Chroma has always been an interesting Warframe, showing us what a dragon like frame can be in game. He's had a wild ride over the years from slaying the eidolons to milking the Profit Taker of all her credits. Despite this Chroma has had a flawed kit since the very beginning, so today we dive into the world of this dragonborn and see what Chroma is all about.

Ah Chroma, this dragon will always have a special place in my heart for the being the frame that drew me into warframe and heck even made me find out about the game in the first place, I do so hope he eventually gets his kit taken a look at because his concept is criminally underused I’m my opinion.

Should have covered the newest bug patched recently in circuit with the new decree(fortified will) which grants str with armor. While chroma is using elemental ward to increase armor, his str also increase his armor. Creating an infinite loop of infinite str to itself and other warframes. Hitting damage cap with anything

I've NEVER gotten Chroma in the Circuit or Duviri.
Its not surprising but i was literally running in public and saw a chroma and wondering why is everyone doing do much damage
And then i ran a setup with my friends where one chroma and some others frames with roar and thermal sunder and absolutely clapped everything
@@loggh552 Thermal sunder and roar (or you want maximum funni, play it on rhino) have some absolutely ridiculous scaling when paired together.
It dips the initial direct hit, the multiplier per subsequent cast, the final 2 heat dot.
A normal 200 400 800 1600 3200 6400 sequence on a thermal cast can suddenly become 400 1200 3600 10800 32400 97200 with just a 100% roar, that's probably the main reason why rhino is an unexpected top tier nuke in eso even after wave 14, every nuke falls off and he'd still be thriving hard.
You can even get ~10x per subsequent cast once torment twofold is in play, level 2k armored enemies dies like nothing in 2-3 slaps.
It's pretty broken though, and it's some dark rhino technology unknown by 99% of rhino players... (except me I guess... Everyone so onto the 3mil iron skin hp kekw)
@@amolistic_ dont think you have to calculate if the roar is 50k ish percent(not that i dont want it to go higher but the game resist from getting to 100k and above). It’s absolutely ridiculous and you can actually have too much armor to not have iron skin. The iron skin just wont trigger. My friend has made it to 400 quintillion. But the armor itself is more than enough to health tank.
I think a short talk about the impact that "Special Nodes" have had on the economy and such of Warframe would be interesting. Stuff like how The Index streamlined Credits, Arbitrations, and Sanctuary Onslaught. I'm singling these out because they are a trio with unique rewards worth long term investment even after "getting everything", a contrast to things like Mirror Defense where you get Citrine's stuff and move on.

I remember his glory days. When the damage boost would make any weapon a pocket nuke. Max range scoliac with og maiming strike was absolutely crazy. 10m-1b damage slide red crits😢
Those Volt speed buff runs were such a meme and the Ivara zipline defense strat. Love the thumbnail, I run the prime skin by default with some low-profile attachments. Title should've been "How Chroma Vex Armors Your Crosshair with them SHOULDURRSSSS"

Man, no matter how much I hate running with chroma due to how tedious it is to get the damage buffs, I still love playing around with him in solo endurance runs. Great video man, keep it up!
Also, I'm looking forward on your Khora video and how she became one of the cornerstone frames for endurance runs, and uhh... how she's a pain to farm years ago

It'd be neat if 4 simply allowed Chroma to go into his whole dragon theme and unleash a gigantic ball of fire or functionally be his 1 in one big burst of DPS that could potentially bolster his Vex Armor by taking damage BUT giving you more buff value in return. Alternatively enemies hit by that 4 cumulatively builds it but whatever. Chroma won't be getting any visits soon when Inaros, Atlas, and Hydroid exist and could use some help moreso than Chroma.
I think I know what could fix Chroma: fix effigy. The Guided Effigy augment is nice and all, making Effigy work a bit like Sevagoth's 1. But if Effigy flew around on its own normally and the augment caused it to go where you pointed, that would be a big big buff
Or better yet have the ability to activate the effigy with chroma still in it, so you can fly around and rain elemental hellfire on your enemies, kind like Titania but cooler

I don't know if it's the grind on video making or your feelings on the frame, but this felt a bit more critical and a bit of a downer in some parts. I know a lot of content shipped bugged and stuff was bugged, but the reporting felt low-key personal?

