- Hey everyone and welcome on board China’s largest airline; China Southern!
We’re flying on their B787-9 DreamLiner from their mega Guangzhou hub to Dubai.
A big thanks for joining!
All large Chinese carriers currently fly to Dubai and consistently offer the cheapest fares to/from China and Asia. I’ve always been a little skeptical as in my previous experiences I’ve alway felt a little lost and never really understood why certain things were done the way they were done..
One of them is the constant smell of cigarettes (Chinese pilots used to go nuts smoking in the cockpit), the lights would never switch off in the cabin, the seatbelt sign was never off and the IFE was bad.
But that has now all changed! (Except for the seatbelt sign 😂).
Other things remain a mystery, such as why I was served breakfast for dinner..

Due to the soaring prices of SQ and MH, many Bangladeshis are now using this airline to go to Australia. There are a lot of Bangladeshi people in Australia (comprising of students and other professionals) who mostly used SQ and MH back in the day. But nowadays, China Southern is very popular here among us.

@@TheLayoverAviation Once you get your Pakistani Visa sorted, Emirates has 7 daily flights from Dubai to Karachi, 3 operated by them and the other 4 are operated by their low-cost arm, flydubai, meaning that you can have excellent service on a 2-hour flight to Karachi 🇵🇰🇦🇪🇪🇸
The parking position is even geographically accurate😂😂. Love your vids. I literally watch them to the end❤❤. PS: I was on the same seat on an etihad flight from bom and the view is the best. 787 is a beauty with the the wing flex

I’m sure they would have loved it! But yeah, I don’t bring fresh food on flights. If anyone gets food poisoning it’s a big risk and on me. That’s why I also don’t bake them cakes and such.
In my business if anyone brings some fresh food or whatever I’ll tell my staff to kindly leave it for home as a recommendation. But industrial sweets should be safe.

Welcome to Guangzhou! Guangzhou T2 has domestic/international mixed use gates. That's why you needed to take the escalator down to the jet bridge. The gate can switch to connecting to the international level or domestic level depending on the flight. It used to be that the plane would be often parked at domestic concourse gates because of last leg or gate constraints and everyone would need to take a bus from international airside to domestic gate. Mixed gates have been pretty useful in this regard.

Can you review Air China next time Singapore to Beijing?
At the departures area at Taoyuan International Airport terminal 2 you have to go past check in desk number 2 and turn left to the lift after that you press the life to level 3 then you go staright and you see the viewing deck where you see planes take off and planes parked at the gate.

They do but I think people are a bit skeptical still to fly a Chinese carrier, they much rather fly the common known ones.

20:36 Production dates rather than expiration dates are generally specified on Chinese products, if they are targeting the domestic market. Shelf life is mentioned separately together with manufacturer qualifications, plant location, product specs, nutritional info, etc. This is really different from the rest of the world, and the only reason I can think of is because the math-savvy Chinese can figure out the expiration dates at a glimpse😅

It’s a great trip report from China, although the intro is lacked and so is the plane spotting music. I wish you to fly on SAS A350 and A320 from LAX - CPH - OSL in one video. Next fly OSL - ARN in another video. How’s that?
I had to remove those songs as a company is claiming rights to it (it’s not theirs) but they still manage to block my revenue for a very long time until CZcams investigates the issue. And that’s weekly so I got tired..

Great leg room good red /white wine did not see the hard section but guess with Chinese liking good wine I am not suprised at all - 2 meal service on a flight clean loos good entertainment system and moving map cant ask more - Wonder now Air China and other airlines in China are like .
I flew on their A350 from GZ to BKK. and it awesome! Probably a better hard product than many of the major carriers out there.
Yeah one of their daily flights is on the A350 with the others on smaller planes, glad you chose the big one!

Thanks for the video, Alex. Can you explain the siren-like sounds on the B787 after flap extension before taxi and before/during flap retraction when taxing to the terminal? Also kindly explain why hydraulic power to the flaperon is cut and then restored during the take-off roll. I have not watched many China (PRC) airline reviews and barring the expired yoghurt, I think they have good services and would not hesitate to fly on them. Yes, make more reviews if possible.
Cathay Pacific is a good airline also to try. The lounge is good.

Another reason might be that producers are harder to lie about the dates. Because if a manufacture date later than today is printed, that must be fake.
When you get off the plane at Taoyuan International Airport you have to pass anorther security check. Level one is arrivals area. You have to go up the moving stairs to the gates.

In China, they use Meters as an unit for altitude, that's probably why cruise alt was unusual 32,100 ft
The China Airlines lounge in Taoyuan International is awesome and the food is good. In the lounge they also have soy milk you can also try. And they also have braised beef noodles.

6:29, Same when I flew Japan airlines, Boeing 787-9 in June of 2022 from Narita to Manila, flight is good and okay, 4 hours, I don't mind the zany sound.

Yes I did get home on time! It usually takes me less then an hour to leave an aircraft until getting home in Dubai, so I was home by 19:30 😃

Love the review. Really hope the three Chinese carriers remain the same and dont try to become like Cathay/SQ/MH etc. For the price one pays they deliver an amazing product. Took Air China long haul last year with a transit in Beijing from Melbourne. Flights were amazing, crew professional, food decent and price was really cheap. They even gave us free transit to from airport and hotel because we had a transit of more than 16 hours on the way back. While others have a better service the price is not worth it or becomes too expensive for a family.
They’re cheap indeed. And for what you get it’s very much worth it.

