quality items.

      WestonSummers Hello, I know that in America there are many good things and good prices. But I do not know how to buy a Alladin lamp so far. I think the price increase came when the Brazilian customs. And besides, there's the fact that in Brazil the Post Office is a state monopoly, is an almost bankrupt company because of the corruption of their political managers.
      I wonder still: Do you know of any websites where I can get this lamp in the video, for example?

      @@WestonSummers He can order crap online but the import duties in Brazil are absurd, your lamps would probably cost $1,000 USD+ in Brazil unless you opened a factory manufacturing the lamps in Brazil.