Chroma should get the hidden passive that Excalibur Umbra has when in operator mode, the Warframe is able to move around and fight with you. This would make sense lore wise and would give him more utility when in operator mode. His spectral scream should do damage that scales with enemy health. His effigy should get a ranged fireball attack to damage enemies further away (similar to the drone eximus)
I love watching your videos, and give me great insights on things I never knew about Warframe. My brother (who rarely plays Warframe, despite how much I ask him too) LOVED Chroma designwise since he's a sucker for dragons. Despite his niche uses, I think when my brother gets Chroma or Chroma Prime he is going to have a load of fun despite Chroma having some meh abilities.
And if your wondering, I'm a Sevagoth sucker and when I get him I am going to main him and Nidus (whom I have the prime varient for).
Fingers crossed Chroma can get a rework down the line. I ended up getting him at one point because Chroma Prime was cheep as hell on the market. I love the idea that he can specialize in different roles (though it’s mostly just tanking with different flavors) based on the element you imbue him with. The bonus mobility from his passive is somewhat humorous, but also fun to play with. I LOVE the idea of a draconic warframe, but our boy needs some SERIOUS TLC.
My ideas for a fix, just for fun.
Spectral Scream:
-Hold cast fires a ball of concentrated (selected element), damaging enemies in the way, travels based on duration, but dissipates upon hitting a wall. Basically: built-in Steflos.
Elemental Ward:
-Grants your active element’s bonus to allies in affinity range, instead of in a radius that’ll just get nuked by the way you’re building Chroma anyways.
Vex Armor:
-Consumes your shields for a large leap in armor (scales with strength)
-Starts with a damage boost, and said boost increases when taking damage (boost and the potency of the ramping increase with strength) (Maybe there’d be a stack system, where you can build the damage higher based on strength, but only get a maximum of stacks like 10 or 50?)
Effigy:
-Removed armor penalty (or at least HEAVILY reduced)
-Enhanced Parkour ability while active
-Tap/Hold variance!
-Tap: Places Effigy
-Hold: Effigy becomes a pet, chasing down and attacking enemies within a radius of you.
-Increased potency in general, or maybe make it an exalted equipment that can be modded!
-And give it a shield+health pool (if needed to rein in the rest of the bonuses)
-It WILL benefit from your other abilities’ effects while active.
I think Chroma should levitate/fly when holding 4.

I gave up on Chroma getting a rework. Like ever... it's been so many years since the last rework and I doubt DE gives two shit about chroma. They double neutered him and gave him no buffs whatsoever. I think it gives me more peace to just accept that DE has a massive hate boner for Chroma and would rather remove him from the game than do anything positive for him.
The triburos stug only run shows the stug doing self damage post removal of it I believe
Always been a big fan of chroma, never got a chance to play him "pre nerf", but i still enjoy him all the same, i agree when people say that his 1st and 4th require a rework,
but i still find that with the right type of build and understanding of how chroma works he can absolutely pull his weight and bring amazing supporting buffs to the team as well as reliably handling any content there is in Warframe.
Sure other frames can do what he does better in some way or another but warframe is amazing for its diverse choice and freedom of weapon and frame choices and they you build them. so it really comes down to how you enjoy to play and using what tickles your fancy.

I have two ideas for chroma to be more fun
1- If Effigy is on the Field, his 1 should be channeled through the effigy's mouth.
2- The Effigy has Chroma Aura, buffing everyone near it.
You can melee whilst in his 1 being active , heat is actually kinda decent just wish it had true beam status like more than 1 a sec

Chroma is my main. I agree that he needs a rework, but I have quite a build for him:
I subsume Pillage on him, use Electric for his element, put all power strength mods on him plus Steamline (but still have negative efficiency due to Blind Rage), use Corrosive Projection, add Archon Stretch for energy, put Arcane Energize and Steadfast on him, and there you have it!
A CCing, armor stripping, area damage buffing, shield-gating Dragon with infinite survivability!

One thing i haven't seen a lot of mention of is reloading the Hema from empty and switching while using synth mods will drain all health but maxes out vex armour
Doesn't work anymore since Hema was patched, and you only need to lose 100HP to gain the max Fury bonus, so just firing a few rounds is enough to max it out (when it did work)
Now its just Combat Discipline.

WELL ACthUaLLy- jkjk you can actually though use his energy colours to electric to actually make use of Archon Stretch to have an always energy regen passive that does make the skinshedding or ward much more energy efficient.
Nova I’m begging you: PLEASE do one on Equinox. It is impossible to find a video that talks about peak modified builds that require the use of 2-3 abilities of hers in addition to a subsumed ability. There aren’t any videos that show how to play Equinox in a way that’s FUN

IMO the only thing you should have talked more about were AoE/Meta weapons.
Chroma was the supreme weapon platform for a long time and while most people
slapped the Zarr and Bramma on their Wukong because it was so braindead, Chroma was arguably
the Nr. 2 warframe to slap these room clearing monsters on and just go Terminator mode on a survival mission.
Apart from that, great video man, please never stop making these.

