    I have made this video showing different separators for different #cookers , on the request of one of my viewers. I have shown different types of separators, how to choose them and how to use them.
    Although most of the cookers are designed for direct #cooking , when we have to cook more than one type of food #combinedcooking , it is convenient to use separators.
    Hope you like this video. Please share your comments bhi and views below. Thank you for the love and support.

    Can v cook rajmah and rice together as both have different preparation time in it?

    • @BhuvanaAdi
      @BhuvanaAdi  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Aditi, do you mean cooking both in the pressure cooker?
      Yes, you can so that if you have soaked rajma for at least 10-12 hours or overnight.
      If you have done that, rajma can get cooked in the same cooking time of rice.
      Having said this, I would like to add that, it also depends on the type and quality of rajma. You can get to know this by trying out a couple of times. In case you fill it does not cook well in that duration, you can add hot water to the rajma before placing in the cooker.
      Hope this helps.

    Hi Mam. Good day 🙂.
    One query. We thought we should cook rice directly in electric rice cooker. We have a non stick coated rice cooker. In case we buy separators, should we pour water around the separators ( just like normal cooker)?
    My concern is whether the outside water will evaporate first in electric cooker and will spoil the electric cooker pan..

    • @BhuvanaAdi
      @BhuvanaAdi  Před 3 lety

      Hi Madhu, You have to pour water and have to keep the separators on the water just like we do in cooker. You can keep a steel ring below if you do not have a grid.
      I've used the separators in my electric cooker and it is quite safe and the advantage is you can cook different items at a time.
      I'll try to upload a video on that soon.
      If you feel/fear that the water below will get evaporated, you can open and check in between and can add some more water. Nothing to worry.

    • @BhuvanaAdi
      @BhuvanaAdi  Před 5 lety +1

      Hi Malathi, actually small cookers are meant to be used for direct cooking. There is no need for separator if a single item is to cooked. It can be cooked directly. But in case you have to cook small quantities of rice, dal/vegetables for a single person, you can use separators even in small cookers like 1.5 or 2 or even 2.5 litres. Thank you.

    I dal takes 30 mins to make and rice takes 15 mins to make, can I still use both dal and rice together in the cooker (separate separators)?
    Do I need to pause, take out rice after sometime and then resume with dal?

    • @BhuvanaAdi
      @BhuvanaAdi  Před 2 lety +1

      Hi Puneet, rice and dal are usually cooked together.
      You can soak dal if required for 10-15 minutes after washing it. That way both will get cooked at the same time.
      If not, when rice and dal are cooked together, rice will become soft. If you don't want that to happen then you can reduce the water for rice.
      I hope I've cleared your doubt.

      Hi, the cooker being small and with the separators you will hardly have space. But still it depends on the number and size of potatoes.
      If they are small and are not squeezed too much between the cooker and the separator, you can put a few of them.
      Try out and if you do not have problem in pressure release/whistle, you can do it. Else have to do it again with only the potatoes.

    • @BhuvanaAdi
      @BhuvanaAdi  Před 5 lety +2

      Hi Bhola Kumar, thanks for your query.
      1. I think 3L cooker will be ideal for 2 persons, as you can cook rice , dal and vegetables(any 2 at a time) using separators. You can cook rice once and the other 2 items the second time. Pressure build up in small cookers is very fast and hence cooking is faster, so even if you use the cooker twice you can finish your pressure cooking within half an hour. You can even have 2L or 2.5L, but smaller the cooker, it is ideal for direct cooking and for 1 person. You cannot cook multipe items at a single time.
      2. As shown in many of my cookery videos, I have been using PRESTIGE, VINOD, BUTTERFLY cookers. I've been using Prestige brand for more than 20 years. Butterfly is also a 50 year old brand and is very good, but I started using my 3L SS curved handi Butterfly cooker and the 1.5L Vinod SS cooker since 2 years. Both have been working fine with me. Many years ago I've used Hawkins cooker as well and found it good (but the inside lid type, so was not suitable for separators). I have given buying link in the end.
      You can buy any of these brands, depending on your budget, offers available and based on customer reviews(if buying online).
      3. To the best of my knowledge none of these brands sell separators, especially for the small capacity cookers. So you can buy good quality separators in a large Steel shop in your city, selling these items. The separators I have shown in the video are bought from steel shops in Bangalore, Mumbai and Chennai.
      4. You can take your cooker to the shop and get the perfectly fitting separators.
      Hope I have answered all your queries to your satisfaction.
      Thank you.

