I used to take naps with my blanket on the floor to the 90s weather channel. Sometimes (now) when I’m having insomnia I wish I could watch it like it was again. Thank you for posting this. I can finally relax.

Back in 2019 during the geminid meteor showers, I laid down on a blanket I'd had since I was a baby in 1987, and saw 22 shooting stars in 2 hours! Good time! 😊

Jul 15 95 - I was… 7 years old spending summers with my grandpa in central PA. I remember coming in from outside from farm work and he’d fix some sandwiches and a soda with chips or pretzels. Weather channel was always on in the “mud room”.

Weather Channel reminds me of traveling. The airports used to always have it on all the TVs. The days before cell phones, so I would just grab a coffee and watch. I found it so relaxing.
my father would always have this on in the afternoon, regardless of the importance of the weather simply due to the ambiance. he would take a nap on the couch, or mealprep while I play on the computer
there was only a little bit of magic there.

I wish I can close and open my eyes and realize that I’m looking at the calendar saying July 15, 1995 and realizing that everything was just a figment of my imagination. I miss the 1980’s and 1990’s so much!

@@EricTitansSmithmy grandparents were still alive, I haven’t met my ex yet so I would’ve avoided that. I had no debts, high stress or worries about anything. I was in the military and life was simple. Also enjoyed the music videos that played on TV. Radio stations were live. I just miss that year.
I wish the weather channel was like this again. This bring back some serious memories and nostalgia! I was 10 in 1995 and do recall that summer being very hot! Nothing like swimming with your brothers at your grandparents house in a hot day … I miss that! Always fell asleep to TWC at night 😅.
Ahh yeah. The neighborhood I was living in at the time, several neighbors had pools, so yeah most of that hot summer was spent at friends houses swimming

You really don't want this version of TWC.
The 90s version was AWFUL when major weather events were occurring. A 3-5 minute update at the top and bottom of the hour and regular coverage otherwise. Do that today with an Andrew making landfall and it would be the end of the network.
While the reality shows need to go or be severely cut back, live weather coverage of major events is much better today

July 15 '95 The Ontario Adirondacks Derecho...this was the day that early on the 15 that thunderstorms moved from Ontario thru northern New York held together thru New England...many people that were camping that weekend were killed from falling trees..My brother and I went up to Lake George for a hike up Black Mountain by the lake we were on top just as the storms moved in there was no warning just a dark fog moved upon us then all hell broke lose and the winds an rain ..luckily there was an old cabin on top that we found refuge..never forget it
Remember it all too well myself. My parents and I were supposed to head to Eagle Point Campground in Warren County on the southern end of Schroon Lake that morning, but the near 80mph winds knocked power out so we didn't want to leave home alone until it came back on. No power at the Park either, and we were afraid to navigate the damage up the Northway to get there. Left a day later, and when we got there they were just locking up the outhouses because the power and water pumps had just come back on.
I was 14, was moving to Fresno with my Dad from Santa Cruz county. Man, the 90's seem wholesome as heck compared to now days.
They were amazing times.

I was 11 years old and also lived in Baltimore/ Essex, MD . I remember ima series of storms came racing from the north and cause tornadoes to hit the area but can’t remember what year? That was the first time I seen a tornado and also became fascinated with weather ever since
@@alexspicer6043I do vaguely remember a tornado watch happening at some point that year. We had to go down to the den and hide out there until the watch ended. I remember my dad grabbing our mattresses and leaning them against the windows for added protection and watching WC on the tiny little TV set we had down there.

1988, 1995 and 2012 the three hottest in my lifetime about 500 miles west. 95 was a fun time - hot all the time and 19 years old. I met my son's mother a week after this broadcast.
1934 and 1936 during the Great Depression had hot summers too. Not only that, but it was also during the Dust Bowl era those years.

@@jasong428 I was not even around in the 1930s and 1980s, but I've been through the 2012 heat wave. I'm a Fort Wayne native. Temperatures on June 28, 2012 reached 106 degrees, tying the all-time record high, previously set on July 22, 1934, July 14, 1936, and June 25, 1988. The derecho hit the next day (June 29, 2012). I lost power. No kidding, on July 4, 2012, temperatures reached 101 degrees, tying the Independence Day record high, set in 1955. Also on July 7, 2012, the 103 degree reading also tied the all-time record high, set on July 14, 1954, although 106 was set on that same date in 1936.
My Pops would leave this channel on all day, for He was a truck driver and needed to know what the weather will be. I just got stuck listening to wonderful music.

I have to believe different weather star receivers held on to the old school flavors longer than others. I know by this time in my area, all the old flavors were streamlined to boring ones which lasted until the birth of the xl.

We so very rarely get strong to severe thunderstorms coming at us from the northwest in the tristate area anymore. That is how we used to get some incredible blows. Alas...
90s Weather Channel had the potential to use *every single* released Genesis addon to make it work.
A special Mega Modem would connect to a server that downloads weather info in real time.
The 32x would help with graphics enhancement.
The Sega CD would be used for that smooth music.
The Genesis would be, well, the Genesis.

I live in NW Ohio. Last year was so hot in that it was almost similar. I don’t think it quite reached 90° before 10AM, but it was definitely close. I had Covid, so I was inside the entire time, but one step outside and you’d want to run right back in.
Even Florida usually isn’t this hot by 10:00. High 80s is usually the norm by then. Unless there is a heat wave.
