I really enjoy seeing the whole thing, and listing to the thought proses. I am glad you guys don't speed up the footage on the so called "boring parts". I like seeing all of it done in real time. If we the viewers want to skip through a part of the video, we still can. Fierdly just finished building mine yesterday, boy was it a hastle! I advise DOUBLE checking that you're using the right screws and making sure you plug in the cpu power.
just finished mine too XD . i always test the main components before putting it together but its still so tense when you peel the plastic covering off and press the power button
I gotta say, your video is a lifesaver because this is exactly what’s going on on my custom build after having my new thermaltake 850w PSU. The very first thing you mention is the graphics card so I took out the power connection for that, and before you know it, my pc turned on haha.
A fun one that I've learned to recognize is when there is very occasional drive errors. But having the suspicion that because its happened many months before you've replaced a HDD before as well, I made the judgement call to replace the power supply. Voltages were well close to optimal, but I guess it was still giving dirty enough power to cause hiccups when the drive(s) spin up and then write. System was not really showing any other symptoms at all besides the old "high end" drive having errors as well as a new high capacity HDD. Smaller drives were running fine.
Hey guys great video regardless of the comments down below you guys got in detail and I understand why you guys decided to do everything step by step. I just wanted to let you guys I myself had a very similar issue but what helped my issue was resetting the CMOS battery located on the motherboard. So that being said those of you that are experiencing the same issue that I encounter do what I did. Hope this helps.
I am glad to hear you were a member of V.I.C.A in High School. I used to be in V.I.C.A as well in High School. Vocational and Technical education is awesome. Good foundation for H.S. students who likes to be hands on.
I am so glad I watched this video. I am soon going to cobble together a piecemeal system using a 2nd generation i5 and a z77 ASUS motherboard and now if something goes wrong with the build/cobble, I'll know what to look for and how to diagnose the problems, thank you for this video, I'll link it to my Facebook page so anyone who reads it can watch this video too.
good job fellows. always enjoy your videos !! Wish you could comment more in your build videos on the pros and cons of the components you are using as it relates to the process of the build and the performance of the computer 👍.Thanks !
Great video, hoodathunk a hard disk tray would cause a boot issue. Of course I would have just plugged the SSD card straight in bypassing the adapter tray, if that were possible in the build. Again great video shows that anything can cause a pc not to boot.
At 31:21 thanks for the VICA shout-out. VICA is now SkillsUSA and is still going strong. Students are still competing! Good to see a sucessful VICA./ SkillsUSA alumni!
You could just touch a metal part before handling anything inside the case to stop static electricity from damaging any parts, but the wrist strap does the same thing. I have not had that problem before when I was building computers. That is a large CPU and fan and I have not seen one that large before either. That is a good way of diagnosing the problem with the unit and solved the problem quickly.
hi my good friend in a different state just built his first pc the pc starts and the fans run but his monitor show no display any advice pcpartpicker dudes?
Thank you Thank you Thank you. Had PC that wouldn't boot win 10. Followed step by step troubleshoot from you and now it's working. Again thanks so much for your help.
Great little video, but it was convenient that it was a hard drive tray that was causing the issue. You should do a troubleshooting video where the motherboard is the faulty part.
Great channel. You guys helped build my new gaming pc. I have a question. Just finished the build and bought a new dell monitor. Turned the computer on. All of the Corsair rgb fans are running. GPU is working. No red flags with the computer. Here is the issue. The new Dell monitor says it is in power saving mode and will not take me to the bios to setup. Any advice or steps to take from hear would be greatly appreciated.
What would be your next step or part if any that you could remove if it turned out that hard drives didn't cause a change? My problem is kind of the same, but no fans or anything turn or startup. The mother board lights up and thats about all.
What if after turning off the PSU switch for a few seconds and then turning it back on, you get a full boot? Thats the issue I'm running into. My situation is after pressing the PC case power switch and it turns off after a couple of seconds, every time I press the poser button, it does the same thing it done previously. What do you think is going?
On the initial boot following a new build it is customary to give it 30 to 60 seconds before turning it off because of BIOS processes eg: fan speed and fan ID ect...........
Something I do nearly every time where I press the new build on button: Nothing. I ALWAYS have a blind spot for the damn power on/hdd light etc jumpers. One of them is always hidden, wrong spot etc. Kinda helps to let the mobo know you've pressed the damn power button.
