- In this video I'll show you some tips on two up riding using the proper techniques. Head and eyes, friction zone and the rear brake. These techniques do not change with a passenger, nor does the passenger's weight have any effect on the techniques. We are still offering our two videos for 20.00 + 5.00 Shipping for domestic orders. Your riding skills are above reproach. Any experienced rider knows the importance of having an experienced passenger. The passenger can make or break any ride, especially when turning. I don't know how many times I've had to teach a passenger to be a motorcycle passenger. Though I had never had an over 200 lb passenger before, great practice.
Jerry -- thank you for sharing your knowledge, skills, and experience.
Your skills on the motorcycle are nothing short of amazing!
Tell him to put his hands on his knees 🤦♂️😂. Keep up the great work. I have learned so much from you. Thank you for shearing
Just want to share my appreciation for uploading these videos. Your incredible prowess has certainly made me a much better rider.
Gerry....you make motorcycling look like an eagle soaring..... fantastic....also love your ride along vids you've been making....
I never get sick of watching your videos. Everyone can always continue learning great motorcycle techniques. Thanks Jerry!!
Great training, thank you for taking the time to help us, Sir!
Thanks for the tips. I recently lost a chunk (80lbs) of weight and I was having a rough l
time stopping 2up. Having my wife lean forward when coming to a stop completely cured my issues. Thank you.
Great video...I (Rich) usually ride alone, but when I have a co rider I tell them to just act as if their are my luggage. I explain to them that "Luggage don't move, so you shouldn't move" (especially if they are a new rider.).
This was great ! I’m new to riding -as a passenger ( never driven one and right now am ok with that) my hubby is under 200 lbs and I’m over 200 ( about the same as you and the gentleman passenger) so this is very helpful to me and it will be to hubby as well ! Thanks so much for your videos!
Been riding for about a year and a half. About to take my 16 year old little sister for a ride for the first time to get our mom some flowers for mother's day tomorrow. I've ridden with my friend so she's not the 1st person I've put on the back of my bike but thanks for the refresher. Gotta make sure nothing happens to her. Thanks brother
Any time I’m searching CZcams for motorcycle tips I instantly look for your videos. You’re an amazing rider and give great tips. I’ve learned a ton from these videos. Thank you
I appreciate that!
Looking up on how to be a good passenger. A friend wants to take me for a 3 day scenic ride from Farmington, NM to Grand Junction, CO and down to Dove Creek. I was nervous but I feel better after watching this lol. Thanks!!!
This problem i was dealing with for a few years because my passenger should i say was plush and it did affect my turning at slow speeds ,then she felt that i have trouble with it,she quit riding with me.as i was told that the passenger should lean with the rider ..thanks for another great video
The passenger should lean with the rider as long as the rider is keeping his weight to the high side at low speeds. The guy I had on the back was doing the opposite. I was shifting my weight to the high side and he was leaning to the low side. I was still able to ride thru the exercise because well, I'm the Motorman...
@@motorman857 practice makes perfect
Smooth operator Jerry. Silky smooth. 😎
I once saw a bike tooling down the road with two people on it whose combined weight was at least equal to the weight of the bike. From a few feet straight back, you couldn't tell that there were two people on it -- they were perfectly in sync with each other and the bike. Got up close, and it was the gal who was in front (I later found out that they swap off every time they stop for fuel, food, etc. But man, they made that cruiser look like a monkey bike! The first word that came to mind was "Mootorcycle," but they rode like pros.
Jerry, you are the boss of that Harley Davidson. Good show! I like watching you totally control the bike-850# plus the passenger 230# and yourself 195# total= 1275#. Awesome demonstration of handling a loaded Harley Davidson.. That 114 cu in motor doesn't care.
Well done! Love it! 😃
I bet when you were born you came out makin’ a wheely
Greetz from Sweden, love your lessons 👊
This may be your best video. 🏆
Awesome video! Short, concise and very informative. Been riding solo for abut 5 years, just picked up a tsport and looking forward to taking my chick on long rides up and down the west coast this summer!
Glad it was helpful!
Excellent MotorMan! Great advice. I'll let the better half know to lean forward next time we're two up.
Yes. Whenever making low speed turns.
I tell my passenger to lean forward no matter what!! Unless it’s a dude...then I tell them to get their own bike🤣🤣.
You surely prove it can be done. Nice.
Awesome tips thank you a fan from Belgium 👌🏻
You're welcome.
Ain’t much too look at but boy can he cook! Motorman does it again with a rider trying to lean the bike into the ground! Great counter balance by motorman with a little extra speed!
That’s a banger of a song !
Great Video
Great info. May I suggest more "2 up videos". They really are informative!
Amazing !! good to know. I learned in school this techniques it was part of the exam.
