  • This is a review of the Fengda Airbrush Kit which contains the Fengda FD-186 Compressor and the Fengda BD-130 (or FE-130) Airbrush. This is my first airbrush kit and I've been using it for a few months now. I have used it for Priming, Base Coating, Gradients, Blends, and Varnishing on my Warhammer minis.
    So in this video, I go over all the different components in the kit and give you my thoughts on each of them. The components are the FD-186 Compressor with an attached tank, a pressure regulator, a pressure gauge, a moisture trap, a hose, a pipette, cleaning brushes, and of course the Fengda BD-130 (FE-130) airbrush.

    Hi Thanks for you all for your replies. A verdict on my new Compressor.
    It is brilliant compared to my old 12v. portable model which I have used for a few years with some good results using the cheaper air brush supplied. This new compressor GREAT! I tried it yesterday on some Humbrol gloss coat straight from the bottle ,something I could not do without adding thinners in my old compressor. Fantastic!! Also I was allowed to spray in my Den upstairs as this new compressor is so quiet and using a 20 setting on it once the cylinder was full it cut out and I could spray what I wanted to test . without any noise, Better than in the dark garage on top of a chest freezer. Once I get a spray booth sorted I will love using this kit and get better results. Thanks Dave I will keep in touch on this site.

    AS-186 rebadged under a myriad of names has been around in the market for over a decade now. That's how long I've had mine. Everything any home hobbyist painting model kits could want. 100% recommended unit, incredible for the price even though that has increased over recent years. Modellers today don't know how spoilt they are.

    @AllinWhenPlaying Před 2 lety +8

    This airbrush with the black plastic back piece is actually quite decent but I've found an amazing hack. Fengda does their Iwata knockoff called FE-186K which has AMAZING shell, it is very well machined, has the round cup hole like branded airbrushes do and has a properly working pressure regulator but has a horribly mismatched trigger set (pusher and lock nut) because those are poorly sized for that body - as in, they use generic set that does not fit the body on its own so in itself the airbrush is junk as the trigger is wobbly and has a lot of play. BUT if you swap the pusher/lock set (trigger does not swap, different diameter of the pin) from this one with black tailpiece with Fengda FE186k body they fit perfectly, like the best ones. It actually feels like my real Iwata then and the trigger is perfectly responsive. Best part, the same trigger set that is horrible in FE186k in that black end airbrush fits very well, so you get one great and one good airbrush as a result. How is that possible? No idea, but it does work both ways. So, with this trick for about £25+£15 you can have 2 very good brushes, one for detail one for prime/basecoats witho one being very close to the brand quality which is a good deal.

    • @DavesMiniMenagerie
      @DavesMiniMenagerie  Před 3 lety +2

      You can get airbrushes with larger needle sizes like 0.5, 0.7, 1.0 etc which should spray out quicker. I think something like that would work well, you could check out videos of people painting cosplay costumes or cakes with airbrushes as that is much larger scale than miniatures to get a better idea. Cheers for watching

    Nice video, thank you! About the compressor, do you think it can hold up the pressure to around 30-35 psi? I'm wondering because I usually set this pressure to apply clear coats

    • @DavesMiniMenagerie
      @DavesMiniMenagerie  Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah it can run at 30-35 psi, just the compressor will run a bit more often to keep the tank pressure up. But should be fine yeah

    • @DavesMiniMenagerie
      @DavesMiniMenagerie  Před 2 lety +1

      The compressor will keep the tank at at least 43 psi or higher from their documents

    • @lightzicustoms8053
      @lightzicustoms8053 Před 2 lety +1

      Yeah I was checking their datasheet and saw something like that indeed. But this question came up since I was talking to some resellers in my country and they said the working pressure should be between 10-25 psi. Thanks a lot for your answer Dave!

    • @DavesMiniMenagerie
      @DavesMiniMenagerie  Před 2 lety +2

      @@lightzicustoms8053 I think those pressures are what people generally recommended for normal hobby paints and things. There should be no difference running it up at 30 psi apart from the compressor being on more so it will build up heat faster.

    Hi. Thanks for the video. I just bought a 3-liter mini compressor that looks just like this to start a model kit hobby.
    If I may ask a question... When I first assembled it I followed the seller's instructions, like using teflon tape, make sure all connections from compressor to airbrush are tight, and turn it off when i'm done. I'm usually done with air still in the tank, also I keep the airbrush connected.
    So, is it normal that the tank is empty when I came back to it the next day? If not, what can I do?
    Thank you 🙏

    • @DavesMiniMenagerie
      @DavesMiniMenagerie  Před 2 lety +1

      Hey I bought mine and it was already assembled so I haven't done that before.
      I also always let the air out of mine after I use it so I don't know if it t should stay pressurised overnight, there might be micro leaks in the hose/airbrush/connectors.
      When it is on it can you hear any leaks? If not it's probably ok

    • @tomassoejakto
      @tomassoejakto Před 2 lety

      @@DavesMiniMenagerie everything seems to be working fine. Airbrush flow also keeps steady pressure when used. and i don't hear anything when the tank is full. I hope that's just the way it works but I'll do what you do and relieve the comp whenever i'm done for the day.
      Thank you for the advice. I'm excited to learn using the airbrush and I appreciate your videos very much.
      Cheers 🍻

    • @DavesMiniMenagerie
      @DavesMiniMenagerie  Před 3 lety

      I think you need to get an adapter between them. The badger is American so I think it uses an imperial thread, and this compressor works with Japanese/German/Chinese airbrushes which would use metric threads for the connection

    • @DavesMiniMenagerie
      @DavesMiniMenagerie  Před 2 lety

      Hey mate yes you can control the pressure when it's on.
      There is a trick though!
      The big black pressure nob needs to be pulled up to unlock it, by default it is down and locked.
      So just pop it up and then you should be able to twist it back and forth

    • @jettigger77
      @jettigger77 Před 2 lety +1

      @@DavesMiniMenagerie Thanks for the reply but that still doesn't fix my issue. When ever i try setting it to 20 psi it wont stay stable. The moment I try turning the knob a bit it jumps to 40 psi, and trying to make it lower just stops the air being pushed out altogether.

    • @DavesMiniMenagerie
      @DavesMiniMenagerie  Před 2 lety

      Oh man that sucks, I dunno really what the problem is. I've smoothly adjusted the PSI between 10 and 35 with mine and it stays steady while using it. (Pump kicks on well above that psi so there is always enough pressure for it to be steady)
      If you've just gotten yours I'd try and get a replacement or talk to who you bought it from because that doesn't normal at all.
