This is a walkthrough of how I fight Sirus and how I understand it to hopefully help you see how the mechanics of this fight can be done with practice. This fight really rewards you for study and practice and I want to share my love for it with ya'll!

Lately I only ever do Sirus due to the adrenaline and dopamine rush I feel from his lines and his soundtrack. When you get into the late parts of the fight and the chorus is cheering you on, it truly feels like a boss fight.

you can also walk into the middle of the arena when he says "everlasting fire" to make the cross beams spawn there and give you maximum space as well as the crossbeams being deleted the next time he teleports you into his meteor thing.
also the big die beam where he splits - on of them has a flashing hand up. thats where the beams are going to come from
Maaaan... i always fail dodging multiple die beams in the last phase, when the fire cross is spinning :(

Great guide, and great video as always! One addition: When Sirus makes his bukake circle of many clones, he lights up the same way you mention he does when he splits into 4 clones. Instead of being the first one to spawn like the 4-clone set, the way to see the real one before he lights up (since you can't damage him in this one) is to look for the one that raises his hands first. Seeing the hands go up gives you a lot of time, seeing the white flash is a fallback reaction check.
"You will long for nonexistence" "Meaning is an illusion"; when Sirus say these he fires a beam then he fires his famous "DIE" beam; sometimes twice. These are three fatal hits. It is not clear in the video you demonstrated how to deterministically know where he will fire his beams and where he will allocate after the "Everlasting fire" phase. Can you plz explain this. Thank you

Just amazing seeing others make it look so simple. I know his dps is decent. But it clearly doesn't matter once you get the timing/mechanics down.
Yeah I’m horrible at the fight too. This guy makes it look easy but you can see even he ate that last die beam. If that’s a normal build he is dead there 100%
Another top notch video! I always tell people that complain about Sirus that (in my opinion) the fight is genuinely near-perfectly designed. Has it had implementation and occasional buggy issues? Obviously. But the fight itself is incredibly strongly designed. It tests spatial awareness, pattern memory, quick target identification, and adaptability. Excellent fight, excellent video.
Exactly! I was saying before the clip this video is from that I just don't understand how you can say that you love boss fights and hate Sirus. Yes, there are flaws with occasional (1/20 times max) bugs and visibility could be better, but mechanically it's on par with the best Dark Souls boss fights.
It's probably due to the fact that in order to play the boss again, you can't just walk up to the boss arena again to actually learn the patterns. No, instead you need go to CZcams so you don't waste your time grinding fragments over and over again.

Not going to lie it kind of undermines your entire point of it being the best design boss fight and all of the RPGs if you have to turn up the brightness on your monitor to see the attacks lol.
Yeah that's really my biggest complaint about it. If they just changed the black/red theme with some bright colors (and fully ironed out the bugs) it'd be a perfect 10/10 for me.
@@subtractem I also think it is a good fight I don't enjoy it quite as much as you however dragging sirus around the arena makes it so tedious and monotonous that it ruins the entire experience for me.
Just done my first Sirus after all these years, died 3 times to the blackhole on the floor but his damage was tankable for my build. Thanks a lot bro.

The instructions and tips are really helpful, but I don't think it's fair to talk about how easy it is and then go into it with endgame gear and 11K ES. Most players who ask about it don't have the kind of gear you have in this fight.
I think it's important to especially emphasize here that gear really doesn't make the fight. It's really 95% mechanics and simple preparation (chaos res and corrupted blood immunity), everything on top of that is mechanics and knowledge. Besides my slight misclick on Flame Dash at the end Sirus effectively didn't hit me once. This could be done with a zHP build once you know how all the mechanics work. This is why I did two full rotations of his moves without even attacking.

I really want to always re-assert that knowledge and strategy trump gear most of the time in this game (for regular content). Sirus can be beaten very comfortable on roughly 1-5ex of defensive gear and 500k-1M damage, everything else on top of that is gravy.
I learned one more little trick for zDPS builds while watching a Gauntlet stream - the center of the spinning beam leaves a perma degen after it dissapeares. To keep your arena clean, you can jump into the middle of the arena as he says "Ever-lasting Fire!" (Sirus aims the center on top of you). The degen will get removed by the following Maze mechanic (it deletes the degen patch only when it is in the middle area, where you get teleported for the Maze phase).
I believe the 'Everlasting Fire" Usually comes right after the Maze, so you cam move in the middle in anticipation of it. Apart from that, as Sub says, its just pure mechanics and with some practice, you can do it on any build, no matter how long it takes you.
@@subtractem I totally agree, PoB says my poison seismic trapper's combined total damage is 194k, and I comfortably beat Sirus for the first time solo a couple of weeks ago after 3 or 4 failed attempts this league. I went in twice mentally prepared to lose and just learned the mechanics, but what really saved me was the defensive layers. 100% spell suppression and 30k evasion with flask made me pretty much untouchable, and I spent way less than 1ex on the build. I'm not contesting anything you've said, I just wanted to point out that as a viewer, and a player who only recently killed Sirus for the first time, that such a huge defense and such high damage skews the understanding of how much room for error there is in the fight, and that includes the occy. It might be a budget build for you, but I've never gotten as far into the endgame as you. I used to play a lot in beta, but the endgame back then was only act 3 and repeating 3 acts 3 times on each character gets boring quickly, so I stopped playing for many years, and only started again in Blight league. Seems like the perfect time for me to get into endgame content, now that GGG is completely changing everything in that area of the game! 😄

