I’ve had people ask “Why do you want to collect toys. You’re an adult you shouldn’t be buying toys.” I’ve even tried changing what I collect. I started collecting watches & those same people would say “why are you spending your money on that? You’re just waisting your money.” It was at that point I decided I was gonna collect what I wanted & not worry about what others thought. I’ve quit buying Pop & sold my collection twice to make others happy. What I found was doing so didn’t make them or me happy. I’ve been back collecting Pops for about a month. I’m happier & the complainers are still complaining.

I know anxiety is a terrible thing, as I have been back and forth with some sort of anxiety/depression over the years. Pops bring joy to the collector in me. Other than my relationship with my Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, nothing really has come close to easing my anxiety. It's a rush to get that one Pop you have been searching for! God bless you! 👍👍🤜🤛

Yeah, it's the same for me. I only collect pops that have strong emotional value behind them, not for profit. I find that surrounding myself with things that remind me of good memories really helps when depression strikes.

Thank you for sharing your story.♥️ I got into collecting because I found comfort in the stuffed animal characters. I started in plush, then figures, and found Funko. I myself get anxious around people. Which is why I love this community because I can finally talk to people I have stuff in common with.

Wow. This is so important. Talking about your anxiety and the depression that can come along with it. Especially GETTING HELP FROM A DOCTOR. I’m a clinical psychologist and I wish more people would do what you are doing now. Talking about something that is incredibly common but feels so isolating to the individual. I absolutely love that you starting collecting Funko pops and found a community!! Well you are officially my favorite person on CZcams. You are so real and honest and it makes all the difference in the world. Thank you so much for sharing your personal journey. You are amazing. Thank you thank you. ❤️❤️❤️

To answer your Funko question-I got into funko collecting not long ago really. I had never heard of them. I am a disney person through and through. I had been watching some of my favorite disney CZcams people when I was planning for a trip to Disney World. One of them unboxed the Dumbo Box from hot topic. That was it. Dumbo is one of my life long favorites. I went to my local hot topic and purchased my very first Funko related purchase. Along with my second which was the Lilo and Stitch box! I am a collector at heart so this is right up my alley! As you said, the price point is perfect. I don’t feel like I’m over paying for what it is. And really, Funkos just make me happy. Lately I’ve been collecting random funko dogs. Scooby Doo, Scooby Dum (so inappropriate in today’s world which is why i love him so much!) Astro, K9 (Marvin the Martian’s Dog!). Ghost is in there along with Nymeria. I love the ad icons. And I just smile every time I see them. Micro therapy!!! As a child born in the 80’s I love all the Saturday morning cartoon throwbacks and films from my childhood. My favorite pops would have to be my Pete’s Dragon set. I have Pete with “invisible” Elliot and the appeared Elliot. The artists created Elliot so perfectly. I adore him. Funko Pops just give me all the feels! ❤️😊 (omg sorry for the longest ramble!)

Franklyn FM McInnis funny that you mention an Instagram account! I’m just putting one together! As soon as it’s done I will post the link! Thank you for all you do. I had to laugh at all we have in common. I was very interested to hear that you did a prison poetry “event”. I have done quite a bit of work with incarcerated juveniles in particular. I know beyond any doubt that the way this country does prison is wrong. It’s for profit and facilitates little rehabilitation and absolutely creates more traumatized human beings which encourages further dysfunctional and anti social behavior. (This is me going into analyst mode! 😂) My point being that your participation in that event is exactly what we need in the prison system. Treating incarcerated individuals like human beings and giving them coping mechanisms that are creative and healing. I hope you know that this channel is not only fun, it touches people and lifts them up. Who knew that CZcams would create mental health bridges?! 😊

I started collecting funko pops since 2014/2015 where a friend gifted me my very first pop (Iron Man Mark 43 from Avengers Age of Ultron). It looked cool then I saw the back of the box and saw Hulk Buster and had to get that too. Got the Marvel Corp Collector subscription and from there things started to kick off. Finished Age of Ultron line of Pops and moved on to more Marvel pops, dived into Doctor Who, DBZ, OverWatch, DC, a bunch of Animation/Game lines. Now I'm trying to figure out how many Pops I have since I crossed my first couple hundred. No regrets still to this day and my collection is still growing. Take care of yourself, thank you for sharing your story with us!

