BTW, what has surprised me most this year, is how little you have to actually come around the ball (when you throw it correctly) to get it to hook. The ball itself will do a LOT of the work for you. A lot of people like JR remind us to "let the ball do the work", and they aren't wrong! .. as I am getting better with my release, I have more of a problem with getting too much hook than I do not enough. And as my rev rate gets higher and higher, I find how important it is to get your "elbow in" and "hand inside of the ball" .. also, JR didn't note it here, but if you look at the very bottom of his release, I am betting you $100 right now that his index finger is pointed directly down at the floor, allowing him to get maximum rev rate and still properly control the axis rotation. Excellent stuff here .. give a big shout out to JR and Cody for illustrating this .. super important part of the swing/release !!!

I used to have a hard time not doing this. Worked with JR and he gave me a lot of ideas to try to stop doing this. It was a little more work since Im a one hand no thumb bowler but he helped me change my set up to allow me to stay behind the ball more. I now have a lot more consistent revs and more consistent shot making.

Your videos are so much more enjoyable when Cody joins you. You two make a good team.

  • @MM3ScubaSteveUSN

Cody could have asked "what kind of sauce do you want with those wings"? 🤣 Good vid, guys!👍

  • @mxjosh18

I have the opposite problem. Stay behind and never rotate. Just rolls fwd and barely moves. Almost wish this side rotation was still my problem.

  • @Playfulmovement

Great info, thanks. Would love to see a video on how the pros use their release to give a ball more rotation when they need it without chicken winging.

  • @MrMalditor

I really focused on this last week during league and the difference in the rotation was significant and actually saw an increase in "hook" because of how the shape changed. I had been much better about this before but got lazy lately knew something was off based on how my carry had gone to crap. I don't get a chance to go practice these days, but I don't mind sacrificing my league scores a bit to improve my long term game.

  • @props651

Once a week I practice 5 games. 4 games is nothing but these drills and trying to create consistency. Last game I put it all together. I do get silly looks sometimes but these drill definitely help during league night. 👌🏽

  • @Chilllybob

Thank you guys. This was one of the funniest videos I've seen so far . JR you were great. Chicken wing is a problem I'm guilty of it definitely takes time to get rid of.

  • @DtKnize

Thanks JR, due to your video's I finally figured out how to eliminate the, "Dreaded Chicken Wing" My ball reaction is so much better, my adjustments on the lanes are much more minimal. My track flare has raised and my PAP has changed. I'm a 175-180 bowler and lately I've had some pretty good series in league. I got a great deal on a Storm Code Black, put a little 2000 surface on it and it's golden! First night 697 series, 279, 229, 199. 16 strikes in a row! Of course now opponents are calling me a sandbagger.

  • @millsdjr

Teach him Cody, great info guys. Appreciate you guys making it interesting.

  • @squidly2112

I find it interesting that the "chicken wing" problem is the same in golf (something I actually know about). Common problem with these sports. EXCELLENT tips and instruction guys! ..

  • @dathenfairley

What amazed me when i learned how to do this is i DON’T rotate at all. My wrist has a natural rotation on its own and i don’t need to do anything but roll the ball with a cupped wrist. It feels like i am just coming up the back of the ball with no rotation, but when i look at myself on recording, it looks like i rotate the ball about 20-30%

  • @sooner300

Best video so far. Funny, informative, short and sweet. 👍👍

  • @travishanson166

The humor of the script really illustrates the gaps in communication and understanding that occurs between bowlers asking for help and bowlers/coaches offering help.

  • @architectwin9253

will try this out! thank you!

  • @jamesdouglas4792

Love this video.. I feel more bowlers can relate to content in this fun form

  • @ajdylanOffical

"I watch all the amateurs do it"😂

  • @briancloutier2781

Thanks good tip and having fun while teaching!

  • @RetroArcadeDad

As a beginner bowler, I am trying to break myself from doing this exact same thing. Will use this drill next time I am at the lanes. Thank you for these types of videos!!