Although I've never had a character even beat the A5+ conquerors until now, so the fact that I even got to SEE this fight this league was amazing. Gonna see if I can't go around again and go toe to toe with him one more time, now that I have gotten a feel for it

I came here because I was confused about my sirus fight. Ive done him before, but when I opened his fight today and walked in he was acting as if I had already been fighting. He wasnt floating in his chair, but instead was immediately throwing out tornados and fighting. Literally blocked my entrance with tornados :(

My relationship with Sirus went from hating him when I first failed the fight to kinda looking forward to him after learning all the mechanics. He really isn't that hard but getting to the point of being comfortable with him is definitely frustrating.
and numerous times the inability to find the coz of death like most times when I dash out some sort of lag or stupid enemy mechanic design loops me back in front of the enemy exactly to take the killing blow, or in maps where you can't even find the source of fast corrupted blood applied to you, either these are bugs or careless game design
@@arjunratnadev when I die to Sirus I know exactly how I die. Maps though? Fuck that. If they want to slow the game down they should slow all the things that kill you in 2 seconds as well.

You lost me with "I really like the Sirus fight." I get to that last stage with the 4 crossbeams of death and die 6 times. Every time. It's so discouraging. When he teleports, I can't tell where he want, and by the time I find him it's usually on the receiving end of his "DIE" beam. I hate that fight with the white-hot intensity of a thousand suns. I love your content, however, so I won't hold this against you :)

I used to struggle immensely with that too. I don't know if this helps you but what worked for me was when I learned to stop being so greedy with how often I wanted to hit him. There are a few key moments in final phase where you are clear to unload a lot of damage into him (beginning of Everlasting Fire, the corridor phase where you either dodge his shots or just move past him). If you remember that outside of those distinct parts where you can do a lot of damage to him, don't even try to hit him. Just focus on avoiding his stuff. Once I did that, final phase became MUCH easier for me.
One more thing, specifically for the 4 crossbeams. Focus entirely on not touching the beam (don't constantly be moving, just move enough to keep avoiding touching it). The only time you need to pull evasive maneuvers (i.e. Flame Dash) is when his voice line ends and a die beam is coming. Otherwise, just actually spend a chunk of the time standing still when you are in one of the quadrants if the beam isn't near you.
I don't have the flask charges to walk out the maze quickly enough.
And a fight where you need external tools to see where you need to go is not well designed.

I just did sirus for the first time in my life and it went really well. Didn't even die.
I was doing it with James humprey's firestorm CoC energy blade with about 6.5k ES and 1% chaos res. I even facetanked the 4 beams and survived! Crazy :) Thanks for the guide!

Everythime i meet him, i have trouble to actually find him on the screen. And when i found him, he teleports, the maze kicks in or he throws big spheres at me, which (no offence) are NOT very low damage, because it is onehitting me with 5k+ HP anytime, seriuosly! and of course there is always burning ground whereever i dash to avoid the slowing beams and get hit by anyways :D

It is not as easy as you make it out to be. My health is just melting away no matter where I stand. I can barely move at all by just walking. I have to teleport and/or dash to get anywhere. I have died multiple times. I thought I could do this because it's purely mechanical and so easy.
Keep practicing! I promise it gets super easy eventually

Thank you for the guide, Subtractem. I’m a new player and today after reaching level 95, I decided to try Sirus. I have watched your guide like 5 6 times and thought I had it, but in the end I have failed all 6 portals. I don’t know why Sirus stayed on top of the deatomization storm during the intermission phase and I couldn’t go underneath him to trigger the next phase. I got him to the last phase but was panicking when he teleported and wasted my last portal. Now I have to farm all the fragments again, kinda disappointed😢

I don't think Zeus appreciated your hot takes on Sirus being a good fight 🤣I too love the Sirus fight, everything about him and the encounter, especially the badass music and his voice lines.
The problem with him is that it becomes trivial once you counter it, but before that, it is almost impossible to engage with mechanically. Which is why a lot of people hate it. If you can cancel half the fight through gear, is it a really good boss design?