I've gone through waves of collecting over the years. From comics and non sport trading cards, hot wheels, action figures, and now Funko Pops. I tend to go all in when I collect. I've been collecting Pops for about 4 or 5 months now and I have over 150 so far. Your channel has by far been one of the most influential for my Pop hunting. Great video, I would say the reason I started collecting POPs is very similar to yours. Going through a divorce after 35 years of marriage was really tough. The kids had left based on their lives evolving and I'm alone for first time in my life. Was not going to allow depression to get me. Saw pops and, as you stated, loved the diverse properties that they offered. My life is pretty simple now and collecting POPs is a big part of it. I enjoy interacting with other collectors such as yourself. Collecting POPs has really been therapeutic, maybe not to my wallet, but in other ways. That's my story!

I never knew you were married and went through a divorce. I went through one in 2014. Gamestop was the place where I got my first Funko Pop too, but it was actually the SDCC 2017 Gwenpool Rock Candy. That kicked off my love for the Rock Candy line. The nostalgia factor is a huge reason why I collect. Thanks again for sharing!

  • @musicvinylguy

I started collecting Pops in 2014. Before that, I was mainly focused on collecting vinyl records. I really enjoyed the Guardians of the Galaxy and wanted to get some sort of Groot figure and settled on a Funko Pop and just went down the rabbit hole from there. Since then I’ve branched out to other collectibles and figures. Right now I don’t collect that many figures in general, but I have concluded that Pops are my favorite figures to collect. I think the main reasons are the quality to price ratio I think is really good for them and the variety of licenses. They can look good together without worrying too much about different franchises clashing. I see a lot of people saying other companies like say Neca have better details, but Funko is much cheaper and has hundreds of licenses Neca doesn’t have.

I not only collect Pops but they´re important to me for a particular reason.
I started collecting them because I saw how popular they were in stores. So I wanted to get something from this particular merchandise. And to that I added my fandom of Disney. Especially Disney Villains. Then, a thought came to me where I realized that there´s not enough Disney Villains merchandise out there: not in terms of figures/dolls, not all of them are made and they ones available are too expensive. So I decided to focus my collection on that. And to this day.
...BTW, lucky for me my comic book store was not that well known (now is the biggest in the city) so I managed to get most of the figures that were already vaulted. I´m only missing Captain Hook.

I still will get Pops from characters I like but that there´s nothing or much or easily available/affordable. For instance: soon I will be getting Lobo, Xena and Hercules.
And, as a DC Fan, I might get Pops from these characters that I like; Firestorm, Powergirl...But what I won´t be doing is getting every Pop from every character I like.

I started collecting the day after Christmas of 2016 after my mother fought for us from the system. my first pops were Nick Wilde, Charlie Brown, and Foxy the pirate. The FNAF set was what really caught my interest and that when I began collecting it helped my depression and anxiety. and back then I was really suicidal before funko came in my life now I collect as a hobby and as a stress reliever. cause I always have a pop I desire that keeps me going.

My family thinks Pop are weird but at this point they see my happiness and my excitement so they support me in that way. I’ve always collected figures, from middle school (anyone remember BeGoth dolls from Hot Topic? 😝) to anime figures and Monster High. Now I’m exclusive to Pops and some anime figures. From what I enjoy now, to bringing nostalgia, and like you said cant beat their prices Pops are just fun and easy to collect

I collect in general because I loved having toys when I was younger. I mainly collect action figures now from DC and Marvel. It gives me a sense that I’m still “playing with toys” even though I’m growing up. However, I do collect Funkos as well. I never saw the interest at first, I’ll be honest. But I also got curious about it. I’m a huge Nightwing fan, and the black and blue Nightwing was my first POP. Once he arrived, I opened it and looked at it. It was cute, but also a nice little display item to show off a character I like. So then I started getting more. Still am collecting

I started collecting pops because of the theme.
Other collectables don't really capture a similar vibe like Funko does. Each collection looks different. With Pops, even though you can have 30 different franchises on one shelf, they are thematically the same. The chibis style really shows in nearly every pop.
The price point is fair too. Even resale is cheaper than most collectable "toys". They do a great job of keeping hardcore collectors too though.
Just a wonderful trip of nostalgia and fun.

