DL is correct about the 'Crit does not scale with crit thing'.
If I AA 100 times with 0% crit I will crit 0 times.
If I AA 100 times with 20% crit I will crit 20 times. So 20% crit gave me 20 more crits.
If I AA 100 times with 40% crit I will crit 40 times. So again getting 20% more crit made me crit 20 more times.
AD scales additive with AD and Crit scales additive with Crit, but they scale multiplicative with eachother. Which means the more crit you have the more value AD have and the more AD you have the more value crit have.
With 100 AD the averege dmg per auto with 0% crit will be:
100 * 1 + 100* 1.75 * 0 = 100
and the averege dmg with 20% crit will be:
100 * 0.8 + 100*1.75*0.2 = 115
while the averege dmg with 20 more AD will be:
120 * 1 + 120* 1.75 * 0 = 120
So in that case 20 ad is worth more.
But if we take 200 ad with 0 crit:
200 * 1 + 200 * 1.75 * 0 = 200
And then do the same math with 20% crit vs 20 ad we get:
200* 0.8 + 200*1.75*0.2 = 230
220* 1 + 220 * 1.75 * 0 = 220
As we can see when we double the AD the crit was also double the value (from 15 -> 30) while the AD value stayed the same (20 -> 20), this is what additive scaling vs multiplicative scaling is. The math changes a bit with I.E. as crit gets more flat value (at 100 AD, 20% crit will have a value of 22) but the overall concept stays the same (At 200 AD 20% crit will have 44 value). (I know I.E only incerases crit at 60%, just used the same numbers to illustrate the effect better.)
All of this means that when Tristana bought the cloak she had around 165 AD (Looking at items + champ) and 35% crit which is on averege:
165 * 0.65 + 165* 1.75 * 0.35 = 208
Same math with 15% crit vs 20 AD
165 * 0.50 + 165* 1.75 * 0.5 = 226
185 * 0.65 + 185* 1.75 * 0.35 = 233 (Also increases kraken dmg with 0.4 * 20 = 8 every 3 AA)
So here the 20 AD is worth more. So you really should not buy crit cloak, stall your B until you can buy PD which is 850 gold, I guess you can buy crit cloak (Sneaky's point) if you really need to base/died and only have 600 g but it's not as strong so try to wait. The next item should also be AD so Pickaxe or BF.
For reference, at those stats a 15% crit cloak is worth about the same as 14 AD.

I agree with you completely on the math, but with the context of the game and his recall timing i think he made the correct buys. He had about 890 gold when he recalled 2 mins before dragon was spawning. It’s likely G2 was calling to reset since they had 2 members dead and they wanted to be ready for drag when it spawned. Flakked bought a longsword, sold his refillable pot, and bought the crit cloak for 950. If he wanted pd it would have cost him 350 + 850 = 1200 which he couldnt have safely farmed up (most of his team was dead or recalling) and still been on time for dragon (would have needed at least 2 minion waves which he would have to farm after his team got back on the map.
Alternatively, he could have called for his team to delay their recalls and let him get pd for a delayed drag fight but it seems like Flakked just wasnt playing well and likely didnt think to make this kind of call. They either didnt think jdg would go for rift herald and decided they needed to be up tempo on dragon and recalled earlier for it or they were just willing to trade prio on dragon for rift herald which is kinda what happened. If Flakked just said screw it to his team and stayed on map and farmed, he actually could have gotten enough for pd but jdg would have rift herald and prio on dragon which would have been super troll on Flakked’s part.
The difference in AD is so negligible though that the extra 15% chance to crit is actually worth a lot more in practice than what the theory shows.

Great math--but I think the real issue in the game that the crit cloak torpedoed his lead by delaying his second item until Kalista had finished hers. Trist buys the cloak at 15 minutes (with drag already down and the team already giving herald), and instead of farming 250g and completing PD, he spends the next 5 minutes grinding back a full 850 and still only has 1 item and a bag of scraps when dragon spawns at 18.
I could understand if he wanted to beef up as much as possible for a pending critical objective fight or something, but the man sold his pot to buy a crit cloak (so you're losing the heal from that as well) and then went mid to farm.
(e: it was a reusable he sold, not a Doran. The point's still the same.)
I havent watched a second of worlds... other than THE TRISTREAM! this is the best thing about league.

Imo conceptually DL is correct about the crit/AD argument. Crit does not scale with crit (adding 20% more crit does not exponentially scale your damage), but AD and crit scale with each other (adding more AD makes you crit harder and adding more crit makes that boosted AD crit more), which makes crit cloak a worse deal compared to AD. Going from 40->55% crit increases your average damage from (0.6 + 0.4*1.75) = 1.3x average damage per auto to (0.45 + 0.55*1.75) = 1.4125x average damage per auto. But if we take 20 AD as a percentage of the ADC's AD and compare by saying (0.4*(1+x) + 0.6*1.75*(1+x)) = 1.4125 and convert to find the break point where crit would give you more, it turns out that you need to have over 231+ AD (which a lvl 12 Trist with Kraken + PD does not have) for 15% crit to provide a larger relative damage increase than 20 AD. Of course this does not take into account champ-specific scalings and such, but I feel like AD is a more generally beneficial stat anyway on top of being a better straight damage increase. However, I do think the Trist made the right call here since they clearly couldn't complete the PD and wanted as much power as possible to fight.