Hi! I hope that you still answer some question. When my computer wakeing from sleep, the monitor does not wake (until reboot). What is going on with my pc? I did build it from parts, and i'm not sure, if i did put the front panel cords right.. Everything seems to be ok, but this little irritating problen left.. 😕
its the motherboard requres more paower to turn on and when you add more hardweres it decreases the proccesor minimum capacity to turn on basicly and when you take it out it meets the bios minimum requirement change the powersuply for a 1000 wats you will see all equiped hardwere will work fine
I was going crazy cause nothing in your video worked for me but the fact that not even the fan started to turn on made me realise it probably had to be the psu. I was about to send the psu back when I stumbled upon an information while looking up something for my motherboard, that the power button connection wasn't correctly displayed on the motherboard. I had to put it on pin 4-5 instead of the displayed 6-8....
I wish mine was that easy. All I had was the motherboard & CPU mounted Ram Installed plus the power supply. The system would run but no video on the monitor. Rechecked the CPU install & tested the power supply. Changed the RAM still no video. Since there isn't a small speaker attached I couldn't listen for beeps. So the one thing I remember is this board is supposed to use an 8000 Intel chipset. I had installed an I7 9700 CPU. because Asus said it was compatible. Now they may be wrong I RMA the CPU and ordered a I7 8400 and will see what happens. Hope it will fix the problem.I was not happy with Asus documentation plus pins on the board were very hard to see. Both the board writing and the manual need to be improved.
Mines was working recently then suddenly when i turn it on its show no display but the monitor is working fine when I tried it with my laptop.. But all the RGB and the fan is spinning so whats the problem?
First of all good video guys.Just a brief comment, please remove all rings, watches etc. before working around electronics. I was a E&I tech for 30 years in heavy industry before retiring and bad things can happen if you wear conductive things when troubleshooting. Don't ask me how I know. Take a second and be safe.
Hey PC part picker ive used your guys system builder to build my PC to check prices and power wattage and such. I’ve recently just built a pc and my pc will power on but there’s no signal on the monitor at all it says no signal and I checked that I plugged everything in correctly and I just don’t know why it won’t work I was thinking it’s the ports and none of the ports work I’ve tried hdmi, DisplayPort, and vga and there’s just no signal pls help me
So i dont know if this is the right place to ask. But when i turn on my pc it doesnt always boot properly. Sometimes when i turn it on, it just doesnt boot. It just sits there with all the fans spinning and 2 Debug LEDs glowing. One says CPU and one DRAM. But sometimes they glow and shut off a second later and the pc boots. I have also been experiencing 2 random freezes that dont have anything to do with overheating. I just hear a crackling sound in my headphones and nothing works. The PC still keeps runnning btw. And if i wanna restart it then it has problems with booting but after a few tries it works again. If you have any ideas what it could be please let me know.
Now if only just once I could build a system on partpicker that I didn't choose a seller that was out of stock. Been trying to build a Ryzen system and just can't find the parts I want anywhere I go. Somebody is going ahead of me and grabbing it all. LMAO Seriously though, the partpicker site is fantastic! I use it frequently if I want to see if parts will go together or what conflicts there may be.
I brought parts for a build thru newegg, powers up but spins up n down but not fully booting showing nothing on screen. I have a msi x570s edge motherboard, ryzen 9 5900x, samsung 970 evo plus 2Tb ssd, asus geforce rtx 2060, 2 2TB samsung hdd, corsair rm850, and icueh150i elite cooler. This is my 1st build, any suggestions?
hello i just built a pc 3 days ago and my pc works fine everything is running smoothly but when i connect my monitor it says no signal. do you know what the problem could be?
Hey if u dont connect th CPU fan, can that stop he boot up entirely?? my motherboard has 4 holes for screws but what if they need to be occupied? my pc wont turn on :(
I have the same problem but i cant seem to find out why my ram is fine, my GPU as well and so is my pump. I have a light on my motherboard that glows on CPU but i don't see anything wrong about it. There isn't really anything that i can elaborate on any tips thanks.
Does this apply to even a computer that nothing happens when you turn on power? First time building a computer and I'm experiencing this problem I don't even know where to start...
Hello just received a used Taichi X470 yesterday and assembled a new PC build but the mobo keeps blinking slowly blue color after the PSU is turned on. I have tried everything but in vain. Any ideas?
Just went through a build that I ran into some issues with and wanted to share my experience. So my uncle comes to me asking to build him a PC that will be for his movie/TV room. We go to Micro Center and get all the parts and later that night I put everything together. I've build a few PC's before and have never had an issue with getting them to post on first boot. This was not the case with this build! I brought in an older PC of mine and started the troubleshooting process. I pulled the GPU, nothing. I pulled out the RAM sticks one at a time and tried different slots, still nothing. I checked the Power Supply and it was functional. For the life of me I could not figure it out. For peace of mind I decided to pull off the CPU fan, take out the CPU and check the pins underneath. Low and behold I had 2 pins SLIGHTLY bent on the edge of the CPU that were not making proper contact with the MOBO. I don't know why not a lot of people tell you to check for this but it was a rare case that I thought might help someone in the future!