Sally again, I think you are fantastic, so easy to listen to. I feel I can relate, I suffer from depression and anxiety and I experienced Agrophobia as a teenager and it is such a terrible thing to go through . There is such a comfort in collecting and a joy I find in not being able to get all of them otherwise it would not make it a challenge or exhilarating when I find them. I love looking at each one and remembering whether it was new or second hand, online, store or a pick up from a house. It is incredible how something so small can bring so much joy, I would rather have something nostalgic like these over diamonds any day, truly. I love your attitude, people can take the joy out of this, personally I take everything out the box and throw the boxes away, for me I want to enjoy them, pose them, give backdrops and hold them, admire them, for me toys are to be handled, loved and enjoyed. I adore Funko News, your videos are so amazing and even if you do not have a new video out as soon as I get home I jump in bed with a cup of tea and replay old Funko News and just enjoy these videos so much. One of my all time fave collections was Orange Is The New Black and I was devastated it did not do well, so surprised it did not, would have loved a huge set of the prison series. I would love to get to know you better, really enjoyed your Black Manta statue and because of that watched Aquaman finally last night thanks to you, great movie. Love the personal video and really enjoyed the aquarium video too as you were showing a side of yourself, I love aquariums too, have a shark bathroom and coastal bedroom in my house , Jaws pops are of course in there ! Hey Franklyn, been a subscriber and a fan for a while now. Your story was very inspiring. I started collecting back in 2016 kinda by accident. I was going to see David Ayer’s suicide squad film but i stopped at GameStop and i saw the shirtless Joker pop and i bought it on impulse. Since then i’ve amassed a fairly big collection of Pops, Sodas and Albums. I probably have over 200 pops since 2016 and even now my favourite pop is my Shirtless Joker from 2016’s Suicide Squad. A friend of mine told me about you and i subscribed started watching Funko News since then, back in 2020 back when Covid was plaguing the world. Take care my friend. - Jordan from Canada

Before I even watch this, I want to say that I really appreciate you. I just recently entered the Funko community and seeing your weekly updates were awesome. I watched (not live) your SDCC unboxing video and felt like I could hear you getting upset with how some people mistook your stance on community posts for a while and that is completely understandable, we have to go by what you wish since this is your channel and your work. I heard you say you were in basic training which made me assume you served in the military, for that (unless I completely misunderstood), I want to thank you for your service. I studied history (20th-century wars) and I can understand how veterans are under-appreciated no matter the role they played. All in all, thank you for being very humble and, as I tell my students, an overall great human being!!

I collect funko pops is because my first pops ever purchased are video game themed. I was really into the Halo series and Halo 4 was coming out soon and i saw that they made pops of Master Chief and Cortana from Halo 4 and some of the other spartans. I love how for being 4 inches they are detailed you can stack them and they display very well. I was also going through a stressful time with leaving work due to stress and my dad getting very sick. I needed soemthing to help me keep from freaking out and well it snowballed into collecting pops. I didnt fully collect them until 2017 and this community just amazes by seeing nice people and collectors help each othe rout. Sure there are some pops that are grails I will get one day, but for now I will take my time to enjoy the hunt. I'm sorry you've been through so much I know what its like toturtle yourself from the world and people but slowly you can overcome it. I have a long way to go, but I am grateful I found your channel from another collector. Pops are easy to display but you do have to remember that they are just plastic and it snot the end of the world if you miss out on one.........

