So sad so many of the great ones arenât here with us anymore.
That goes with everything music, television, sports, writing, storytelling, acting.. This generation is too busy making tiktoks, abusing filters and arguing that a man can become pregnant. We both have the same amount of time on earth đ°ïž people back then just knew how to make use of that..
My boyfriend at the time's father was the head of the graphics department for the company that printed the tickets for these huge events (when they still did that). As a perk, he got tickets to all of these events, Superbowl, AFC/NFC championships, All Star games, NHL, NBA, World Series, etc. He went to several events, taking his family with him, when they would go. His wife decided not to go to the Superbowl that year, so his son took me.
And as a sidenote, I went to the victory tour at Arrowhead as well.

Legendary Performance: đ„đ„đ„đ„Reaction. I wasnât there in person but watched it live on TV. I lost my mind that day cause up to that point the only halftime show you saw was high school or college bands performing.
I remember watching this on tv. I was blessed to see MJ live in concert twice. The second time I was on the front row. #Legend

It literally was just another Concert for him and he knocked it out the park and he has The Greatest Superbowl Halftime Show Performance Of All Time! Not one of Thee Greatestđđœđđđ„đ(Before this it was Figure Skating,Gloria Estefan,And Kids Singing About Frosty The Snowman In MC Hammer Style Pants You Have MJ to thank for everyone other performance that came after him they offered him $1Million Dollars to do it and he declined until they negotiated with him that all the proceeds from his performance will go to charities and his own âHeal The World Foundationâ then he accepted MJ is just on another stratosphere PERIOD! Btw executives wanted MJ to do sum of his bigger songs like Smooth Criminal or Thriller etc. but those songs didnât have a message so he did sum throwbacks and then did his new tracks like Black Or White & Heal The World he said this Performance needs to have a message,and not just be another performance etc. it needs to be about âHealing The Worldâ which makes this SuperBowl Performance standout from any other SuperBowl performances the others donât have a true pure message like MJâs his does and he killed it and yes itâs true his Performance was viewed more than the football game itself)

I had the immense good fortune to see MJ live quite a few times starting at 4 years old when he was still in the Jackson 5, then at 12 (Destiny), 14 twice (Triumph), 17 twice (Victory, front row center at Dodger Stadium once; he threw me the shirt he ripped off of Randy). And I flew home to L.A. from college in Tennessee TWICE to be in the first 10 rows for the last two dates of the Bad Tour in '89 (he got sick in November and the shows were rescheduled for January). And in the biggest luck-out in all of human history, I got to spend 5 days at Neverland in 2002 and see him be a regular dad. (Chris Tucker was a friend from before he was famous and we called ourselves "working" on some creative stuff - I'm a writer - but I'm sure no one will be surprised when I say that we didn't accomplish much; there was just too much fun to be had!). Btw, the 80's was a great time to be a teenager if you loved music. I got to see Prince many times over the years too (got my first contact high during the 1999 Tour in '83 lol, and got on stage one of the 6 times I saw the Purple Rain tour in '85; also saw him in '86, '88, and three times when he did all of his old stuff in 2011). My first job was in a record store that had a Ticketmaster, so going to concerts was just something that we did on a regular basis because the tickets weren't expensive at all back then (we thought $25 was steep lol; the "Purple Circle" seats - 3rd row center - that allowed us to get picked to dance onstage were $100 though, and that was a LOT for a teenager making minimum wage in 1985).

I loved Michael, I just always felt bad for him because he was never happy with himself, he was always so unsure and changing his looks all the time! Those people would have been there regardless of Michael, it was the SUPERBOWL! I've never been to a Superbowl game. And I wouldn't go because of the half-time show. If I did though it would be to see someone like Charlie Daniels or Hank Williams Jr. But the point is moot because there are way too many people for me to go to something like that!

Same super bowl had Garth Brooks do the national anthem and debut "We shall be Free". Garfff actually walked out right 45 mins before TV didn't want to play video of song bc it showed scenes from LA riots and was to violent. Garff won and world got to Garff and Mike on same night

Of course nowadays they could probably make this show more better (with modern lighting and pyro etc) and that's exactly what Beyonce and the rest are now doing, but they needed a gauge to measure against and MJ obviously was it. Yes he could of made it more visual etc but what all these modern charts never mention is the records this show broke, the impact it had, how literally everything MJ created or started ended up working and being a 'thing'. What also people fail to mention on every single reaction is the MESSAGE he was saying.
