How to Prepare San Pedro: Best, Fastest, and Easiest Method

  • I decided that I would remake my San Pedro Preparation video when it hit a 100k views. I learned a few tricks and made a few adjustments that save time and reduce bitterness, and so this is the Even Better Best Way to Prepare San Pedro.
    Huachuma is powerful medicine for body, spirit, heart, and mind. Respect and caution is necessary, because of variation in the potency of material. 12-18 inches per person is a standard recommendation, although older, thicker cactus, obviously less. Just a few simple steps. .
    I do not mention in the video the importance that shamans place upon maintaining the energy of the space throughout, from harvest to cup, This is in my experience, something to take seriously. It certainly can't hurt. The mind is focussed on some specific or general intent, and tobacco smoke is blown (especially before harvesting) or Icaros are whistle-blown into the medicine from time to time while cooking, and just before serving.

Shit that was deep though, full on energetic pulsing waves coursing through the body, up to that point that was the most intense journey I'd be on. On the topic of heat, you're never really heating it beyond 212F/100C because there's water in the solution. I'm sure that if the water dries up then you'll find a way to overheat the alkaloids.

  • @michaeljacques7336
    @michaeljacques7336 Před 3 měsíci +2

    TLDR: you cant overheat things if you keep them wet, if your goods dry out while they are still on heat your screwed!
    Water boils and turns to steam at 212F. This may sound obvious, but the steam is carrying excess heat away. This stops the solution from ever going above the boiling point of the liquid (water in this case). So it doesn't matter if someone boils for an hour or 18 days, the temp is never going to get above the boiling point of the water. The thing to watch out for would be boiling the water out becomes then the temp can spike to what ever temp the heat source is, which will definitely destroy alkaloids. Thing about making mashed potatoes on the stove, if you are not stirring well you can burn the potatoes on the bottom of the pot. That happens because the potatoes on the bottom dry out and they can now get to hot.
    Same goes for cactuses, anything burnt to the bottom of the pot when you are done is wasted. be extra carful when you are concentrating your cactus juice, if you let it dry out while its still on the stove you definitely can destroy all of the Alkaloids.

    Length of cactus (1-3ft) to remaining liquid = dosage...so consider if you brew a given length say 2 ft for discussion, brew it in a given volume of liquid then condense it to a given amount say 5 oz it's 5 oz/dose. so say you process 21 ft. and condense it to say 14 oz you divide 21 by 3 ( I always did 3 per dose) you have 7. 14 divided by 7 = 2 oz...still tho this vid takes some extra steps so his methos probably is more efficient in total extraction then what I discovered back in my days of trials..haven't done this in a long while so we're building on a foundation of knowledge. have a good flight! I'll add I used a juice extractor and used all liquid in the cactus. no water added. used the entire cactus too nothing wasted.

    Have you tried extracting alkaloids with pressure-cooker?

  • @human8195
    @human8195 Před 3 lety +8

    You should do an experiment to find out which part of the cactus is the most potent.
    Do extractions on different parts and take them separately and compare results.

    • @Illumignostic
      @Illumignostic  Před 3 lety +3

      People have published online analysis that show even distribution throughout. I have friends that have gotten results that suggest that the green layer is three x's as potent.

    When I leave my San Pedro tea in the fridge it separates with a clear black watery stuff at the top and thick green sediment at the bottom.
    I was hopeful the sediment was waste and I could drink just the black stuff, or does it all contain mescaline?

    For an "insider" this was really entertaining. I never found it to be necessary to save time when brewing it, because the beginning of the process is part of the whole experience, but I do get those people, who are looking for a fast way to do this.
    In 1994 I bought a San Pedro with an instruction for its preparation. The next 20 years I brewed once a year a dose for me to consume and since Trichoceraeus Pachanoii grows like a weed, there are now about 50 cacti in and around my town. Over the years I've somewhat finessed "my" method* and erased certain unnecessary steps with the aim to reduce superfluous steps and to minimize the horrible taste**. I can only emphasize the use of a very good filtering appliance (I prefer a fine cloth), the use of lime- or citrus-juice with the finished product AND the mental acumen to consume it very slowly in 20min intervals - who wants to asphyxiate himself by gulping an overdose???
    *30cm length, 5-6cm diameter, removal of the middle part, cooking the piece for three hours, scraping the gooey mass from the skin with a knife and cooking it another two hours, sieving it thoroughly, reducing the brew to 600ml, adding the citrus-juice to my liking and keeping the whole mess in a thermos-flask
    **when I brewed it the first time my product tasted like bitter mud, 20 years later it tasted like medicine

    I'm already in the process so this will be for future attempts for me but I have a few questions. When you boil the broth down, and get the plant matter and liquid, which are you using? I was under the impression you want the liquid but apparently that block of plant resin stuff is golden too? Also, should one stir their mixture as it boils? Thank you for the video brother!

    • @Illumignostic