I have had depression and anxiety all my life, been to counseling all my life, and it's still something I struggle with, so I know what you're going through. I started mildly collecting toys when I started my job at a thrift store in 2013, just picking them up here and there, but back then I was really big into Yugioh. But my friends were slowly getting out of the game and I had no way of getting to tournaments to play. In 2014, still playing Yugioh mind you, I noticed Mystery Minis on the shelves and they were for series that I really enjoyed! The first one I ever picked up was for Guardians Of The Galaxy because my hype was at an all-time high for the movie, and I ended up pulling an ugly looking Gamora, but I still loved it regardless. From then on instead of buying Yugioh packs, I would sometimes once in a while pick up a Funko Mystery Mini. Eventually I would drop Yugioh myself and pick up another card game called Force Of Will, however, I fell off from that after about a year because I ran into the exact same issue as Yugioh. With that out of the way, I don't remember the exact time I started collecting more Mystery Minis, but I slowly would buy more and more, and eventually, my wife and I bought a "Loot Crate" which would have a glow in the dark Groot Funko Pop in it, which would make it our first. In 2015 we spotted a Funko Black Friday Mystery Box and we each got one. We got some random stuff in it, but as far as Pops go she got a Claptrap while I got a Batwoman. (This would mark my first Funko Pop). But 2016 went on and nothing really came of anything Funko much, besides Mystery Minis (Because they were like card packs but toys instead). I was falling off of Force Of Will hard and I had nothing I was really collecting seriously anymore and it kind of left a void. I missed playing card games with friends, but toy collecting was kinda fun, but it was very casual.
Then came the next GameStop Black Friday Mystery Box for 2016 and again, I picked one up. This time I pulled a GOLD MEGA MAN and I was ecstatic! At the time I thought it was much rarer than it actually was, but it was still a great pull! I feel like this may have been the catalyst to me starting to get into Funko Pop collecting a lot harder! But it wasn't just Pops at the time, it became anything Funko related with a focus on Pops and Mystery Minis, I loved getting all the characters that I loved in Pop form! It was very fun to collect! There even came a point in which I downsized my very casual collection of Toys so that I could continue collecting for Funko because I enjoyed it so much. However, I still have/had a hard time trying to make friends or talking with people I don't know, and some IRL stuff with people from my job had made it much worse than it ever had been. Funko is really helping me to get out of my shell a lot more! I'm better able to talk with people, and even though I'm still not at a level that I wish I was at, I am very happy with my progress! Over my time collecting, I've gathered a lot of knowledge about this hobby and it makes me feel good to help people across various Funko groups that I am apart of! Hell, if I was still how I was back then, I wouldn't even be making a comment on this video at all. However, there was a point in my Funko collecting career where I was beginning to feel overwhelmed by collecting them.
Last summer, in 2018, I had a large list of Funko Pops that I wanted, and a large Funko Pop collection (over 500 various figures) and I was just... stressed out about my own hobby. I was collecting for EVERY series that I loved, and it was just too much. There were just too many things that I enjoyed, and over the course of 2018 I had slowly let some things go for the first time, it wasn't enough. But I LOVE this hobby so much I didn't want to give it up. So I decided to make a difficult decision, and I sold over half of my entire collection. I chose about (9?) series to continue to collect for, and the rest I put up for sale. This was something very, very difficult for me to do. In the process of putting things up for sale, I wanted to say "Nope! I can't do this!" and just continue on how I was going, but I told myself that I had to do it. But once I started selling off the Funko Pops, it became easier and easier to do. By the time I sold off everything that I cut from my collection, I felt a LOT better! And I mean A LOT better! I haven't stressed about my own hobby anymore, and have not only fewer series to collect for, but I went back to the drawing board and now I only collect Mystery Minis and Pops, and I am enjoying the hobby all over again! It's a little different, there are a lot of Funko Pops that I absolutely LOVE but I have the willpower to not have to pick it up because it just does not fit my collection. I can still admire something without having to own it, and that's a lesson I am happy to have learned! It's like you say, you can't have everything, and it's ok!
I know this has gone on for far too long, I've kinda poured my heart out here, but I want to finish off by saying keep up the fantastic work! I'm more of a silent fan of yours, but I really enjoy your content! And I want you to know that I can relate to the struggles of anxiety and you are not alone in this world or this hobby, who has to deal with it. I'm glad that you were able to find great friends through this hobby, and even though I haven't found anybody I can call a close friend yet because of this hobby, I have hope that maybe someday I can break out of my shell enough to allow someone else into my life that I can call a true friend.

I collect Funko Pops because it releases some of my depression; especially, when a new Pop(s) comes out and I go to hunt them for the specific ones I wanted.
As for me on how I started collecting them; I don't remember, but I think is when I walked into the Hot Topic and thats how I saw them for the first time in either late 2016 or early 2017.

I got started collecting Skylanders figures, they are a form of fiscal download. To play the character in the game, you buy the character figure. They are cool looking, I collected them and played them in the games. Then Disney Infinity games with the figures. I also got into Lego Dimensions, I had to have all the figures that got released, and when those games and figures stopped I found myself collecting Funko Pops.

The first Funko pops I got was wave 1 of Bob’s burgers. It is one of my favorite shows and they came with me to school. I then really got into collecting power rangers, as the 2017 movie made me nostalgic for the TV show, I got the dorbz set and the 25th anniversary pops. I suppose my collection is an assortment of nostalgia. Apart from the pops, I collect the Bandai America Power Rangers legacy collection figures and props, and the new Hasbro lighting collection. Hoping that one day Funko will release a Zordon pop.

Hey there is good to know that you are a collector for a good reason despite what ever is the reason why people collecting I think it’s just great that you get better and more focused not to mention having fun doing it, the reason why is because I’m kind a collecting for the same reasons I used to have some panic attach and I know it’s just really bad and find something that keeps you focus and distracted is the best option instead taking a bunch of drugs !!
Anyway I feel good about you for just get better and share your reality with the community and a hope u keep collecting and posting your news because we all like to know what’s going wrong with funko!!
Ow and I collect a bunch of figures and funko too but unfortunately here in Japan funko is not that popular as it is in USA but I try hard to get some stuff and I do some videos too if you want you can check! Again thanks for the funko news and chears!! Hope you keep doing more videos and collecting!!
