New Born Baby Deer Rescue

  • Late in the evening a friend knocked on our door with a new born baby deer in her arms, not more than an hour old. She found the mother dead from a car accident, and the baby must have popped out of the mother during the accident. The tiny baby buck laid in his mother's blood on the side of the road. Our friend Angelea cleaned off most of the blood, and her and her mother Sakkara wrapped up the baby in a towel to bring it over to us. Without a mother, the fawn had little chance for survival, but we were determined to see her through the night until we could contact a local woman who is licensed to raise orphaned deer.
    Please note: We gave this baby deer water because in our remote area at night we didn't have access to anything better. Fawns cannot digest cow's milk, and we couldn't get goat's milk, which would have been an acceptable temporary alternative. We were advised to keep the fawn hydrated until we could get a proper formula for fawns the next morning.
    UPDATE: Rescued baby deer are released after maturity where they are found, and this little guy actually came from a nearby herd, not ours, so we haven't seen the guy again. We are comforted to know, however, that deer are amazing in their ability to survive great hardship.
    Many thanks to Angelea and Sakkara, and to Vesta for her work in helping local wildlife.

    Aw. so sweet. no matter what the species, "mom" is "mom" and teaches everything how to walk, how drink from a bottle, how to potty train etc...and in this case this poor buck, baby deer lost his mother deer (doe) in a car accixent and a human had to step in and teach him how to do all these things during the first 48 hours of his life before he was released into the wild and meet up with a family of deer his own kind and it was not easy because he was rejected by some of his family of deer because he was touched and handled by a human. such a sweet and wonderful story.

      Quote: " once you touch them, they follow you everywhere". This is why a person who comes upon a fawn waiting for its mother, should never touch it. The mother has only gone a tiny distance to graze for a few minutes and put her baby on a down-stay in the grass while she feeds herself. Don't touch the fawn, the fawn doesn't need rescue, the mother is nearby and will be back shortly. Never touch a fawn ( baby deer) that you might find in your yard or meadow or forest. You do not want to separate the fawn from its mother. Don't touch.

    There's a good deed and then there's this, saving a life. It's sad to think how many deers are killed without a single shred of remorse. A life is a life, a human's life is no more important than a dog's life or a deer's life. What these people did was incredible and I wish the world had more people like them.

    • @DyingToLive310

      I didn't insult anyone genius. But you did. Keep going on Einstein, by saying a dog has as much value than an human, you're already discredited yourself for the rest of your life.

    • @DyingToLive310
      @DyingToLive310 Před 9 lety +7

      Dupont Davignon What makes you or your life more important than theirs?

    • @dupondavignon869
      @dupondavignon869 Před 9 lety +2

      DocHollowDay
      Because i've an higher level of consciousness and because i'm more evoluated (and the nature "searchs" evolution). For the same reasons, a dog has more value than a bacterium or vegetables.
      More evoluated creatures have bigger power on reality, particularly humans, and they control their development. They can give a goal to their live, and don't just survive. Human can save other species, and preserve them (even if they destroy some too) : human (any creature as much evoluated) controls the world (not totally, but man isn't "totally" evoluated, but more you're evoluated, more you control.
      If a cosmic disaster will threaten one day the earth (and all living creatures on it), it's an evoluated creature who'll save all, not a primitive or under developped one. So the calculation is easy : if the developped creature dies, all die, but if the under developped do, all others will be saved by the developped creature (human on Earth).

    • @DyingToLive310
      @DyingToLive310 Před 9 lety +11

      Dupont Davignon Higher level? You know you're speaking about... people right? People that are more than happy to spend every waking moment of this one life they have on the search for colored pieces of paper. The same people that make a story on whether or not Nicki has a fake ass, have more attention than the cure for cancer? The same people that destroyed this planet and continue to do so? Cities full of people rapping, murdering and stealing from each other all in the sake of what? A false sense of freedom? That's the idea, you get tons of money you can do what you want. Well, a dog doesn't. The dog just, does what a dog does. He doesn't question whether or not he has meaning.
      And how do you know a dog isn't intelligent? Dogs speak by body language, tail position and type of bark. Dogs can communicate with each other just like two people having a face to face conversation. How do you know they don't have intelligent thoughts?
      Regardless, it all comes down to one thing. Your higher level doesn't matter. Every dog is unique just like humans are, they all have different personalities like humans. They can learn like humans. But most importantly, that dog also has one life on this planet. One... life. Like us, if he dies he's dead. If we die, we die... that's it. So regardless of shape, brain or "role" in our planet a life is still a life. And no life is worth more than another's because it has the same quantity... one. That's like saying the last orange in the world would have less value than the last apple. It comes down to opinion, and in mine, dogs are as much a part of life as we are.

    We gave him water so he wouldn't dehydrate. We are told goat's milk is acceptable for a fawn, but cow's milk not. The next day the rescue worker brought a special formula for fawns.

      @ ava walker thank you ava walker for that valueable piece of information. i knew that fawns are always given goat's milk and not cow's milk but i never knew the reason why.

    Dear dear folks, you did everything right and bless your wonderful hearts. Not only did you take care of the little tike the best that any new baby dear novices could, you made this peaceful and dreamlike video with taste and warmth. I'd want you for neighbors any day of the week. Just bless your wonderful hearts and may your good hearts continue unblemished. Thank god for people like you. I recently moved to a small rural village & often have deer,treating them to apples,banana & soft lettuce!

    Orphaned deer sometimes are adopted by other mothers, but usually from the same herd. Our local elder mother deer Eva seemed like she might have taken an interest, but we couldn't be sure, and this little guy needed immediate attention.

      What type of milk do you feed baby deer ? How long do you wait before giving them solid foods ?

    • @PelorianPages
      @PelorianPages  Před 2 lety

      @@craigalston2208 Fawns need a mother deer's colostrum (the mother's natural milk). If deer colostrum is unavailable the next best alternative is goat or cow colostrum. We had neither, but the deer rescue woman had a special formula.

    What a little sweetheart. How did the fawn manage to survive the accident?

    • @ThatWeirdDude40
      @ThatWeirdDude40 Před 10 lety +13

      I don't know if I should answer to that, because there is only one way it could been born with it's mother dead. The fawn itself wasn't hit. Imagine that the car maybe over-rolled the mother, somewhere in the first half of the body. Through the pressure of the car's tires, the baby-fawn was literaly "pressed" out. Not through normal delivery, but simply because of the pressure of the car's tires. I've seen this myself too once. But having no knowledge on how to handle baby animals (at least not fawns), I, or rather me and my girlfriend, took the baby to the nearest zoo. The baby survived there too. The zoo alarmed their own veterinarians, the baby-fawn was taken care off, an luckily the zoo had still a few places left for 1-2 fawns. There, the leader of the herd, also a matriarch, if I remeber corectly, even ALLOWED the baby-fawn to be part of the herd. I and my girlfriend became the godmothers of the baby-fawn, saw it grown, (it was a boy by the way) till, after 2-3 years it was sadly given away to another zoo, in another country, which needed an buck for their herd.

    I know this video is a few years old, but you guys are just the most wonderful people, truly angels for saving this fawn. it's quite obvious that your peaceful, caring animal lovers by the way the neighborhood deer know and trust you enough to come visit and get close.. I just wanted to say thank you for saving this baby.. when most people would turn and walk away or make a nasty joke about hunting, you had the kindness and love in your heart to take time out of your lives to save an animal.