21:24 what does he mean by “shortcut and fly straight in”?
Each flight plan to Dubai includes some sort of holding or pattern by default. Flying straight in means that the tower cancels that very long pattern and you just fly directly to the runway. It saves up to 30 minutes or more!

In China, food is always labelled with the manufactured date, not the expiration date. There is a fixed "shelf period" printed on the label. We add them by our brain and compare with the current date.

Greetings from Manila. 26:36, That's my Philippine airlines, Airbus A330-300 plane that I am flying today from Manila to Dubai, I have a 3 hour connection, before flying flyDubai to Tel Aviv for vacation.
Greetings. Last Tuesday, I flew Philippine airlines, Airbus A330-300 in economy class for the 1st time from Manila to Dubai, flight is almost full and flight is good and okay, 8 and a half hours.
Before my flight, I was looking forward to fly Philippine airlines, Airbus A330-300 in the newer cabin with in flight entertainment and 2-4-2 configuration in economy class. But unfortunately, once I enter the plane, I realize were flying the high density configuration (RP-C8782) in a very tight 3-3-3 economy class with no in flight entertainment TV and I was disappointed for a 8 and a half hour to Dubai.
My experience, good, pillow, blanket, amenity kit, hot towel and 2nd full hot meal is appreciated, 1st meal, choice of chicken with rice or beef, I went with the chicken with rice, it taste good and okay, not the best.
Pro, pillows and blankets are waiting in my seat, which is good and appreciated on a long haul flight, cup holder is appreciated if I don't want to hold the cup of water for too long, they have universal power outlet underneath every 3 seat, which is good to charge my tablet and laptop, after takeoff, the crew give out amenity kit (include toothbrush, toothpaste, eye shade or eye mask and socks, which is highly appreciated on a long haul flight) in economy class, which is super rare there days. I recline my seat and it's good, in the lavatory, they have paper cup, but too small, which is good to rinse my mouth and brush teeth, 2 hours before landing, for the 1st time, the crew hand out hot towel in economy class, which is super rare these days, good to freshen up and appreciated, and a 2nd full hot meal on a 8 and a half hour long haul flight, wow, choice of chicken with rice or beef, I went with the chicken with rice, it taste good and delicious, better than the 1st meal.
Con, no in flight entertainment TV for a 8 and a half hour flight to Dubai, seat width is not good than 17 inches, almost not enough shoulder room to share with my seatmate, legroom is not good, 30 inches (I am 5'7) when I recline, it's almost worse, no air vent (except row 66 to 68) on a 8 and a half hour flight to Dubai, making the cabin a little warm, I went to some lavatory, water for washing hands is not working (until I ask the crew to fix the broken water (it's not leaking water) for washing hands in the lavatory and it's fix) (Thanks), and instead of silverware, it's wooden spoon, fork and breadknife, which I don't like because it can break easily.
Things that wow me and made my day, after takeoff, the crew give out amenity kit (include toothbrush, toothpaste, eye shade or eye mask and socks, which is highly appreciated on a long haul flight) to everyone in economy class, which is super rare there days, a hot towel, 2nd full hot meal (2 hours before landing) on a 8 and a half hour and the chicken with rice taste good and delicious, better than the 1st meal.
Improvement, refurbished 3-3-3 configuration in economy class to 2-4-2, refurbished older plane that has the high density configuration, install in flight entertainment TV and air vent for everyone, make the seat width 18 inches, which is normal and little wide, legroom of 32 to 34 inches and provide silverware spoon, fork and bread knife, instead of wooden, which I don't like because it can break easily.
My rating, 3 to 3.5/5 star (Reason is on all information description).

Starlux, Eva Airways and China Airlines at Taiwanese airlines next time you can try.
Most Western aviation vloggers these days compete by reviewing flights on Indian airlines to attract the massive internet user base in India, despite the fact that most flights in India are average and uneventful. The same would likely be true for China if it had unrestricted access to internet content. There is a notable lack of comprehensive videos on CZcams covering first and business class reviews of Chinese airlines. I'm glad to see your video at least on an economy class flight. I would cover some flights myself, but it's really difficult for me to get a Chinese visa.
China is offering 24/144 hrs transit visas for citizens of certain countries this year, provided that you are transiting through Mainland China to a third country and/or region (which includes Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan), and that you restrict you activities within China to the city you landed in and approved nearby provinces. This could serve as a window period to try Chinese airlines visa-free, and would love to see someone covering experiences on premium classes.
How does it compare to Air China?
Miss the old music - please bring it back!
Some company is claiming the music is theirs while it isn’t. And it takes me lots of email and complaints to sort our the issue with CZcams on a weekly basis so I got tired of it. Sorry 😔

20:32 Haha, I think the date was the production date, not the 'best before' date, as it‘s the common way in China. Also, like most other major Chinese airports, CAN's passenger numbers in 2024 are still growing, it‘s already higher than world‘s No.10 I think.

The material and use of it. Some other airlines offer nice and elegant ones.
Regarding that security guy on board, let me elaborate more on that. There's only one of them, I have taken many flights with cz airline and there's always one. Also they are not going around pointing camera at your face, so calm down. That guy is there for your safety, it's not a con. Please leave honest review and not biased one
