    Shout out to the dad in this movie, he goes through quite the character arch between the two movies from going to a disapproving alcoholic father to a really supportive and caring dad, it’s quite the transformation and a good use of Continuity

    This one held up well for me when i watched it a couple weeks ago, I actually kind of respected its handling of Freddys mom and the trauma/horrors of being a mother. And its a small detail but I also love Alice's dad returning and doing a complete 180 as a character. Not all of it works, but I am just so glad Yvonne lives

    One thing I love to pieces about this film is that it is YET ANOTHER horror movie wherein Kelly Jo Minter survives. In a genre notably unforgiving to its characters of Color, Minter holds the distinction of surviving not one, not two but THREE horror films (Nightmare 5, The People Under the Stairs and where she really shines, SPOILERS.............................Popcorn). This is was the era when Freddy also had his own TV show.. "FREDDY'S NIGHTMARES"... which was an anthology show that Freddy hosted like the Cryptkeeper.. the first episode (called No More Mr. Nice Guy) was about Freddy's backstory and stars Robert Englund as Fred during and after his botched trial.. might be worth a reaction (the other episodes are just hosted by but not about Freddy). Speaking of Robert, this was a really hard time for him, having to go from doing a TV show to doing this movie.. the workload and constant makeup application and removal really did a number on him.

The fact that Freddy targets his youngest prey in it is one thing ,but the gothic production design/setting and the actual reliving of Freddy's conception and birth was a TRIP! Interesting Facts about A Nightmare On Elm Street 5: The Dream Child (1989) The laughter heard at the end, right before the credits roll, is a clip of Vincent Price laughing at the end of Michael Jackson's song, "Thriller". Price's laughter is sampled at the beginning of Kool Moe Dee's song, "Let's Go", which is played during the film's end credits. (2) Stephen Hopkins was given just four weeks to shoot and a further four weeks to edit the film. This meant that he had to shoot on one stage while the crew dressed the other, so they could shoot almost continually. After he made it, the studio was so impressed, that he was given the task of directing Predator 2 (1990), which is strange, considering that this movie was released by New Line Cinema, and Predator 2 (1990) was released by the 20th Century Fox. (3) The famous song is changed. Original: One, two, Freddy's coming for you. Three, four, better lock your door. Five, six, grab your crucifix. Seven, eight, gonna stay up late. Nine, ten, never sleep again. Edited: One, two, Freddy's coming for you. Three, four, better lock your door. Five, six, grab your crucifix. Seven, eight, better stay awake. Nine, ten, he's back again... (4) The end credits song, "Let's Go" by Kool Moe Dee was actually a diss track to LL Cool J. The two rappers were feuding at the time this film was being made. (5) Lisa Wilcox's name appears on the opening credits, but not in the ending credits.

    This was not a direct-to-TV release, but due to the fact that it was so rushed after the success of Part 4, it could've and probably should've been lol. This movie got passed around the neighborhood and dubbed to blank VHS tapes once it hit the video stores, so that's where it made its money. Not the best, but it kinda represents the end of a special moment for kids who grew up in that era like myself. I loved Kelly Jo Minter as well, so that adds to it lol

    The Dream Child isn't a great Elm Street sequel, but as a stand-alone gothic supernatural horror movie, it almost works. I only revisit it for Alice, and believe that she's criminally underrated in the final girl discussion. Next is Freddy's Dead, which is still not so great, but a fun finale and semi-reboot made for the 90s crowd. Worth a watch before digging into New Nightmare, which returns a ton of the series' cast and crew in meta legacy sequel fashion that predates Scream. Perhaps Wes Craven's best original film.

    3, 4, 5 all go together. Kristen had the power to pull people into her dreams which she had full control over. In 4, before she’s killed, she gives Alice her power, who CANNOT control it. When Alice falls asleep, any one she’s close to who also falls asleep gets pulled into her nightmare. In 5, once she gets pregnant, the fetus who supposedly spends much of its development sleeping, is dreaming, anyone who Alice is close to who’s also asleep gets pulled into a nightmare. The problem with this movie is that it was conceived as a metaphor for fears of pregnancy. Like how the Babadook is a metaphor for mother hood. Everything that happens in the movie is a reflection of those fears. But it’s not something that much of the audience would relate to especially if you never had children. There is an extended release somewhere where the kills are slightly different. Like Greta ISNT Just stuffed full of food, Freddy actually begins to feed Greta her own insides.

    Wow this is actually my first time seeing this one. I kinda gave up on the series after Part 4 and i didn't hear good things about 5 or 6 so thanks for the entertaining cliff notes version! I do love that you're willing to sit thru knowingly bad movies. So few reactors do, as they just want the good stuff, but a few shit storms can help you appreciate the sunlight more!

      Nick J. Yes, you're right all 3 of those franchises only had theatrical releases I don't know who told Alanda otherwise about the nightmare films, I guess they must have been extremely confused because the only made for TV sequels to horror movies which I have seen or know of are "When a stranger calls back", "The Stepfather 3: fathers day" and "The Birds 2: Lands' End".

    This movie is definitely a guilty pleasure for me I have such a blast with this movie. Nightmare 3-5 were basically a dream trilogy and used religion to defeat Freddy (Holy water, reflection in a stained glass, and his mother who is a nun). Like the creativity these movies have for the dream sequences and kills is top tier. The next one however that is awful. Like no one talks about how Alice is the only final girl in this franchise to survive two encounters with Freddy which is a huge accomplishment in a franchise where survivors are usually killed.

    • @jenniferbayarea5748
      @jenniferbayarea5748 Před rokem

      Yess but I figured ANOES would’ve had religion involved anyways since Freddy is a demon and the cross falling on Nancy and the nun

    • @Ghostface1998
      @Ghostface1998 Před rokem

      @@jenniferbayarea5748 yeah but parts 3-5 really focused heavily on that side. The original and part 2 didn’t really deal with any of that. Plus it’s not like you can kill a spirit he’s already immortal the only way to actually beat him (or at least temporarily) was what happened in Freddy vs Jason like what the town people did until the teens/ that one cop ruined it. His defeats stand as the most creative of any horror icon.

    I'm actually writing an idea for either a animated movie or a game I'd like to see made called Freddy v Jason v Ash set in 1990 so it ignores Elm Street 6. It also has a fully resurrected (non deadite) Nancy Thompson Voiced by the actress Heather Langenkamp who becomes a love interest to Ash. For the first half of the story idea she has Amnesia not remembering who she is or who Freddy is or how she died. She becomes a badass the more she spends time with Ash. Ash also lives in a trailer Park like in the evil dead show and also works at value stop at the first part of the idea.
