Cargo Camper Conversion / NO SEW CAMPER CUSHIONS

  • I'm making no-sew cushions for my cargo trailer camper conversion. This is the fastest way I could think to do it. I can't sew, so this is the easy way to do it. I need a bug-out RV for hurricane evacuations so I'm converting my cargo trailer to a camper that sleeps 5. It's going to have two beds, a dining area, a kitchen, and a bathroom. Can I fit all this into a 12-foot long trailer? Find out. I will be following this up with more videos showing the conversion.
    Thanks for watching!

    From a lady that sews, your method of not sewing was perfectly executed. 👌

    Light coloured and pretty materials are a dirt magnet! Just offering a few ideas to consider that might make your cushions easier to keep clean. Because your cushions are glued to their wooden boards, they may be difficult to clean as well as take a while to dry. Removable and washable base cushions and covers might be more practical in the long run. I know you hate sewing, so here are three no-sew options to consider applying next time: 1. Iron-on hem tape - you can use this stuff to make hems and seams. You might need to experiment with folding your fabric differently so that you could use iron-on hem tape instead of sewing the hems and covers shut. Although this tape only holds up to a few washes, it's easy to reapply when needed. (I suppose fabric glue could be used in a similar way, but realistically, you need to use clamps to hold fabric together until dry, so it's a very finicky and messy option). 2. Snaps - there are several types and sizes of snaps on the market that you can use to snap the cushion covers closed, as well as to attach the base cushions and their covers to the wooden support boards. You need a hammer and a hard surface to work on for this project. You can get upholstery fabric and camping canvas snaps, as well as much stronger ones that are designed to attach durable fabrics to hard surfaces. Look for rust-proof metal if you live near the ocean, or in a humid or rainy area 3.Strong adhesive-backed hook and loop tape (ex. Velcro) - this could be used to attach the cushion covers to the boards, or even to seal the cushion covers shut. I've used this type of product to attach a 6' long fabric valance to my kitchen window frame. It has held up to several washings so far (don't put it in the dryer though). If your girls are anything like mine, they're going to spill food and drinks on those pretty cushions. Now add one or two rambunctious dogs to the mix, and you're bound to have a smelly mess on your hands! All the best to you and your lovely family!

      @@HAXMAN Been using that knife to cut the foam in our gun cases for years. Works like a champ. Spray a little plasti dip on the foam afterwards and the guns wont fray the edges and looks clean. Also allows to the change the color or add a pattern to the foam.

    After working with and talking to several professional upholsters over the years I say you are correct that the electric knife is the best way to cut foam, short of a very large, dangerous, factory size hot wire. Plus no smell and they still use the electric knife to fine tune the foam anyways.

    Mr. Haxman;
    This turned out beautifully. I have a great weather proofing tip that you can use: 1 tube of cheap 100 % silicone window caulking to a can of mineral spirits. Mix together well in a trash bag. Add whatever cloth (sheets, clothes..) put your fabric in the bag until it is good and saturated. Then ring it out really well and hang for 24 hours. You now have water proof material. If you do sheets they act like a tarp. This works great for hunting clothes or for outdoor cushions.
    If you want to waterproof proof those cushions you still can; get a disposable plastic container and just mix the two ingredients till it looks like you’re stirring paint
then take a paintbrush and paint it on and let dry completely.
    Love your channel!

As against buying expensive material I opted for a great pair of decorative curtains off of Facebook marketplace for ÂŁ15 and will be gluing and stapling tomorrow. Thanks for the tips... I really wanted to avoid the sewing and now will.... when they get tatty I'll buy some more curtains and refix... but they'll do for this year 100%

    Where did you get the foam from? I’m debating on ordering off Amazon vs going to Walmart or hobby lobby or something like that.

      I ended up ordering it from an online foam distributor. I can’t remember the name.

Also it does not have a bathroom but I have a portable Potty Any ideas on how toIt's a little camper up. It's a 1963 fleet craftNo air conditioning or heat but the electric works.. Any advice would be great

      I have a vintage camper also. 1968 Sprite made in England. I used sunbrella outdoor fabric on my cushions because it's a bit more durable than standard fabric and won't fade with the light coming in my large windows. I didn't bother going with the rolled trim type on mine. I just did mine so that I can remove the fabric if I need to clean it at some point. I wrapped the cushion with the fabric similar to wrapping a package like he did but instead of stapling in place I used velcro that has an adhesive backing. If you are on face book there are a lot of vintage trailer groups on there that are great resources. Also check out Tin Can Tourists.