Glad it was helpful!
lmaoff the music lol thanks as always, now cant wait for thre friken winter to leave so I can practice
My husband just bought a motorcycle this past June. I JUST for the first time got up the nerve enough to ride with him yesterday. It was my first time being on a bike in probably 34 years. So I enjoyed watching this video, apparently after our 6 hour ride yesterday my husband's only complaint was how I leaned when he made turns. I thought I was helping him so when we turned left into a place to eat for example, he and the bike leaned I guess into the turn, (left) so I didn't know what to do I leaned the opposite way 🤷♀️ At the end of the day he finally told me I needed to lean WITH him. Although I see you say the passenger should lean into your back so the weight is more centered.. I'm going to save this video and have my husband see it!! Thank you for sharing it and your knowledge. 😊
You might be misunderstanding something. When the rider is making low speed turns, you should lean forward towards his back to put more weight in the center of the bike. The passenger should never lean the opposite way of the rider. If the rider leans to the high side and you are up close to him, your body should be following the rider. If the rider sits straight up, you sit straight up. You should never be leaning the opposite way of the rider.
@@motorman857 Yeah I did misunderstand everything actually. And my husband just waited until we got home after the six hour ride to point out to me what I did wrong. So yes now I understand what I need to be or should be doing for a turn. I just didn't know what to do yesterday but now I do. 😊 Whenever I go again I'll definitely be more aware of what I'm doing when we are making a turn. It was my first ride yesterday since I was a kid so it's been over 30 + years since I've been on a bike ..
I always thought you mounted and dismounted on the left side of the bike. I will do it how you do it.
Thank you for the lesson.
Ghost Ryder I mount and dismount from left side cause my pipes are both on the right side however it looked like he stood on the floorboard to get up higher cause of the passenger instead of getting off from the ground.
I know its very late, but in a video he mentioned that US motorcycle cops are taught to mount/dismount on the right so they will be away from traffic as they do so for safety.
Love the music!
Was looking here for tips on what the rider does to sync with the driver regarding how they can Lean or not lean & tips on seat position, and what if they lean when there is no turn???? Thanks
IMHO, this epic MUSIC is usually used in epic fail videos)))) so at a sertain moment I was waiting for sth to go wrong
Riders ought to be able to do some of this for their own safety..... many might see it
as "Lame" but it's doing these little drills that makes a super rider. I'm looking for a
video I had where Japanese Police Bikes are doing a competitive road/cone course
against the clock. It's a hard course & challenging but they topped it off by running
it in heavy rains..... it was amazing... I'll try & find it as you might like to compare it
to what you know already.?. I have no bike but I'm watching this as I consider the
bike I'll buy.... I'm selling everything & going on a long road-trip. peace
Yes I've seen that video.
Yes Sir, they take their riding very seriously as we all should. I've been a
little put off by our young folks riding in little packs of punks. Busting
mirrors off & such but you're getting me turned on to riding again.
thank you much. peace
No idea of your age and not passing judgment. Please take a riding safety course. Then get some experience before you go off on a long trip. Be careful out there
Like a Maestro
My wife uses the kickstand side to get on bike she is a little on the heavy side.. Is that a good or bad idea?
232? I think he might be dyslexic and really meant to say 322. Regardless, silky smooth as always Jerry.
Lol, for real. I'm 5'10" 230lb and I'm half the size of that guy haha.
That looks remarkably like the high school in NPR. I've driven by there a few hundred times.
All kidding aside, Jerry Paladino is THE GO TO GUY if you want to learn how to REALLY ride your bike...If y9ou can't afford the 80 bucks or so for the package, you have NO BUSINESS riding on the street...
thank you.
I almost skipped the vid coz 1st passenger was too light to reflect my situation
glad I stayed tho 2nd passenger fit my girl to a tee thanks for giving me hope
I finally took my wife for a ride today about 40miles in town and interstate too... after almost 2 yrs of building up my confidence and skills . It went better then I actually thought. The main thing i told her is don't fidget and move around at slow speeds and in slow turns to throw me off balance . And it went well... The only thing I did is get on the bike first ...then off the stand and then let her get on it behind me? is the passenger on first approach better/ safer?? thank you
Great stuff Jerry. I have been doing your slow maneuvers for about 5 months straight. Do I need to adjust my suspension or anything for another rider over 200 pounds? I keep seeing change your suspension and not sure if this is a must. I didn’t see you do that but you could’ve when not recording. Thanks and keep up the great work. 2021 Road King Special
Pump your tires up to max psi and you can adjust the pre-load on your rear shock for a heavy passenger.
Motorman I gotta ask. How many times did you drop your bike when you first started learning these techniques? Thanks for all help.
I learned these techniques in motor school over 20 years ago. In motor training you start at 18ft turns. The first day I probably dropped the bike 5 or 6 times. By the 3rd day, my light came on and no more drops. In the Ride Like a Pro class the exercises are 24ft. That lessons the chance of a drop by a huge margin.