The first podcast talk reminds me of when I continued my degree and one of my group members on a project told me to "say less" after I explained something to him, and I had never heard that before, so I took that to mean he was telling me to stop talking, as in "speak less frequently". I spoke to him one on one afterwards and asked him why he was being rude to me after I answered his question. It was then that I realized three years is a very long time.

For anyone wondering about the crit cloak vs double long sword after 2 items argument I tested it with Tristana with the same runes as Flakked at lvl 12 in practice mode vs a target dummy with 2500 hp and 100 armor/mr. I kept the test at 5 autos + E as Doublelift suggested and also 10 autos without E.
On average Doublelift's build (2 long swords) did ~100 more dmg on the 5 auto+E test while the Sneaky (agility cloak) build started outperforming at around 8-9 autos depending on the crits. So they are pretty comparable but keep in mind that double long sword is 100g more expensive and also locks you into going Lord Dominik's Regards 3rd while if you buy the crit cloak you can either complete IE or LDR depending on how the game is going and how much armor stacking there is on the enemy team!

It's pointless maths anyway because the argument isn't about the maths. It devolved *into* an argument about the maths, but it actually doesn't matter if a BF+ Pickaxe is better than a cloak + BF mathematically.
Why not? Because Flakked was never on a BF + cloak, and doing damage that would change the game. This whole argument about how terrible it's going to be for his next recall, took place when Flakked already had a full inf edge, and he bought that on the same recall that he would buy the BF+ pickaxe. He barely autod an enemy champion in that entire time period. It changes nothing. Zero.
Flakked bought what he could before the dragon fight, to be as strong as he could for it. He didn't have time to wait for a better recall to get full PD. Nothing happened after that dragon fight that him having a PD would influence. That means you can't say he wasted his gold and delayed his second item in any meaningful way.
You can't be mad he bought a crit cloak, and trying to win the argument by turning it into a mathematical discussion about optimal damage at different gold amounts/ recall timings is just nonsense.

For the 'ARGUMENT' @ 1:33:33 where DL poses double Longsword versus Sneaky's Crit Cloak stance... DL is correct, double Longsword will consistently outdo Crit Cloak by 7% damage output. Regarding G2 Flakked's Tristana build at their reference point, the double Longsword outputs 47.5 to 54.5 MORE damage per second / 4s burst than would building a Crit Cloak after taking into account the entirety of Tristana's kit and the mathematical scaling associated with her autos/abilities. DL is correct, sorry Sneaky.

Each point of crit remains the same value no matter what how much you already have. I'd like to say the same for flat AD but I'm not 100% sure. (It feels like as you get more AD each point matters less as it's a smaller percentage increase to your total.)
What I do know is that they scale with each other. AD is more valuable the more crit you have, and crit is more valuable the more AD you have.
As meteos touched on briefly, there have to be breakpoints where one is more valuable than the other depending on your stats at the time, but most of the time it's going to be AD since crit is so easy to find on items you want as an adc.
During the specific case they were discussing, I'd probably guess DL was (unusually) correct in saying 20 AD for 700g > 15% crit for 600g. Someone good at maths will have to prove that, though.

Ive heard that league makes crit more likely to happen when you arent criting as much but im not sure how true that was.
more crit (at around what sneaky said 40-60%)gives more consistent damage compared to the ad that 2 long swords provide.

DL said "I would not want a crit cloak as a start of my third item.", in no point of this sentence DL said he thinks getting more crit is bad to the champ, he just disagree that delaying PD by buying a suboptimal starting item for third item (IE/LDR) would be a good choice, even with the exact amount of leftover gold for a crit cloak. But for whatever reason Sneaky thought DL said getting more crit is bad.
And then the math part is even more chaotic cuz Sneaky pretty much quit trying to understand. Each point of crit legit give the same amount of damage with the same AD base, the first 10% and the last 10% crit still increases expected damage output by 10% of your AD. Although DL is explaining with very simply explanation, he is still making total sense, but Sneaky is just quite literally only saying NO IM NOT LISTENING TO YOU. Here's the numbers with the scenario of having 200 AD 40% crit, you will be doing 282.5 expected damage if you purchase a crit cloak (+15% crit, 200*1.75*0.55+200*0.45), while you'd do 286 expected damage if you purchase 2 long swords (+20AD, 220*1.75*0.4+220*0.6).
It's funny though, love both of them. Not really tryna judge who's better than who. Just giving a translation of the super messy scenario there.

