Loving this documentary series to be honest, love the corporals they seem really great men
love this! series 2 please!
My nephew Callum is in this.
He went in a bit wet behind the ears but he’s completely different now, he’s now doing the javelin & I’m very proud of him.
I watched the second part of this tonight and one ND and the same recruit who can’t even salute properly, come on what’s going on? When I did basic training many many years ago things were certainly tougher and different, was it because the film crew were there he didn’t get absolutely beasted for such one serious cock up by having a negligent discharge and both from one recruit Harte. Not been picked up for a sloppy half hearted salute just reflects on his don’t give a shit attitude and in my day one who was pulling the rest of the section down was swiftly addressed either by the training staff or by the section. If he’s there in the next episode I’ll be very surprised. A good beasting never did us any harm in fact it made us more determined to prove the training staff we were better than that and also made us bond more and made sure each of us looked out for each other.
Shut your noise you wetter
It's almost like they learn and change idiot
That's why they are in training. It takes time for some to get used to the british army.
We can all sit here and pick faults, I bet you wasn't that great when in training.
Yes the british army has changed but so has the whole world!.
what you could of done 20 years ago, you just can't anymore.
@@Glen38 Well he was good enough to pass out successfully so that shits on your statement. And it's 'could have' not "could of!"
@@Sidney1WG Give your head a slap get a life and stop commenting on stuff that isn't your concern anymore !!
Amazing documentary! the mettle these kids have is amazing!
Paid bbc shill
Sorry, you couldn't be more wrong. The calibre of these recruits isn't a patch on the calibre of recruits the British Army had 30+ years ago. There is a general lack of self-discipline and maturity amongst them, and they get handled with kid gloves compared to Basic training back in the 1980's. Many of them lack mental resilience- they defeat themselves before they even take on a challenge. There was no such word as, "Can't," in the British Army years ago. As somebody who served, I was less than impressed with this bunch of milksops. The concept of females in the infantry is utterly risible too. Infantry are called upon to haul huge amounts of weight on their backs Eg on one Ex back in the early 1990's, I was carrying 140lb-150lb of equipment- bergen, webbing, rifle, 200 rnds of ammo, a 36lb Carl Gustav etc. These pansies whine about hauling 40 lb. In 2004, I spoke to training Corporals at Catterick about the standard of recruits. They were less than impressed by the calibre of recruits they had to contend with. Once Cpl, a Geordie stated, "We are constantly trying to polish SHIT these days......." That was nearly 20 years ago now. An army is only as good as the SOCIETY it recruits from, soft societies produce 'weak' individuals who lack vigour aka 'mental toughness/resilience. Time and time again, these recruits performed poorly, At best, they were mediocre, and many of them would never have passed Basic in the 1980's and certainly not in the 1970's.
@@liverpoolscottish6430tell that to the women PKK fighters who helped liberate Mosul from isis. Or those women fighters in Ukraine who killing Russians by the thousands.
In world war two most of the draftees/conscripts had like 3 weeks training. Join on the 1st and by the 30th you've been shooting Germans for a week.
I garuntee you that the exact same thing was said by ww2 veterns about 70s and 80s soilders. People on the 40s didn't have half the luxuries you had like an indoor toilet or one pair of shoes leaving school at 14 to then go do 12 hours down a mine without so much as a helmet.

Im joining next year. Hope this show doesn't make me think twice lol
If you didn’t do well at school and you haven’t any other clear pathway, then maybe the military is for you.
It made me think twice 😂😂
When’s it coming out