Good music choice Maestro 👍
Thanks 👍
When the pro makes it look so darn easy ..
One question do ... I do need to keep my tire pressure and pre set spring load in mind right?!
Yes.
Let it lean baby lean!
Motorman, I have a hardtime looking to where I'm turning, because instinct tells me to look and make sure the front of my bike is not going to hit anything, even though I know there is nothing there. It is easier in a parking lot with no obstructions, but in real life on the road it always is much more difficult to keep focusing once the head is turned to where you want to go. Any suggestions, other than more practice, to not keep turning the head back to the front? Thanks.
You pick the spot where you are going to make the u-turn by making sure there is no sand, gravel etc., at that spot. Then snap the head and look over your shoulder to where you want to go.
Great video! Quick question : isn’t the left side is the right side to climb up and down the bike? hot mufflers...
As you can see, no. By using the floor board to mount on the right side, you'd never kick the tour pack and dismounting from the right, you'll never step into traffic.
@@motorman857
Good point! Thank you so much.
I'm thinking 233, I'm pretty good at guessing people's weight. But on another note, when I'm on a country road up in the lower Hudson Valley area some roads are very narrow and are just dangerous to pull a u-turn b/c if you don't execute correctly you can end up in the ditch (side of road pavement drops like a ditch) so I play it safe and wait for the next possible u-turn available. Any input?
Push your limits under controlled conditions like you see in this video. Not on the street. Better to be safe than sorry. Back in the 70's when I lived in N.Y. I loved riding thru the Hudson Valley. A lot of people don't realize how beautiful N.Y. is once you get out of the city.
On an Electra glide, a passenger isn't anything different. I have a 2012 Electra glide classic, my wife's rode with me a lot. I definitely think that people overthink riding two up, slow down and either crash/fall over/or drop the bike. That passenger isn't adding ANY WEIGHT difference on that 867 lbs wet bike. It's just like when you don't, regardless the bike will always do its job, the rider needs to not have a fear of speeding up a bit with a passenger in turns, u-turns, curves, lose the fear and keep her near! Remember
"Loose the fear, and keep her near!©" - D.H.
Jerry quick ques....as your a approaching intersection, and see a car come out facing you making a left handed turn and you cannot stop, are you dodging by turn right , matching his direction? or turning left which would be pretty dangerous....big fans of the vids.....cant wait for the one with you riding a chimp on the back of the beautiful harley.......hehe
My decision is made when I see a potential threat 12 seconds before it becomes a threat.
I have a few questions about your mounting from the right side. It looks to be a lot easier than getting on from the left but I haven't tried it yet. I was just curious are you leaning your weight into the bike? I ask because I would be doing this on a Honda Shadow that weighs less than 600 pounds and was worried about tipping it over. My other question is dose the bike need to have a locking kickstand or can it be done without one as long as you hold the front brake? Still kinda new to some of this so any advice I can get would be great.
Yes I put my shoulders over the tank but on a little 600, just lift your leg over the seat the same as you do when mounting from the left.
@@motorman857 thanks. I will try that
232? ......hez FOS Jerry P...big boy hasn't weighed that little since Jr. High...come on....Jerry had to replace the whole rear suspension after that one! charge him 3 x more for the video Jerry....man your a good guy...........lol
He was a good guy for letting me video him on the back of my bike.
That was funny. Jerry, you and Donna are awesome...the last part was funny...I want a scale weigh in ...232? I don't think so..he dwarfed you..Thanks for the video, as always.
thanks Warren.
When going on long day trips with a passenger what would be some good things to pack?
Water and snacks. Stuff like this www.dolceterra.com/products/traditional-soppressata?variant=7003443658804¤cy=USD&u
Why do you get off the bike on the right side, in the MSF class I learned to get on and off the bike from the left side?
Tony Kiser as police officers usually have stoped on the side of the road, the safest pace to exit the bike is on the right away from traffic. The main reason for getting off a bike on the left is so you don’t burn yourself. That and balance on the smaller bikes. A large heavy cruiser there is not much issue with that.
@@davidhelmuth5707 Cool, now that makes perfect sense.
MSF's goal is to turn out beginner riders. Motor Officer training's goal is to turn out professional riders.
I want you to know that you've become a meme with me and my girlfriend. Every time I see a new video from you I always say, before watching it, that you're just going to say "head and eyes, friction zone, a little bit of rear brake". It's funny, but we're not making fun of you because you repeat it so much because those three things are just that important. I've become a much better rider from your videos and am finding myself making much tighter turns than before on my 800lb Road Glide.
👍
Hopefully I’m doing a toy run run tomorrow. Gonna take the wife to the church parking lot for about 10 15min first. Just got the rear seat and pegs on so haven’t had time to get her on the nick yet
That woman had me running late, didn’t get to practice with her on the bike. We both did well. Just had to tell her to stop leaning especially when we’re not moving. Went well.