I just wanted to address dl's comment about feeling like shit and being tired from exercising. Exercise does not make you feel like shit, but it does expose flaws in your sleep/diet/caffeine intake. If you sleep well, moderate your caffeine intake and eat decently, exercise will not make you feel like shit. It will make you tired, yes, but if you develop a proper sleep schedule, which means sleeping ENOUGH and on a CONSISTENT schedule, you will recover fine so long as you don't overdo it.
And the benefits from exercise far far far outweigh the drawbacks of needing to maintain a proper sleep schedule and eat a bit better. Especially for middle aged and older men. Starting at 30 men lose 3-5% muscle mass EVERY year. The only way to counteract this is through resistance training (THAT MEANS WEIGHTS) and upping protein intake. When done right exercising actually makes you feel better. You look better. You are stronger, better endurance, better libido, more confidence, clothing fits better, better sleep and I haven't even mentioned the host of medical benefits that come with losing weight and building muscle.
Like many people the pandemic dumped my exercise routine into the toilet and I was only very recently able to make a comeback from the slob I'd become. I can pick up my kids without issue, walk up and down stairs without being as winded or my knees aching, no more sleepless/restless nights. I'm doing better at work, better at home, am able to perform better as a father and husband. It doesn't require an expensive gym membership or personal trainer, grab a set of dumbbells for the cost of a single microtransaction and start putting in work. Squats, lunges, deadlifts, bent over rows, upright rows, push press, side raise, curls, overhead extensions. Throw in some pushups and crunches - DO NOT neglect your core. There's tons of youtube vids, form & timing is everything, GO LIGHT in the beginning to avoid injury. Talking 5 lbs or less in each hand, you're not trying to be tyler1 you are starting a personal fitness journey.
League is fun, the tri vods are amazing, but don't fuck around with exercise. This is your life, you only live it once, might as well live it right.
I didn't really understand him saying he feels like he is playing bad because he is tired from exercise. I feel great after I exercise. Even if I haven't done it for a while. When I'm working out it's hard obviously, and if I really push myself I can get exhausted like anyone else but after a warm down and a little rest, it's great. Way better and more sharp than when I am not exercising.
It's a bit disappointing he would frame it in a negative light considering he probably has a lot of young viewers who already don't exercise often, and haven't seen the full negative repercussions of neglect because their bodies are still young.
Keep exercising guys. Every day. If you can move it, you should. "Don't use it, you lose it" is very real. You can do permanent damage to your organs and muscles by being a gaming chair gremlin for too long. Take care of yourselves.

NA's main problem being their laning phase is something a lot of analytical pundits (Like LS, nor like Reddit and me) have been preaching in some form or the other for decades it seems. Some people say it is us having weak mechanics, some say it is us having poor match-up understanding but fundamentally it all comes back to we cannot go up against an eastern team without having deficits in multiple lanes post 15 minutes. When it comes to macro decisions, I think quite a few western teams have actually been leagues ahead of our eastern contemporaries, but it's almost impossible to win with superior macro when your opponents can simply outstat you through massively unfavorable situations and, worse yet, outfinger you out of what should be small victories.
And Eastern players had been saying it for years too. NA/EU are good at team fighting, playing together and around each other, but how can you win when you're getting outdated because mediocre laning phases.
All fights western teams take are always in disadvantages with one less item and level/xp

That slang comes from new york, namely the brooklyn and bronx boroughs not one race that uses it there. I will say, “what's brackin" comes from the bloods gang who don't say the c's in words as to oppose the crips, so I could see why people think it's strange when people who have no gang ties use the word, I honestly doubt anybody was offended in real life. I'm more on Sneaky's side. I don't think it's "sad behaviour" at all lol. There is too much focus on the crit cloak in general by Meteos and Doublelift. The play is what mattered, not spending 600g or not.
It's not just "basic maths" either. You can't buy anything else that goes towards your items with 600g. He can't complete the phantom dancer on that base. The argument is, should he spend the gold to buy a crit cloak and long sword, or should he buy only a pickaxe, or should he sit on 600g and do nothing with it. Expecting to be able to back on enough gold to complete the PD, and wanting to be as strong as possible coming out of base, buying the crit cloak and longsword is correct.
Doublelift can be tilted at him for bad macro, Sneaky can be tilted at him for not playing to his win con and being scared to jump in on the enemy, but nobody should even be talking about the crit cloak. Buying a component for your next item (when you can't afford the combine cost and you're going to complete it on the next base anyway) is a super normal thing to do.
Literally watch again and doublelift talks about how he's "locked into crit cloak for his next base so he will never afford BF+ pickaxe" meanwhile in game the tristana already has full inf edge lol. It's such a meaningless argument to say he shouldn't buy the crit in that situation, actually. DL is just trying to be right/ sound smart and not actually thinking

i dont think any of the tricast are gonna see this but i wanna put it out there - in terms of aave, the biggest argument i've heard is that Black people get punished (by being judged as bad at english or unprofessional, for example) for using aave while others are thought of as cool when using it. it goes with code switching, sort of. it's up to yall to decide what you think abt it but i do think it's important to have all the info before taking a stance

AAVE is also known as Ebonics, it’s basically the way black ppl talk. Words can have different meanings based on how u use them, think how rappers call attractive girls “bad.” That’s not what it means in its general sense, and using it in that context started in the black community

Edit: To clarify: it is not reasonably possible for me to cover 7 hours of video (this includes every pre- and post-game) into daily uploads. I need 2-3 days per game day. These videos are bound to be delayed relative to Worlds 2022 considering they are playing daily.
