- Jakob Nowell for the first time covering his dad Bradley's Sublime together with members of Burritos at Alex's Bar in Long Beach 2022. What a hell of a night to support the Nowell Family Foundation!
Jake celebrated his 27th birthday surrounded by friends and family all in unison supporting a great cause with an unforgettable night of celebration of Bradley, Sublime and the Long Beach community with it's great place in music history. Jake even busted out his dad's guitar! Amazing an unforgettable evening. Thanks Dave Shea for going with me as well and celebrating our old friend who we both miss dearly. It's a joy to see Jake growing into a great person and musician, Brad would be very proud of his kid, he's looking down with a huge smile right now I'm sure of that!
Special thanks to Kellie Nowell, Jarett Orr not only for the invitation, but for all the work they all do to support a wonderful cause. Also the supporting cast of friends and family making a huge difference for a cause that is very close to my heart, no one likes losing a great friend like Bradley or anyone else to drugs or alcohol it sucks!

Inspired by late Sublime front man Bradley Nowell, the Nowell Family Foundation provides addiction recovery services to the music community through the combined strength of the industry and those who have been touched by the power of music.
The Nowell Family Foundation is raising funds to open Bradley’s House, a six-bed recovery facility that will provide treatment for people in the music industry with opioid addiction, regardless of their financial situation. The goal is to offer a top level of clinical care, including medical detox and the ability to treat the most acute cases, through nationwide partnerships.
For years, the Nowell family has sought ways to help others avoid the tragedy of drug overdose. While working with longtime family friend Todd “Z-Man” Zalkins, who helped Jakob Nowell (Bradley’s son) get clean and sober, the plan to create the Nowell Family Foundation evolved.
As Papa Nowell says, “We have finally found something we truly believe in doing - and that’s helping others who are struggling with addiction.”
Kellie Nowell (Bradley’s sister), who is actively involved as the executive director, is dedicated to the growth of the foundation and to ensuring its stability, allowing it to serve others for many years to come - Hudba

“I have no involvement with them. That was what Eric and Bud decided to do-and now Eric and Josh Freese and Rome - that’s their outfit. It’s obviously not the same Sublime and I don’t think that was the intent. They are all good musicians. They all just want to play and that’s their platform to play. I don’t think it’s wholly disrespectful but I choose to have no involvement in that project whatsoever. I remember this one time in high school; I must have been 14 or 15, and I’m at a friend’s house talking and another friend puts on this Sublime song and I think he’s being funny playing one of my dad’s songs and I look over and I see that it isn’t’ my dad singing the song, it’s Rome. It was just such a strange moment of disconnect. It was very emotional. I started to tear up and got real angry at him. That wasn’t fun to have to go through. The realization hit me that a whole generation won’t really know the difference.
Popular bands get new members all the time but my father was such an integral part of Sublime, that me and true fans and people who know that story separate Sublime With Rome from Sublime and I believe that Sublime With Rome separates themselves from Sublime enough to be respectful. I really can’t fault new fans for not knowing the difference. They’re great musicians and I believe they deserve to be doing something in some project and if it’s Sublime With Rome, then it’s Sublime With Rome, but I choose personally to have no involvement.”
As much as I would love to see that, I think he enjoys the freedom of doing his own thing...you have to remember his dad is a stranger to him. He knows Brad as much as we all do.

For a lot (millions) of people, Sublime was the soundtrack to the best time in their lives. Brad's voice was in peoples ear for hours every day. To hear that voice again live makes people deeply emotional. Jakob, you doing this gig shows a high level of kindness for people you don't even know. Even though you have your own thing going and it's great, Sublime fans deeply appreciate you doing this. This was like 1998 all over again for me. I could almost smell the Nag Champa.

I gotta say, turning 17ys. old back in May 25, 1996 was a very very sad, but party on and party hard day (truthfully party hard weekend being memorial "4-day" weekend!!) Im happy to have finally been able to listen to him sing sublime❤ he sounds so much like his dad and i love it. Rome rushes through the songs i feel, but Jakob doesnt rush like his dad.

I know 10 people personally who could capture Sublime's vibe better than Rome. 11 if you count me. I admit I've only seen a few vids but that's all I could take. It was like bad karaoke. The ultimate Sublime band: Jakob, Eric on bass, Marshall Goodman on drums, Opie on 2nd guitar, and various guests from the Sublime universe. I'd pay serious money to see that.

This kid can sing, hes got a mike patton/daryl palumbo thing going on where hes got so many ranges. He should be in an experimental hardcore band. I like the way hes switching it up having fun playing around with pitches and patterns.

Man seeing him perform his dad's songs is EPIC. Him strapping on his dads' Dan McDonald Custom "Brown" guitar is legendary. So happy to see him coming into his own music wise with LAW and his solo act.
Coming from the new Jakob + Sublime videos over the few days. Not gonna lie... the music and the vibes are way better with Burritos. Lots of respect to Bud and Eric but I think the music has a better chance of living on through this younger generation of musicians

Being born at Long Beach St. Mary's hospital, growing up in the area, Alex's bar and Long Beach is my stomping grounds. I grew up with this music. I spent time hanging out with RAS. I must say that watching this was quite an emotional experience. Jacob is terrifyingly good. The burritos are phenomenal!
If I had known this was happening, I would have driven to Long Beach to see it. I'd rather watch Jakob fronting a tribute band than see SWR. So great to watch, so much talent.

Who's the girl on bass? She's really good! Wish I could hear her a bit more clearly but that's how it goes with live stuff, the bass is often 'boomy' and seems to over-emphasize one note, or a narrow range of them.
