That's not the only way to wear a NATO. The other way is to put it on your wrist before going through the loop, then go through the loop, then buckle it. The watch sits lower and won't snag as much as it would with two layers of canvas or nylon under it. Also you won't have to tuck any extra.
My Seiko Super Cub NATO strap has you tuck the tail in the other way, outward revealing the Honda logo. So I tuck in all my nato strap tails outwards. I figure that’s the correct way to wear them 😂 but hey to each their own. It’s your watch wear it as you please.
It looks like a vintage military issued field watch. There's many brands that make this style of watch. The most common is the hamilton khaki field mechanical.
I cut the short part off and just use the long part. Also FYI I put my NATO straps in fabric softener for awhile to soften it up so comfy...

When i got my first automatic i got a bunch of qr straps, but i just didn't love them. Got a NATO strap and loved the look and the secure feel.
