  • Izukyu is a 45km line that runs along the east coast of the Izu Peninsula, located on the east side of Shizuoka Prefecture.
This video includes a 30km cab view from Izukyu Shimoda Station at the southern end of this line to Izukogen Station. I apologize for the fact that the window is slightly dirty and the video is not 4K.
The Izu Peninsula was known as a resort area with hot springs everywhere, but the development of transportation systems was slow due to the mountainous terrain that approaches the coastline, and the opening of the Izukyu Line in 1961 was greatly welcomed by people along the line.
One of the features of this line is that it has been built wide enough to accommodate long train formations, in anticipation of the large number of sightseeing trains that will be running on the line once it opens.
Another feature is that there are many tunnels. This video shows the inside of the tunnel, the time of the train stopping at the station, and the sections where the tunnels are continuous. However, it is 28 minutes long, so please take your time and watch it.
The first half runs through the mountains in the southern part of the Izu Peninsula. Although it is called a mountain, it is not very high, and it is completely covered with trees, making it a very Japanese-style mountain.
In the middle of the video, the train hits the coastline. The section before and after Katase Shirata Station is the highlight of this line. Although not visible in the cab view, this is a section where we can see several islands in the distance.
In the second half of the video, the train travels through a plateau area. The word KOUGEN, which is also in the station name, means Highland. Highland is located in Izu, so the name of the station is Izu Kogen.
Aaah. It is certainly a route with many tunnels!
However, it is a fun route to ride. If you have a chance to travel this railway, be sure to enjoy the sea view. I recommend taking a seat facing the east window.

Interesting railway line, lovely landscape - and at the end a nice Japanese lady who couples a second railcar unit to the train that has been filming so far... 😊

Female staff are cool. And they have the power to ease people's hearts. That's something men can't do.
Ships are often likened to women, too. And rightly so. But hurricanes are also sometimes likened to women.
Anyway, isn't this line beautiful? Next time I'll try to take pictures with a higher resolution camera.

Single track mountain railroading! I love the tunnels, deep cuts with slide fences, valleys and bridges. Add meeting trains going t'other way. And then there are the shoreline views! What a great ride you have shared with us! ❤❤🎉🎉

The Izu Peninsula, where the Izukyu Line runs, is located in a volcanic zone, with mountains approaching close to the coastline. As a result, the opening of the railway was delayed, and the Izukyu Line opened in 1961. Even now, there are many natural disasters in this area, and the Izukyu Railway maintains its routes at great cost.

Thanks again. Please don't cut out the tunnels.

      Thank you for your comment.
When taking photos inside the tunnel, I cut out the images because the customer's face is reflected in the glass.
It's a small video, but just in case.

    Very nice 🎉🎉🎉
Can I ask what is the gauge?
It doesn't look like standard gauge
    Thanks 😊

      @14ikesan12  Před 9 měsíci

      yes!
      You found it well.
The gauge of this line is 3 feet 6 inches (1067 mm). Many railways in Japan have adopted this standard.
However, some private railways such as Keikyu Corporation and Shinkansen trains use 4 feet 8 inches (1435 mm) gauge.

Спасибо за ваш комментарий. Океан, видимый на видео, - это Тихий океан. В ясный день можно увидеть множество небольших островов в синем море.
