Thanks for uploading, Bill. A fabulous song sung by an even more fabulous band! "Sailing to Phli" is always one of my favorite songs to hear the CLB do live; wish they'd record it sometime.
BTW, a "Geordie" is the name given to any person who comes from the English city of Newcastle. Oh yes, and the "Tyne" is the river that runs through Newcastle.
guy is totally shit, and well that is just my appetite, but I really really REALLY hate this vocal tone of the girl's, you know that typical hillbilly country music voice
Claire just shared the link to this performance, and it brings back such deep and fond memories of touring with The Claire Lynch Band. A wonderful arrangement born of our collaborative efforts spearheaded by Claire. It captures the magic and spooky vibe of Knopfler's fine composition - as moving to hear now as it was to play back in the day.
Matt Wingate's guitar fills are a perfect fit. The fact that they change keys in the middle of the song, probably to adjust to Claire's vocal range, makes the song richer, as it allows them to sing the chorus in two different versions, with Claire and Matt swapping the lead vocal. Nicely done, and yes, I think they should record it even if it is "just a cover".
Oh wow. This is simply amazing. Who are you all?? I got the name Matt Wingate. This is superb. Where do you play ? Come to England and Scotland we would love you
Am doing this tonight just as you have with my friend Chris, splitting into the Dixon/Mason parts. Mark Knopfler has done so many brilliant historical songs. Jenny
Truly a most beautiful rendition of an incredible piece of music.
For me, the Harmonies really made this song go up 10 notches, Nice
I just discovered this and am floored. Best cover I've ever heard. Beautiful.
That was amazing. Loved the tasteful fills and the violin work

Claire Lynch, Matt Wingate, Bryan McDowell, and Mark Schatz are the Claire Lynch Band here! They just soothe my soul! Pick away, CLB!
Greetings from Philadelphia! Only great cities inspire great songs ...
Not Inspired by Philadelphia but two British Geordies traveling to draw the Mason, Dickson territory line.Fantastic song all the same.

The West Country is the South West of England known as Cornwall, the dialects are like foreign languages.
This response came up in a search for "I am a jordy boy" (obviously not knowing the spelling.) Thanks for the info!

Very nice job on this Mark Knopfler/James Taylor song.

The key changes threw me. I don't love them but I'll take them.
They have finally recorded the song for an album; however, it is not a CLB album. It is Matt Wingate's new project "Glimpses", just out.
Oh wow. This is simply amazing. Who are you all?? I got the name Matt Wingate. This is superb. Where do you play ? Come to England and Scotland we would love you

Growing up in South western Pennsylvania. The weather forecasters would always say, “‘and south of the Mason Dixon”! Still to this day!

This is IRISH all the way. This would make our great, great, great, great Grandpa Eiland proud. He come over from Ireland 2 centuries ago.
Cant beat the original sorry...but nice.
He’s messed up the harmonies but not a bad cover.