    • @BhuvanaAdi
      @BhuvanaAdi  Před 4 lety +1

      Hi, it is not compulsory to have a hole/groove on separator containers, if they are not air tight. The slight opening/groove/small hole helps water/steam to escape during cooking. The hole or gap in/between separators act as a vent for steam to escape.

      Hi Ramesh, firstly sorry for the delayed reply.
      Have you seen the video fully? I have clearly explained at two paces, about the need to use a grid. This is the reason - whenever the separators kept in the cooker, do not have a stand there is very little gap between the bottom of the vessel and the base of the cooker. This gap is essential for effective pressure cooking.
      So whenever there is no stand, use a grid plate at the bottom.

      Separators inside a cooker works on Induction. But though the separators are stainless steel and flat bottomed, and hence induction compatible; yet, it is better not to use directly on the induction as these are not made of thick gauge steel like cookers, kadais and other induction friendly cookware.

    • @BhuvanaAdi
      @BhuvanaAdi  Před rokem +1

      Hi Avantika, that is a good question.
      Actually manufacturers do not provide grids for cookers below 5L, which means you can use it as it is.
      You can avoid a base or grid if the vessels you use, have a certain height such that the water from below does not climb into the vessel.
      It is better to have a grid for flatter vessels like those in the separators. That's the reason they provide a stand with separators and also for easily placing inside the cooker and removing out from it.
      If you noticed, the tiffin boxes are used in a smaller cooker and they are not flat.

      I don't think nowadays you get copper bottom cookers. Copper at the bottom was given for even heat and thereby fast cooking.
      Now the sandwich bottom and induction based cookers are more popular. These also cook fast, as there is aluminium sandwiched between two layers of steel. Moreover copper is very expensive.

      @@BhuvanaAdi Hi, I'm currently living in Bengaluru. Can you suggest some good shops to buy stainless steel pressure cooker along with separator? I live near Kemp fort mall, checked out there, but only around 5 litres cookers available. I need around 8-10 litres. It will be better to physically visit the shop and choose separtors to avoid problems of fitting in pressure cooker.

      @@tomgeorge6453 You are right, 8 - 10 litres is a fairly large size with not many buyers. So not all shops are likely to stock it. First you need to find out which brands make these sizes and then look up the brand shops or call up the company helpline to know where you could get these. I am afraid I am unable to help you on this as I do not reside in Bengaluru and am not aware of such shops where you could get these. www.prestigexclusive.in/pressure-cooker-outer-lidss-deluxe-alpha-svachh-stainless-steel-pressure-cooker-10-l/p/15466307
      Check this out and call their helpline to know where they can be bought near your place.
      Even Hawkins seem to make SS cookers of that size. Please check out -

      You could call the helpline in this case too.
      I think after buying the cooker of your choice, you will need to visit a SS utensils shop to buy separators.
      Hope this helps. Thanks.

      @@Helpingstudents1 I bought it in a stainless steel utensils store in Chennai. But you will get in stainless steel cookware shops in any city. But when you buy from a shop it is better to carry the cooker along to check the size and fitment before buying. I have shared buying link in the description. It says for 3 litres. In case you are buying online, please check the size and also whether you can return it if the size is not correct. Thanks.

    Where do we buy these M'am

      @BhuvanaAdi  Před 3 lety

      You can get these separators in any stores selling stainless steel cookware. You have to know your cooker capacity and accordingly look for suitable separators. There are few brands and sizes available online on Amazon as well.

      Hi, Although I am sharing a link of a separator for 3 litre cooker, different brand cookers of same capacity could be of different sizes. I am not aware of which brand cooker you have and what is the size? My advice would be to take the cooker to a steel shop and buy it there after checking out the quality and size. Hope this helps. Thanks.