Yep..i payed for a MSI Z370 GAMING PLUS MB and i had the same problem...I got it off of Ebay New but used as it was returned to store..my thought were someone had crushed the pins..they just didnt look straight to me..but i went ahead with the build..and yep tryed a lot of things checked ,pulled build again and i come to a conclusion it was the cpu pins on the MB..Im returning the MB soon..frustrating tho..btw the Debug tool flashing red told me cpu defective or failure..as well as ram..however Cpu casing pins would be more the case.
I have an issue, I power on my pc and I hear a tink tink tink noise and my leds flicker and my fans flicker and my keyboard and mouse if plugged in light's flicker, everything is plugged it. there is also no display
Mine boots but say can't connect to media and shuts down. It's the second SkyTech computer that's done this to me. I can't figure it out and Did everything you guys just did. So what can it be? I even got a new ssd and data cord and tried a dress install of windowns. Which didn't work with. It won't even go into bios
My computer boots, but doesn't post. I'm running a ryzen 5 1600 and integrated graphics aren't supported, so how would I go about testing if the gpu is the issue?
I upgraded my dell OptiPlex old power supply and it turned on perfectly ...no problems...So I assume nothing is broken. Once I upgraded the psu I turned on the system, the pc wouldn’t turn on properly. Is it because I didnt plug anything properly? Btw the psu does work because it turns on for a split second but then turns off.
Hello! I have a x570 steel legend that came with 2.6 bios and i wanted to put a ryzen 5600x with no luck, i replaced the cpu with a ryzen 1200 and flashed with brand new bios version 3.7 sucsefully! when i tried to boot with the 5600x nothing happed, i was stuck in a boot loop, then swapped again to the 1200 for me to acces the bios again but i could not this time, maybe the new bios isn't compatible with cpu anymore. Is there any solution?
what if you put in a new CPU , you put the fan on, and all the fans and lights turn on, but the monitor is wont pick up a signal, its pluged into the GPU, we took out the CMOS battery and switched ram slots, but when we put in the old CPU it works again
On a new built with new gaming tower and new M.S.I gaming mother board; new 750 watt power supply atx version. New stick of 32 gig ram. When turn on the power supply and hit the power button on main computer case tower. I don't get any power at all? All the connections to power button are correct on the mother board. Yet nothing? 2032 battery is new. Simply have dead tower all new parts? Is the power button on gaming tower cast at fault?
hi, my pc has the same problem of turning back off right away. But the trouble is because of the cpu power connector. Is it because there is many power in my mother board? My mobo is msi b250I mini ITX and the PSU is cosair 650W 80+ bronze
Only the button on my motherboard lights up, nothing else lights up, the cpu fans dont move, fans on case dont move, nothing. Should I just take it somewhere or did I do something wrong cuz its annoying
Fixed my problem new pc it turned on but nothing displayed on the monitor so I took out the CPU checked it real well and I did not put it in very well at first so the CPU was my problem
That's the reason why I looked up this video. I hooked it up to my tv and it still wouldn't work. I also hooked up my monitor to my laptop and it turned on, so I know it's not the monitor. I returned the cpu and got a new one and it still has problems.
I just purchased and built a computer. It was up and running and I decided to change out the cpu fan to liquid cooling. After the switch I'm unable to boot. I get power but the power button do nothing. Just sits there. I updated bios via USB and still nothing. All cables are in correctly. I minimized components. I even switched back to the old fan for the cpu. I thought I might have gotten paste somewhere. There was a minimal bit and I cleaned it the best I could. I'm stumped. Please help! Everything is brand new.
I’m hoping I’ve found my problem. I bought a board for 8th gen intel and when the intel I wanted sold out I was impatient and bought one that was 6th gen. My PC doesn’t even attempt to do anything at the moment. No lights, no camera, no action. 100% dead. If it’s something else, I don’t know. I’m going to meter the PSU and some connections. I don’t know PCs but I know a bit about electronics. I literally built a fender tweed Princeton amp where I had to build the board using point to point wiring so, it’s not a simple “Check your connections” (I did anyhow) But, today I’m going to go over everything one last time with a fresh mind. I just wonder if the wrong gen processor would make it 100% dead... I’d think the PSU fan would at spin.
I had this problem since a month. Thanks man I was hesitating to call the Hardware guy for this. Really appreciate your effort.
I found myself yelling "get on with it" every 20 seconds.
Mike Mcarthy same
Same
I had the same issue. In my case I had forgotten to connect the CPU to the power supply.
