Yes. Composing a tasty solo is the most important shredding skill. And most times it is missing. Nobody wants to listen to never-ending sweeping exercises. Them are boring even at 220bpm if there is no general idea, expression and feeling into it) 🔴
I can’t believe I’m gonna write this comment because it sort of goes against a lot of what I believe in but…. Bradley you gotta stop stuffing around on CZcams. Form a band and make some incredible music with other people that will blow our brains out. Take your rightful place among the greats. You are so freaking talented and every single “throw away” riff you come up with is miles better than 90% of the garbage out there. You are incredibly passionate about metal and have the skills to fuse all this together into something amazing.

That's some actual sorcery my guy. Meme hard, play harder. Personally, I found that hybrid picking and economy picking came pretty naturally over time, as did diatonic figures. I always struggled with big nasty sweeps and outside playing. Still do. You're absolutely correct that the highest level is just strong composition. I'm always blown away by people who are good with pentatonics and melodic arpeggio playing, probably because large intervallic leaps are exciting and getting good results from fewer notes is pretty impressive. We always have to remember that the main purpose of a solo is to cut through the song at a pivotal moment in the hope that we can elevate it. By that metric, even simpler players like Kirk Hammer are good.
Question. When I was a kid I learned piano and drums. I had to learn to sight read the three clefs [bass / treble / alto] as well as drum key and learn music theory [circle of fifths / major key / minor key / scales / chords / arpeggios / intervals / time signatures / etc]. Is learning guitar the same thing? Or completely different? I've never touched a guitar in my life so I have no clue
@@BradleyHallGuitar Thanks Bradley. You're the best guitarist I've ever seen. You can play anything in any style at any speed. Your sweeping is legendary. I'd put you on the GOAT list along with Buckethead and EVH and Dimebag
