    Hey guys, out of curiosity...weren’t there fiberglass all over? I opened up my memory foam mattress like that...and started itching like crazy! Then realized the bed was covered in a “sock” which was actually....fiberglass! I googled a ton of stuff and found that many mattresses are made with a fiberglass cover for fire protection or something. For those who want to try this awesome project, which btw looks amazing!! Just double check the cover which has a zipper(for some reason) that the tag doesn’t say “don’t remove cover” and something like “62% fiberglass” like mine did. Again...loving this video...just wish I knew about the whole fiberglass thing.

      Hey Leme! We didn’t run into any issues with our mattress but I am aware of the fiberglass after reading up on it! Ours was good though! Thanks for watching!

    How much wider than the actual bench width did you make your cushions (to ensure tight gaps)? I like the nice snug fit you achieved.

    To prevent stains on your Upholstery you might want to spray it with NEVER-WET.

    Hi there, thanks for sharing this valuable information. When you say, make the cushions little bigger than the size of the space, are we talking an extra centimetre on each cushion...??
    Thanks //Marie

    Great work. Now that you have used them for a while, do you feel the piping on the edges when you sleep and is the piping doing it’s job to maintain the shape?

    Hey Mathers! Appreciating your instructional and detailed videos over the last few months as we are building a van as well. I am about to take on cushion creation and have a question about dimensions. If you recall, what was the distance from wall to wall in the van and what was the total width of just the foam (before the foam was upholstered). I like the tightness of how your cushions fit together when laid flat for "bed mode," and am looking to make sure that happens for us too. Our width from wall to wall is 69" exactly and was planning on cutting the foam so it totaled 69" and hoping the fabric and batting added that extra material to make it tight. Do you remember what width you cut your foam to? I know this is a detailed question, but it feels like an important one! Thanks!

    • @MathersOnTheMap
      @MathersOnTheMap  Před 3 lety

      I can’t remember exactly I’m sorry! But I would do at least 69” maybe 70”?!

    Hey guys, do you know if the upholsterer added anything like dacron to your memory foam mattress cushions? As in, when you unzip the cushion cover, is it just the plain mattress that you see or is there additional foam wrapped around the mattress cushions?

    I had one question....
    I was wondering if my electrical unit can actually power the Bosch electric heater 2.5
    I have 2x 100amp battle born lith. Battery’s
    And an Xantreck 2000 watt sine wave inverter... would you two know by any chance? 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

      @johnnydavies12345 Před 3 lety

      I know you’re not an electrician but I just don’t know what determines whether I can power it or not. The heater says it is a 1440w but does that refer to the size of the inverter I need? Eeeek help😆

    • @MathersOnTheMap
      @MathersOnTheMap  Před 3 lety +1

      are you referring to the table or the cushions? our cushions are roughly 73 inches long and we made them a little wider than the surface area of the benches to ensure we would have gaps between the cushions when sleeping, it's really snug!

    • @MathersOnTheMap
      @MathersOnTheMap  Před 3 lety +3

      We were nervous about 4” even though we wanted to go with that. You’d probably need a firm one which would eventually wear down over time but could work? I honestly don’t know since this is our first one 🤷🏻‍♂️

    The build looks AWESOME!!! I love it. Question. Can I ask for some of your measurements for your bed/dinette area? How high was each of your steps? Also, how high did you do your benches before you put on your cushions? Also, what was the depth of the seat benches? How do you like it now that it's complete? Are you happy with these sizes? Or would you go bigger or smaller on any end? Thanks!!!!

    • @MathersOnTheMap
      @MathersOnTheMap  Před 3 lety

      Hey Krista thank you!! I think I would make the depth of the benches wider and more space for our butts! It’s hard to get perfect though because that would reduce the width of the table since we use it as a platform for bed mode. Height is about 15-18 inches, steps are about 9-10 inches high! Sorry I don’t remember the exact dimensions but I know I mentioned them in other episodes. Check the episode on building the bench boxes I probably mention it there

    Man you spent almost $900.00 for cushions. Did you get zippers into each cushion for easy cleaning if a spill happened. And hopeing the fabric is spill proof. It only takes a hours too finish the covers yourself. Fabric cording And bias trim overlay and zippers and threads.

    Gee, after having watch so many van lifers videos about their vision of the permanent bed, I am deeply concerned: how the hell will you survive to that horrific and tedious task of making the bed twice a day???

    • @MathersOnTheMap
      @MathersOnTheMap  Před 3 lety

      Haha good question! We’ll see how it goes. We’re both really big on making our bed every morning as the “first win” of the day but then again at night will be something new. I also think there will be some days where we may leave it in bed mode

    • @TheVanderfulLife
      @TheVanderfulLife Před 3 lety +1

      In some ways, doing it this way is far more flexible since you could leave it in bed mode 90% of the time, and still use the storage underneath and then on the occasional time when you need a desk, or want a table, or to host you can change it

    After reading reviews on Amazon, I'd be leery about buying this mattress. Either fiberglass issues or more likely, mold. Yuck!
