Always enjoyable when a Wandering Hillbilly video drops. Instantly puts me in a more relaxed island state of mind!
That’s amazing. Thanks for watching
Just got to say, Your a breath of fresh air. Enjoyed this very much
Why thank you and thanks for watching
Keep on keeping.....Hillbilly. Really enjoy the content and your delivery. You bring dreams into people's home's.
I appreciate that!
OH and GO COWBOYS!!!
Thanks for the video, brings me relaxation on a stressful day at work.
Glad to hear that!
Alan get those dang bananas off the boat asap! Bad luck for the next adventure. 😮
Don’t believe in it. Thanks for watching!
Alan...I have watched your videos for a while now and I can say one thing, you are always thinking ahead; I personally think that IS!!...the key to success. I hope for you there is plenty of time to decompress from all the thought and DRINK (but of course not to much) to relieve the stress. be well.
thank you so much!
Alan, thank you for another enjoyable and informative video. It makes me smile how you are enjoying a full life with friends and family. Your channel has become my all time favourite and I look forward to following your adventures.
My pleasure!
I have just found your channel and I'd like to say your refreshing style and calm voice makes your videos an absolute pleasure. As an English born now Australian I even understand your accent. :).
Welcome aboard!
Go Rangers!
Brings back memories. Thanks.
Great video Hillbilly! Keep them coming
Thanks! Will do!
Another great video! Great idea for battery storage. A coworker of mine years ago, lost his home when a couple of "dead" batteries shorted out together in his kitchen trash can. Also that tablet based control system is awesome!
Thanks for watching
I just discovered you and are really enjoying all of your videos! We charter a crewed catamaran every year and have sailed BVI's, Grenadines, Exumas and Tahiti. We are returning to BVI in May, 2024. Hope to run into The Wandering Hillbilly one of these days! I have one request - at the beginning of each of your videos could you introduce everyone who appears in the video? I'd like to know who everyone is! Your daughter, niece, wife, assistant, etc... Looking forward to all of your video and living vicariously through you! :)
Yes I will! I keep forgetting to do that. Thanks
Can’t think of a better way to end my Sunday night. Thank you.
Any time!
NELSON!!!!!!! He was our taxi guy....awesome guy!!! Oh man....now I REALLY am missing the BVI!!
He’s the best!
Great Video! The amount of work it takes to make sure everything is ready is really interesting!
You got that right! Thanks for watching
The water taxi is a Boston Whaler ! Another reason the $200 is well spent.
Over
Great job breaking down the turn-around. Love the watch, great fit on your wrist.
Thank you kindly! That was a TAG!
Great Job Alan! You are really learning the tips and tricks of what to look for as a big boat owner. Also what is cool you getting out the tools and fixing them! I think that is awesome! I did the same thing myself with my boat. Learning and understanding the boat is stressful for some people, but it is relaxing for me because it is a confidence builder as it looks to be for you too! Again Great Job! Safe travels from Dallas, Tx.
Thanks 👍
Hey, it was great meeting you at the Ranger game. Thanks for taking a few minutes to talk. we are headed out to the BVI's shortly and was wondering if there is a water taxi from St Thomas that you prefer? Have a great day, looking forward to future videos.
Maldiv charters. Ask for Anthony
Definitely alot of work behind the scenes. Thx for your efforts!
No problem!
Love the channel! I can't wait to see what comes next!
More to come!
Another great video, enjoy round two
Thanks
Bananas ? Oh oh … Lol
Great to see a shout out to Peg Legs, the BBQ & hospitality was top notch there. As always, the vids keep getting better! Cheers bud !
Thanks again!
love it you are the man. keep it up
Thanks, will do!
Keep living that dream and inspiring others!
Thanks!
great job captain
Thanks!
Love, love your videos. My family just completed a 2 boat (one power, one sail) charter last month. It really is a special place. We had a great time and all agreed it was the first of many trips to the BVI. Cheers!
Beautiful! Thanks so much for watching
Been waiting on this!!
Enjoy!
Had a blast at Omars over Christmas! And shopped at Riteway!
Livin the dream!!
I gave my wife one of those “battery buddies” for Christmas. The swelling has finally gone down. Just kidding, she liked it.
Lol
Thanks for inspiring us! Another great video!
We watch you every week. ❤
FYI: as an esthetician, Im noticing a lot of hyperpigmentation on your face/forehead/top of head. (Sorry! It’s the esthetician in me!)
please keep mineral sunblock on board for you and your guests!
Look for the ingredients Titanium dioxide and or zinc oxide.
I will step off my soap box😀, thanks for listening and keep up the good work!!!!
Awesome! Thank you!
Another great video on the turning the boat. Gives me a glimpse into what the crew at Marinemax does on a weekly basis. We always try to keep beer and food for the marina crew. You mentioned the water taxi from STT. Who do you use? Much better deal than we paid. We spent almost $2200 with fees to get in and out of the BVI. Thanks for keeping us land locked sea lovers entertained between trips to the water.