Don’t bother it’s a serious embarrassment 😮
@@gw2891 Isn't it just. Can't believe this is the same army I joined 34 years ago.
@@Sidney1WG same mate, joined at Whittington barracks back in 89. I reckon at 54 I could join this lot and get top recruit 🤦♂️
@@gw2891 Nice to meet you brother. I'm guessing you were sat there shaking your head watching it too.
Where's the fecking bed packs?! My basic training in Gibralter barracks Camberly (Royal Engineers) was hell (1985). Just over 50% managed to actually finish and pass out. It was a feckin nightmare. I'm seeing here a RECRUIT give an officer a thumbs up and bimble out of his office. Youd be in jail within a nano second if that happened in my day (Not on this trailer but the first episode.). Different times sure but from what Ive seen.. at an infantry training center no less.. my Corp training (we actually learnt a trade) was at least 3 times harder 🙄
Ooo you're Hard
What a bloody shambles
they’re army recruits. did you think they’d be SF standard or something😂?
@@user-ss2dt6gt5f I know it’s a like ok pull up a sandbag … but I’m telling you from experience they are a shambles and if they are the future of our infantry then keep your fingers crossed we never need them. Respect to them for joining, ain’t their fault it’s the standard that’s clearly dropped
@@gw2891 to be fair literally everyone has stuff to say when a military hasn’t been operationally used in a while i think it’s just people over thinking it
@@user-ss2dt6gt5f mate that’s quietly condescending.. I’m over thinking nothing I speak from experience lots of it and I stick by my assessment

Be the best be manipulated.
People like you say things like that because too embarrassed to say that you would never have the balls to do that job, purely because you're a coward. Someone has to defend this country, and thank God it's not the likes of you!
You realise they volunteer and chose the role they want, please explain how they are being manipulated? Funny thing is if another country attacked us you'd want them to defend you.
@@WillHoward2002 These lefty WOKE people always come out with that one mate. But they are so thick they don't realise that the only reason they have their freedom is because of our armed forces.
It's NOT Weak to not want or be able to join ip! Shocked to see this portrayed. Lots of men are either not that intelligent trying to prove something, I'm ot saying all but some!
When you say "Lots of men are either not that intelligent," check your spelling first!
It is if you are a coward
Says the clown who can’t even spell properly 😂
Got to say this, but I had a tougher time in Primary school. Anyone who says standards haven't been dropped to accomodate women in the infantry is flat out lying. One girl can't get over a 6 foot wall by herself, drops back on runs and starts crying that they want to go home? But they passed these girls and they weren't up to it. I remember one patrol I went on in Northern Ireland and the weather was too bad to get lifted out by chopper, we were carring over 100lbs in our bergens and I had the pleasure of carrying the GPMG, we had to tab back to camp 22 miles away. You see those girls doing that? I liked what they did too, they concentrated on the dumbest recruits alive, giving the viewer the impression that all infantrymen are thick as shit. One thing I always prayed for was that this WOKE crap would never infect the British Army, but clearly it has.
Have a word with yourself!!
100lbs with a GPMG walking 22miles yeah I bet that really happened.
Your moaning about the girls in the , well I bet most men in the army now couldn't carry 100lbs plus a GPMG over 22miles. (If that is even truth).
The standards haven't drop because of females. It changed due to it being out of date, Iraq and Afghanistan I never walked 8 miles with 20kg on my back. It was about 5k with 35kg. Hence why the new fitness test have been brought in.
Also men couldn't even pass the fitness test back in day in the day.
The army has changed because the world has changed.

@@drrandom429 you really need to ask?
@benkelly2190 The show? The recruits? The training staff?
You weren't really clear on what was embarrassing, to be honest...
@@drrandom429well, it’s difficult to know where to start! I can only, say the very low standard required. Of today’s infantry, is an embarrassment. I can see we now have a woke army to fall, in line with the rest of society. Am I embarrassed by it! You bet your sweet life I am!
For clarification, the staff were top notch, no doubt keeping, within the rules required, by those above.
The New PC version 😂 no thanks
I think the way that these soldiers in charge of new recruits speak to them is quite disgusting. It shows lack of education. There’s no need to swear!! The royal marine recruits aren’t shouted at like that! There’s no need to swear at all.
If you’re so worried about that then you’re in the wrong bloody job aren’t you then it’s the British army not scouts time to get a grip
Why don’t they show them killing civilians?

Clueless comment. We have to put our own lives at risk to avoid killing civilians, but none of our enemies have to play by the rules we are compelled to play by.
