You could put a jerry can in the space inside of the microwave holder. Making this your water space.

Thank you for watching. I thought about options to place the water container under the microwave - did not find a suitable container. The mounting points of the microwave dictate the width of the aluminum cage. The space under the water container would’ve been not as usable as the open cage. Cheers!

Are you aware that the microwave could be blocking the side airbag?
See the CZcams video named: Toyota Sienna Hybrid (2021) ALL Crash Tests [Front, Side, Side-Pole]
At 2:28 you can see how the side airbag goes all the way back to the third-row seats. If it hits the microwave just right, it could send it hurtling somewhere dangerous. Odds are it will send it in the opposite direction, which wouldn't hurt anyone, but you never know.
    Thanks for the great videos!

Thank you for watching and your question! I modified our Sienna for driving 2 people only in front seats. When I had microwave in the van (we removed it last year because we did not find very useful for our camping needs) the microwave’s frame was mounted to aluminum framing by 4 8mm bolts. Looking at the video you referred to, it looks like in side crashes only very thin airbags were deployed in the area behind second raw seats, which probably would have not affected the aluminum rigging significantly. It may have bent the vertical elements, but I doubt it would have ripped off the mountings. The microwave is gone now. I will publish an update for the most recent design of our rig soon. Cheers!

Hi Tellvia - That new pullout shelf for the microwave is amazing. I finished most of my build on a 2022 AWD Sienna last Summer and have been out traveling quite a bit since then. I used your idea of the ICECO refrigerator and the pullout shelf and my set up with the 1500 w Jackery is identical to yours. Since mine is built for a single rather than double, I left one of the rear seats installed to use while eating or working on my laptop and just half of the van is a bed. I installed a sink and a 700w microwave. The ICECO 40 does a great job of keeping my frozen dinners almost frozen for the microwave. My rear well section next to the ICECO is where I store the water for the sink. I also had a 3 inch lift installed and all terrain tires and have a cargo carrier in the back. The full sized spare is now on the roof. I've had the van up steep, muddy logging roads and in the snow and it's done very well. THANK YOU for your ideas on how to set up the back with 8020. I think I have 6 bolts from the original seats that I used to secure everything down. I hope to have a van build video up in the next couple of months. I'm not an engineer, so your ideas really helped me get my project off of the ground. :)

I wonder if you would consider to sell the 1.0 foldable version you built last year? I believe the foldable version is brilliant idea.

Great content as always! Watching the two other vids rn!
I was wondering: you've been Sienna camping for 2 years now, so you're the perfect person to respond to this question: which Sienna features are must have for Sienna camping? For example, the 120V 1500W Inverter is an obvious one. What are others features you strongly recommend for Sienna camping? Thanks!

Hi Jose, thank you for watching and your question! In my opinion, I would rate Sienna options in terms of value in the following order: 1) AWD - vehicle handling and safety, 2) 120V Power inverter (if used for camping), 3) Acoustic glass (this is not an official published option, but it came with our Platinum Trim Sienna) - this feature makes a huge difference for quietness of the car on the road, especially on long drives. 4) Spare tire (I believe in 2023 all Sienna trims are equipment with it) - run flat tires are inferior in handling and cost and often are not reparable after a flat. 5) Seat ventilation option - in hot summers it’s nice to have. One option I would pay to not have is the rear entertainment package. It’s bulky, outdated and obsoleted by iPads and such. I hope this is helpful. Let me know what vehicle you’ll end up buying. Cheers!

@@Tellvia Thanks so much for the info Tellvia. Re: the entertainment option - that's totally true - there are even small portable projectors now that could work against a minivan ceiling, if you don't mind a bit of a curved image. Your vids are motivation for aspiring minivan campers like myself. The alternative is a Chrysler Pacifica Hybrid - the high mpg from a hybrid is important to me. I'm not sure about going fully electric yet since I'm not sure the charging infrastructure is ubiquitous in the US yet.

@@joseville I love the Pacifica as well (the stow and go seats!!!) BUT you can't get a hybrid Pacifica that's also AWD, which for camping seems like a must-have. I'm sad about it; the Pacifica's gas mileage is really terrible.

Great videos! I have a 2021 LE that I am currently converting to camp out of.
Did you make a video about changing out the head unit in your Sienna? I thought I saw you briefly mention the unit in a video about something different. I used the search function and also browsed through the videos again, but couldn't find anything. Thank you!

    • @Tellvia
      @Tellvia  Před rokem

Thank you for watching, Kelly! No, I did not upgrade the head unit in Sienna. The head unit houses many different car functions that will be very difficult to make work with an aftermarket unit. Cheers!

Is there anything we should pay attention to when shopping for a microwave for camping use? I have the Panasonic Inverter model at home. It is supposed to use less energy. Is it suitable for traveling? My concern is the circuitry in a battery-op environment.

Thank you for watching! To operate 110V appliances you need a 12V - 120V power inverter. Our van came equipped with this option. The capacity of the inverter is 1500W. The microwave I’ve installed uses max 700W, so it is safe to operate it. I hope this helps to answer your question. Cheers!