Thanks for watching! Maldiv Charters! Ask for Nelson!
I always enjoy your videos , other than I think 1 and for the life of me I can’t remember which it was . I’m sure there are other people who have criticized your videos but I think they’re nutz !
Thanks
You might need an assistant on your CAT. What about the retired attorney you know, I think he would work for beer.
Hah. Thanks for watching
i wondered where your vids went... apparently i didn't have the bell on... could have sworn otherwise.
I see you are ready for me,... I'll bring the gin 😀
Hah. Hendricks please
My Aquila 44 starboard burns more fuel than the port too.
Right? Every Aquila owner has said this. Hope you’re well
If the generator is on the starboard engine, that's likely why it takes more fuel. OR at least one of the reasons.
Only one of the reasons…thanks for watching
Your fuel discrepancy is caused by having ZF gears. They have to build one side to counter rotate. Twindisc gears don't have that problem.
I’ve heard this. Wasn’t much a believer in it but beginning to be. Thanks for watching
Love the videos, you are living the dream. Just had a question about your boat. How much fuel can you hold with the extra tanks and what is your fuel burn at your slow cruising speed? I think I have heard you say you like 10 knots in another video somewhere.
Holds about 700 gallons. I burn about 12 gallons an hour at 10 knots. I literally can fill up in January and not fuel up again until the fall.
It would be my preference to never run any diesel tank empty.
Hi Alan, Since you mentioned editing here, a question please. From your profession, I would imagine some things that you've learned along the way are encompassed in your editing. Can you share what is one thing you make sure you do when you're editing and one thing you make sure you don't do during editing, in order to give your channel the feel it has. Thanks, Tom -Love the turnaround process. You're guests are really getting the personal touch!
That is a very deep question. I am first and foremost an editor. It’s who I was born to be. I developed into a really good director cause I can edit on the fly. And…I shoot the “story” cause I know how to edit. I have very few shots that hit the floor cause I only shoot what I need. Now listen, this is also 35 year’s experience editing. I started editing on 2” tape back in 1982. I mostly watch for repetitive information…that’s death…and most importantly pacing. I have to be able to dance to my edits. Sounds weird but the piece has to have a rhythm that never stops. It’s just a feeling. I know that’s vague and kinda stupid but it’s what I do. Thanks for watching
@@thewanderinghillbilly Not stupid at all. You're giving a Master class that we can't sign up for. Every channel has a culture I was thinking yours is very intentional. Thanks for taking the time to explain and sharing the knowledge. -Tom
Alan: Kudos on another marvelous video. A question that came to me from your earliest "impressions" videos is ever since you acquired the Aquila 54, have you had any "long lost friends" or "missing relatives" suddenly reappear in your life, and ask if you would take them on a cruise? Inquiring minds want to know 🙂
Of course!! Now they know who are MY best friends! Thanks for watching
Love your videos, keep um comin. Why did you settle on the BVI? Cost, taxes, what drew you there?
I’m comfortable there. That’s the bottom line. And my boat matches it’s surroundings. Thanks for watching
Fyi. American now flies direct from Miami to Tortola. Saves a 1/2 day by not going through PR and taxi is only $60 for four people to Nanny Kay instead of $200 pp on the water taxi. Bonus the plane is bigger, not as much a puddle jumper
I’ve heard! Amazing
I can depend on your channel to take me to some far flung place. BTW wife and I want to trip to BVI which would you pick to fly in to a resort.
Little Dix Bay is my fave. Thanks for watching
How well is the "Hull Shield working" was thinking of putting it on my new Yacht.
It is now a factory option for the Aquila 54 - so it seems to be passing the test.
Hello love your videos..I have a question in regards to insurance. We haven't owned a boat in awhile and looking to buy in Florida and wondering if you had to have a captain as a rider on your policy or paid extra because it just you and ocean experience?
good question. depends on your experience. I had to hire one for the first 50 hours. some have to hire them for a year! each situation is different. I will say this....it's EXPENSIVE. Upwards to 30K or more a year...get ready for that. thanks for watching!
Looks like you are living the dream, have you retired now and become a full time captain?
Nope. Back to LA next week to start working. Thanks for watching
Can you tell me where you get your hats? I'm trying to have some custom ones made for our boat. Do you like the quality/style? Thank you!
Can you help?
I notice you do not seem to do any fishing? Why?
I’m not a fisherman. Thanks for watching
Bananas on a boat?
Hells yes.
When you say “when they provision you, they bring it right on the boat”, who is this “they” that provisions boats?
Either Bobby’s Supermarket or Rite Way. They both deliver. Thanks for watching!
This is why it’s way cheaper and easier not to have so many (or any) friends 😆😉
Hah. Thanks for watching
Have you ever made a video where that lemon didn't need to be worked on?
Have you ever made a comment that wasn’t negative?