I wish i could dislike this video more.
U don't know the half of it 😂
Exact same situation and symptoms (new build, fan turned 2 sec):
After hours and hours with no success the project sat for several months. Took and new swing at it today and found my problem!
Over the months I would occasionally research possible problems. One piece of learning was the answer. It was not something that I forgot, it was something I never knew.
When mounting the CPU to the board, match the triangle shape on the CPU to the triangle shape in the board bracket! When I did the build, I tried to use logic that the top of the board should be in sync with the top of the CPU (the printing). Wrong. Even after learning of the triangles, it is not something you can just visually check. I was actually convinced the problem was a sketchy board.
I write this only because... mine was the same situation and symptoms. Thanks for your video, they all help us newbies!
I really enjoy seeing the whole thing, and listing to the thought proses. I am glad you guys don't speed up the footage on the so called "boring parts". I like seeing all of it done in real time. are you telling me that a HDD is required to boot a new M/B with new memory & cpu? new builds should post to BIOS without any storage. or am i wrong?
Building my first PC tomorrow this video might be a lifesaver
Fierdly just finished building mine yesterday, boy was it a hastle! I advise DOUBLE checking that you're using the right screws and making sure you plug in the cpu power.

Fierdly I don't have 500 bucks to build a PC... yet.
My parts will be in within a couple days, i7 6700k and strix 1070, #PatchIsBack
omg the cost of this computer that crap better boot up
. Bug
I gotta say, your video is a lifesaver because this is exactly what’s going on on my custom build after having my new thermaltake 850w PSU. The very first thing you mention is the graphics card so I took out the power connection for that, and before you know it, my pc turned on haha.

Thank you guys, helped me figure out I knocked my graphics card loose after installing new RAM. Lifesavers!

why did you wear a wristband when the power lead was inserted?, the chassis was earthed so you can discharge static to the chassis

19:00 is a nice start to the end
solution
I have an issue, I power on my pc and I hear a tink tink tink noise and my leds flicker and my fans flicker and my keyboard and mouse if plugged in light's flicker, everything is plugged it. there is also no display
Mine boots but say can't connect to media and shuts down. It's the second SkyTech computer that's done this to me. I can't figure it out and Did everything you guys just did. So what can it be? I even got a new ssd and data cord and tried a dress install of windowns. Which didn't work with. It won't even go into bios
Please help. I spend $2500 and have two pieces of shit.
I was wondering what the clue was at 6:31 in the video, please. "Symptoms in the power supply"
I built a z490m and it’s not booting up. What are the least amount of components I need to boot up computer ?
I've got no signal to monitor the lights and fans work just nothing to the display
@Alex Font same problem, did you manage to fix it Alex ?
hi, my pc has the same problem of turning back off right away.
But the trouble is because of the cpu power connector. Is it because there is many power in my mother board? My mobo is msi b250I mini ITX and the PSU is cosair 650W 80+ bronze
What about the plastic 'tool free' installation?
Only the button on my motherboard lights up, nothing else lights up, the cpu fans dont move, fans on case dont move, nothing. Should I just take it somewhere or did I do something wrong cuz its annoying
Did you fix it ? Having the same problem
Having same problem
Same prob
Same Problem
Same problem
Looks same but hdd unplaged and still same fans thay are turning for a sec and dead . What i should check ?
What do I do if it boots but the monitor won't display anything
Kennedy Ifejika that's my problem as well
Same problem here
Fixed my problem new pc it turned on but nothing displayed on the monitor so I took out the CPU checked it real well and I did not put it in very well at first so the CPU was my problem
That's the reason why I looked up this video. I hooked it up to my tv and it still wouldn't work. I also hooked up my monitor to my laptop and it turned on, so I know it's not the monitor. I returned the cpu and got a new one and it still has problems.
Tyler Mccoy are you plugging it from your graphics card to monitor or motherboard to monitor because motherboards on bird graphics don’t work
Thanks this helped.
I had the same problem in my tech class when I was building a pc out of 8+ year old pc parts. And it was a butt to find out what it was.
god bless you guys
uuh guys are awesomm.... i was able to power on....☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️☺️
This is why you test parts outside the case before building
Its help me a lot!!
Would this method work if no leds or fans turn on.
i have a problem my motherboard fan spins and no display and i try all the ram i have, can anyone help what is the best fix for it. thank for the help
sean paul odal same idk how
sean paul odal...bro how u resolved this issue...cz m having same issue
Did you guys fix cause I have the same problem.?
Same question again , did u all find the solution coz I am having this problem toooo😸😹
What if you took out the GPU and it booted? Would that be a graphics card issue?
Not gay Keilan probably
