    This flash opens up some great possibilities. Imagine an off camera light that follows the subject’s subtle movements...like following the subject’s nose. I think Canon just innovated again with this speedlite. I would love to play with one. So Canon, please send one my way 😉

    Would this work with a diffuser , e.g. gary fong ?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  Před 6 lety +2

      A Gary Fong flash diffuser may be used on the Canon 470EX-AI Speedlite Flash if you wish to soften the flash output as many of the new Gary Fong flash diffusers are universal fit to connect onto a variety of flash head sizes. However, if you are trying to use the Auto Intelligent Bounce feature, it will not work with a diffuser. The Auto Intelligent Bounce works by using a laser next to the flash head to measure the distance from your camera to the subject and to the ceiling. Placing a diffuser on the top of the flash head blocks the view of the laser from making an accurate measurement, so the Auto Intelligent Bounce feature will not work with the diffuser. When using a diffuser, you would set the AI feature to .

  • @nimeshkumar2720
    @nimeshkumar2720 Před 2 lety

    canon 6D/My new Canon speedlite 470ex ai is showing a camera sign with a circle when I press the AI.B button. This is happening in the AI-F fully automatic mode. It is working fine for semi-automatic or zero degree modes. Ideally, when we press the AI.B button with AI- F fully automatic mode, the button should show blue light. This should subsequently have the flash find the bouncing angle automatically. In my case the camera sign with a circle stricken off comes and the bounce angle doesn't change.
    Does anybody know about this? Is it something that I am doing wrong or the flash could be defective?

    How does this shorten the learning curve when you’re not learning where to position the flash for the correct bounce and it’s doing it for you?

    • @BandH
      @BandH  Před 5 lety

      You always have the option to use the manual mode and set the flash position yourself if you are trying to practice learning how to use and position your flash. However, if you are not used to setting the flash position for bounce flash, I would recommend using the automatic mode and looking at the position the flash is choosing for your subject distance and the height of the room. Then you can place the flash in manual mode and see what effects you get from other positions. Automatic mode is a benefit that you can use in addition to the semi-auto and manual mode, and using all together can assist you in your learning curve. You simply have to pay attention to what is going on and what position the flash is choosing, and practice on your own in manual mode.

    • @BandH
      @BandH  Před 5 lety +1

      I contacted Canon USA with your inquiry. Canon states that while the flash will fire when attached to the OC-E3 Off Camera Shoe Cord or when it is configured to be triggered optically, the *AI bounce* feature is _not designed_ to work in those situations. For the AI Bounce feature to work, the flash will need to be attached directly to a compatible camera (EOS cameras released in the second half of 2014 or later).

      This chart provides more details about which cameras are fully compatible with that feature:

Maybe at events when you need to change from horizontal to vertical at a fast pace, and even then I think I should be having to wait for the flash to move...probably I'll be faster moving it manually. Looks pretty cool but there is no rocket science in knowing how to bounce a flash.