Motorman was that you singing that song?
It was my alter ego.

Hi Jerry,
would your alter ego be willing to play the entire song? I would appreciate it.

232? I dunno..I'd have to see a scale on that one...lol
i thought the same, haha. i'm 208 and a lot smaller than he is
@@MattJesueleI'm 255 and a lot smaller than him LOL

Does the extra wait affect the braking
Of course it does.
Good thing that passenger can cook! :-P
232 my ass... 😂 great video though. 👍👍
Lmao the dude in the back floppin around like a sausage
You can take your damn hands off my hips now
That guy likes holding on to you love you man. LOL should’ve put him on their faces backwards
He agreed to get on the back of the bike because it would help other riders see that technique will save passengers from possible disaster.
I know I was just kidding. But your shirt should have one of those guys ride backwards I’m back your break. Just playing love your videos
What if my passenger is 400 pounds ?
I think the word you were looking for is " Robust ". Lol
Big Bone maybe
Sheesh!
The technique of "head and eyes" should also be deployed by the pillion - that needs to be emphasised - otherwise, an exemplary demonstration. Thank you
Big show off...it's cold up here and we cant ride! (sob) Waltz? Geez!
D. Wade woukd have given this ride a 9
282 maybe
My GF lean on my back too tight and her helmet keep bang on back my helmet… come to find out after I pull over.. she napping!! 🤦🏼♂️
Where were the tips?
Turn the volume on.
I guess my polite way of saying larger woman would be full figured. As I've gotten older I've learned to appreciate them 'cause there ain't a lot of skinny 60 year olds.
That dude is at least 250-260 lol 230 my a**
I don't believe hes 232 lbs.
Jerry Buddy, you are cool, so are your videos. however, that dude behind you is not, lol.I would of gotten a big girl instead. But it was a good laugh.
He was nice enough to agree to get on the back of the bike knowing full well people would make fun of him. He did so to show riders that even if you have a heavy passenger, the techniques still work. I thought that was very nice of him.
@@motorman857 Oh for sure it was nice of him, it proved that head, eyes, friction zone works. it just looks funny me, I would ride with a fat chick than a skinny guy any day.
On a serious note. you have made me a better rider thanks to your videos and response when I have had a ? .....thank you.
What , mount from the left.
Did you see how well that worked? No kicking the bags or the tour pack.
No way red shirt was 232. Looked more like 252...at least.
Lol...232.
Impressive demonstration but was there a tip?
If you can't figure it out. watch it again until you can figure it out. But let me help you. Tip one, let the passenger get on first. Tip two, the techniques remain the same with a passenger on board. Tip three, if you're a skilled rider, you can handle a heavy weight motorcycle with ease even with a 250lb passenger SO GET SOME TRAINING IN THE PROPER TECHNIQUES!
Hard to judge because the more you drink the heavier the passenger gets. Lol !
If your wife is in a “power position” lol…
232?! Bull crap. That guy is at least 262. I would've believed that.
All the safety videos I have seen are only 2 wheels how about doing some videos about tri glides
I don't know of any trike owners that have a problem dropping their trikes.
here my two cents might help...worst biker is #1: men who are biker...this includes me.😀..why? because the men who are always the drivers doesn't know how to behave when they are the passengers and tend to assume a leading role. and not a secondary one with eyes, head and body that allows the driver to do the job. Sometimes I even try to hit the brakes with my feet, this happens to almost every driver who now is a passenger. I'm only a good passenger when I put my mind to it...especially when the driver is inexperienced or in training ... #2 Men tend to be stiffer, heavier, taller and if the driver is another man then will not feel comfortable being so close to another man and having to hold him by the waist. This can be solved by convincing yourself that is crucial that you adopt the passenger role and not try to drive the motorcycle at all and need to trust the driver... the best average passenger is: a woman, who doesn't drive motorcycles at all, not very tall, listen , accept and learn to be relaxed but not to the point of not being ready or paying attention for any manoeuvre, not to lean with the bike in the curves at high speed more than the rider does and at low speed stay relaxed , preferably upright and looking at the driver's neck..that worked for me
I could swear hi s wife is doing all the steering, Jerry can't be that good, or is he
That is funny...two dudes on a bike🤦♂️🤦♂️🤦♂️
You missed the entire point of this video? Mores the pity.
@@motorman857 I got the point motorman...my wife don't ride with me enough to practice double up. But it just looks funny two guys on a bike. No disrespect jerry
Red shirt reminds of Humpty Dumpty. Too many Big Macs fella.
C'mon. The guy was nice enough to get on the back of the bike to help other riders and drive home the point that technique is needed especially when riding 2 up.