Killed him for the first time ever on my 4th attempt this league after watching this video to figure out what I was fucking up
My main problem is how long it takes to spawn him, I have a genuine head injury and it can take a long time, and lots of repetition to really get it. And that's simply not possible with certain content
actually, when Sirus first came out, I found his fight surprisingly way easier than uber elder. I know there were a lot of hiccups during his first release but the tornadoes were patched as soon as people found it very problematic.
Those big red circles suck the life out of my character in about 5 seconds btw.

love this even though I can't use it. I've still never killed atziri lol. Still trying to find a good build to just grind maps rapid fire that doesn't take hundreds of ex to get going (I'd like to farm the currency to be able to fight sirus and the like). Just got a sabo to maps with 6l carcass and 2 CIP's but it's squishy af even at like T3 maps. I also don't like having to throw then wait for damage (same with TR)

Thanks for the video, but man, I cannot beat this guy every time I try. I even got stuck in his alleyway wall with a flame dash. You sure make this look easy! Off screen DIE beam is way too much for me to keep up with.

Tips number 1: movement speed
I think the lowest I've done Sirus is this league, with a build that barely does a million dot damage. Took me forever to get him down in the last phase after he consumes his shadow.
But Sirus is a very well-crafted fight. Just that sometimes the weird bugs make the fight harder than usual or outright bricked.
Sirius is just too hard for me. It just feels impossible.
yeah, one shotting is fine..but explain how to get back in the fight after u die....thats my main problem
I sometimes have that problem too, Curt. One thing I've learned is to dash between the big balls of whatever when you re-enter his arena, and get to the middle as soon as I can. The first time I tried this fight, I literally died the last 5 times just trying to get back to him. I couldn't find an opening between those big ground-effects no matter where I went.
In this regard, I think it's much harder if you die at least once - because getting back into the fight can be absolutely brutal. I can still die multiple times just trying to get back to the middle and find him again.
All in all, I despise this fight and will not be disappointed if they remove it from the game.

It used to but it's been solid for a few leagues now. Give it a shot again :) I fight Sirus at least 100-200 times a league and haven't seen a serious bug months now.

Totally agree! It is a flawed fight and I would never claim it's perfect but the raw mechanics of it I find so well designed and satisfying that it's easily a 8-9/10 for me overall.
Didn't managed to do it with Seismic Trap.
That hands let go wasn't best idea for me:D First time got kicked into a storm, second everything was fine, was just dashing to other side, straight into another storm (they sometimes look like you can make it, but they slow you then and you're done.) So I sticked on just moving away and so on. That die beam is super irritating, for me he doesn't always say before shooting, he does that ACTUALLY in the moment, like DIE and insta shot is happening. Internet is fine, fps too. With carousel type thing is always mayhem, because it slows you increddibly and drains mana (?), because I just sometimes run out of dashes and don't have enough mana to get behind him. I dodge the circle with raised hands end up somewhere where I cannot see him and I know die is next, so just circle, sometimes end up straight into his face. Regarding blinking, when they shoot 4 beams, I mostly can't see it on my screen (2560x1600), I can see one or two, but which one was first, got to be lucky and end up from the beginning near that one or just skip guessing.
I usually use super tanky build and one where you don't need to aim yourself, so minions, totems or aoe builds. Just concentrate on dodging and mechanincs, while something damages it in the back. Takes ages mostly.
You should have a pipe that blows bubbles when you do these style videos.

Seeing how the fight is complicated i have absolutely no clue how i killed it the first time staying on the leftm spraying and praying for a while with my TS. Maybe there is a loophole?

Still the hardest boss for me. :/ Makes me mad. Cataraina, Oshabi, and what not - way easier for me. Like, I really DON'T see when he flashes, or where he moves, that's too fast for me. Too much stuff on the screen at once.

Thanks for the video. My kill percentage is less good that I would like. He always gets me with the triple die during the spinning phase. Always feels like it happens faster than in the video, must be the stress of the fight. One thing you could explain a bit more, you said “now” and dashed a few times from that die beam, I’m not 100% on the cue you used as the timing seems tight.
There is a pause in all of his voice lines, you can dash as soon as he gets to the end of the first phrase before the pause as that is when he locks in where he will beam. The Sirus that will beam also raises his hands in flashes but you can also use the audio as a cue for where he is in case he's hard to find.

Not easy. Just bad designed sh where I need to unjust my monitor to see puddles (lol) combined with prince of persia style stupid mouse movement guarantiing I will go in to puddles unless i'm ironnerd having 10 k hours 10 y played from beta. Not a good thing if all difficulty come from puddles.