I used to grind this game in middle school in the mid to late 2010s, I wasn’t ready for the massive updates this game has gotten since then😂
the main issue for the vex armor aswell is that it creates dimminishing returns for dmg mods aswell unlike rhino and others ones with multiplicitive effects. so sometimes its just better to not even mod in a DMG mod in your weapon ironicly lolol
Like some other Warframes, I had a rework idea for Chroma but unlike the others I didn't have it saved to a Document so bare with me. I do believe he does need a rework as he's very awkward nowadays.
Passive
While Chroma has his pelt on, he gains bonus armor. After shedding his pelt, he loses the armor for more move speed and damage.
Effigy
Chroma sheds his pelt for a sentinel styled companion that follows him around, dealing whatever elemental damage he has active at that time. It's like before but there is no energy drain and is more like Celestial Twin. Augment would allow it to perform Spectral Roar with Chroma.
Elemental Ward
Chroma can swap between the four Elements on tap. Holding the button creates an aura that provides buffs to teammates and Chroma. The buffs are what the original buffs but the aura is different. They are large circles like Harrow's Thurible that apread that element status to enemies inside. Augment would remain the same.
Vex Armor
Chroma builds up Scorn and Fury by dealing damage, gaining Scorn when his pelt is on and Fury when it's shedded. Instead of having a duration, this becomes a channeled ability. Augment would allow The Effigy to benefit from the buffs as well.
Spectral Roar
Chroma sweeps the area in front of him with his current element, dealing high damage and applying max status stacks of that element. If he has any Scorn or Fury, he will consume them for extra damage. Augment would make it a large AoE cast that covers the ground around Chroma.

SFlll 3rd strike ost, maaaan, nostalgia is real
there's a couple things that come to mind for things I want to see changed. if DE wants to keep Chroma as a retaliatory frame, maybe replace shield-gating with real one-shot protection. maybe when Vex Armor is active, shield-gating is turned off and one-shot protection is active while health and shields are 100%. and maybe Vex Armor's defensive buff could be similar to the damage attenuation that Sisters and Archons get, but that may be too much. oh and make Vex Armor multiplicative again, that just ain't right.
wouldn't mind if Spectral Scream was considered an exalted ability, meaning that you can still use your weapons while you're spewing elements.
Elemental Ward is fine, make it recastable.
I personally like Effigy for the instant CC it can provide (the radial blind isn't affected by range mods lol) but I'm cool with any changes that would make it usable outside of Profit Taker.

I is my main since Chroma Prime (my first prime so it has a special place in my heart) and I must say it works long as you want it to work but in warframe this could be said for every single usable thing I guess

Wow, great overview. I knew players who mained Chroma but pretty much gave up on Warframe when Chroma had all of his "reworks." It destroyed their favorite warframe and destroyed their love of the game.
Like the wyrm, DE grabbed chroma by his wings and snipped them off with a pair of primed scissors
Choma could use a second health bar with the invulnerability of shield gating between the two, I'm thinking casting effigy has next to no drain and acts like a specter in exchange for taking the second health bar with it. Spectral scream needs to inherit weapon stats, primary or secondary depending on whether its him or his effigy using it. All his range needs buffed by a lot.
His wards need to work like Oberon's buffs where it applies on allies who walk into the range and stick to them when they leave

Yeah, I saw someone using the Stug with Chroma fairly recently (within the last couple of years) and I wouldn't be surprised if it actually still works.

My poor boi NEEDS a buff! He was one of the frames I wanted to grab at the start of the game (Other was Grendel), even if he did look ugly, but I love dragons so I had too. When I got him I was disappointed on how not tanky and his kit being a hastle and how unfun he was, fast forward a few months I got his prime but and learned that he can be tanky with the correct setup. But now I see why my friend says he trash... Oh and we NEED a new look to him, where is the dragon in Chroma? Doesn't look dragon to me.. Besides his beautiful Prime.

Chroma is a warframe I didn't understand. Nor his origin, nor purpose. Neither his abilities for that matter. Crafted years ago, when I was fresh in the game and sold it for credits to make room for another frame. Now, I have free slots and hope you will bring some light to convince me to craft him again.
Update: for mechanics yes, for lore not so much. I feel a little disappointed about the lack of story coverage, although I understand you're working on other things in parallel, so it's ok, I guess.
Maybe I will craft him again, sadly not to play, but for Helminth.
The Chroma nerf makes me sad. Since they added the Primary/Secondary Merciless/Deadhead arcanes, Chroma's Vex Armour gives a much smaller damage bonus. It was basically slashed in half. :(

I know it but ur secondary can prime but like 4 times better
i think one thing u might have missed was how the dmg bonus on his 3 was also slightly changed. how it interacted with gas actually. it used to be multiplicative. but was changed to additive. which annoyed ppl because Rhino at the time was Multiplicative. hell rhino might still be. idk sadly. -- nvm u got it. tho more then rhino had multiplicitive buffs tho

@@noahedenborg4221 that's literally what multiplicative dmg does. Chroma buff used to do it but they changed it years ago. Rhinos a poster boy so he hardly ever has nerfs.
@@samnizalplays yes but eclipse is a final dmg multiplier it comes after everything else which is similar to crit dmg but eclipse goes after that vex armor now is like serration it goes first roar usuallly doesnt go before eclipse
and thats why its faction dmg spefificly while it does multiplie ur dmg its slightly diffrent from other multipliers

I was using chroma a few days ago and realized very quickly that I made a mistake. The only good thing was bringing up my MR lol
