did i miss it- what's the model yr?
Bought my 2004 4WD Sequoia in 2020. Was one owner vehicle. Paid $4000. Now has 185,000 miles. Love it.
You stole it at that price.
@smokey2459 not at all. I still see Sequoias like mine going for the same sort of price. Always amazes me because they can last such a long time. I removed the rear and middle seats in mine and it's like a pick up truck but better. I have lost count of the times I have slept in the back saving on motel rooms. And the amount of stuff you can get back there is amazing, plus it's great in the snow and fantastic for towing. Intend to keep for as long as possible.
Have a 2011 4WD v6 Highlander I got for 11.5. One previous owner.
It's a breath of fresh air after owning a 2005 Jeep GC v8 with 5 previous owners lmao. What a nightmare. It seemed like it perpetually had problems from the moment I bought it. Overheating, thrown rods, bad fuel injectors, 4WD option wasn't working, etc.
What did u fix so far
@Landcruiser252 Rear door hatch mechanism, side door actuator, front ball joints. These I did myself. Got garage to replace timing belt and water pump. I do regular oil and filter changes.
I'm not a Motorhead but I do like to keep up with the car industry.
I like your style and your banter.
I have subbed and liked.
Had to sell my 08 sequoia last year, I really loved that sequoia but definitely Im buying another one as soon as I can.
I just spent several grand refurbishing my 2008 5.7L sequoia with 219k trouble free miles.
New all over paint. New rear wiper motor. New third brake light. New headlamps. New bumper. New $900 touch screen radio. New door speakers. New struts and shocks. New windshield. New serpentine belt. New idler pulley. New tensioner. New OEM air intake. New all weather cargo mat. Straight piped from the cats back.
Still runs like new.
Much better than what’s available on the market now.
How's your mpg?
@@vtecyourselfbeforeyouwreck8109 being a rwd with the tow package I can get 19 mpg cruising at 60-65
In town I get 14-14.5.
Worth every penny since nothing ever breaks on it.
I’d accept a grand highlander XLE AWD hybrid as a replacement. More room behind the third row, similar pricing new compared to used sequoia, and 20 more miles per gallon. Plus quieter and right amount of tech.
MPG ? Who cares! Fill er -up.😂
@@vtecyourselfbeforeyouwreck8109 14-19.
It’s rwd. I can get 19 at 60 mph cruising on the hwy.
14.5 around town.
Scotty ! I am so very thankful for your time. I appreciated the information and advice you shared. Thank you.
I love my 13 Sequoia. Best vehicle ive ever owned. Its a beast.
Yes exactly. Please look at the bolstering on the seats, like my 2010 Forerunner, nice, thick bolstering, then look at the new Lexus GX and similar, you’ll never last a long trip with elderly parents. New seats are very thin and back issues will be unbearable for some.
I love my 2010 Sequoia.
I’ll never sell it.
Thanks Scotty !!
I just picked up a super-clean 2014 last week. Tons of miles but drives and rides smooth and quiet. If you want an older family hauler that can fit six+ that can pull a trailer and give you a great shot at 300K+ miles it is hard to do better than a Sequoia.
I would love to own that! But I live in the city. I don’t think my apartment parking space can fit that lol!
Great recommendation Scotty! We luv our '14 Sequoia we picked up used 2 years ago with 75K miles! Put the scanner on it and it was clean. The frame/underbody looked new - my mechanic couldn't believe how new it looked!
My 04 has over 300k miles on it. Runs absolutely fine....only has a borderline rotten frame but ya know...they run forever lol
Used car twenty thousand ? Crazy !
Get a crap american car its cheaper and breaks all the time... like for example ford's... 😂
@@peterpanini96ford - Fix Or Repair Daily
Scotty is absolutely right, I've had many different vehicles, I had a late eighties astro van that was just rear wheel drive with the V-6 and I put aggressive Michelin tires all the way round and we never got stuck in snow or slush or frozen slush. I've had front wheel drive, rear wheel drive pickups S-10s and full size pickups, and all wheel drive vehicles and I always used snow tires not crappy worthless "all season" rip off garbage tires!
I was thinking, what is better than a new Toyota? an old Toyota! 😂
umm, no the newer ones are far better
I daily drive an '02 camry, and it's one of the best cars I've ever owned! I bought it from a private seller in 2020, did all the routine maintenance, and it still drives like new! It's not fast, but it's cheap & easy to repair! Good enough for me😆😆😆
WRONG!!!!!
@@user-do9ir8lv2m
The new ones are Kias. Not even close to what they were. 2017 was the last good year for the camry.
@@user-do9ir8lv2mUmmm, no you miss the point. The old ones will last longer because they're built for longevity. A twin turbo V6 will not last as long as a naturally aspirated V8. They cut corners when it comes to some of the vital parts in the newer models
RIGHT SCOTTY RIGHT! Keep the V6-v8
My neighbor has a Sequoia - loves it but has had to do a lot of maintenance things like buy new headlight assemblies because the old ones were essentially opaque.
If that happens you get some 600 grit sandpaper and then use 1000 grit and then finish with 2000 grit and then polish it with some metal polish like mothers or flitz and they will look almost new. You gotta spend about 20 minutes on each one though.
Over the years, I've seen a lot of these over 400k miles in middle east. They're basically bigger landcruisers
They are prune to timing chain tensioner noise and oil slippage and water pump leaks. But still great to have. I have 2016 limited, rocks...
Scotty said “you shouldn’t be racing around in this thing”, then proceeds to the drag strip and floors it.. 😂😂
I want his lawn !!😂😂
It’s made to toss beauty covers on.
Hi Scotty I need your opinion on bmw e83 728 2001 I need your usual lecture.
Owner hid the beauty cover so Scotty wouldn’t throw it 😂
Even Toyotas are not as good as they used to be ☹️
Maybe not exactly, but they're still, overall, the safe bet 👌
My friend towed a 2023 Honda crv with 3200miles with a thrown rod
umm what are you talking about?? They are even BETTER today
They're still tons better than the new Fords, Dodge, GMC, etc. Those new vehicles have been dropping like flies!
@@ocularpressure4558doubt it
Dang, now I have scan-tool envy. LOL! --Old Guy
Thanks for your videos Scotty! I've followed you for a long while & you've convinced me to buy a Toyota or possible a Honda for work as I can drive 500-700 miles a week & my old '01 4.0l jeep cherokee is getting long in the tooth.
Your video also had me buy an Ancel code reader & diagnostic computer which have been a lifesaver.
I would love to see you do a video on what to all look for & how to use a diagnostic computer when buying a used car as I think it is a great tool for under $100 that aids in not buying junk or at least know what your getting into.
Make sure all emissions monitors are complete. If they are not, that's a red flag. Also, check for any codes and check fuel trims to ensure it is running well.
Sequoia used is my next buy.
Same. Aiming for 2016-2018 around 120-150 thousand miles for $25k-$28k
I always have a heck of a time hearing what year model a Scotty vid is about. Anyone catch the year model?
It's a 2013. He says it at the beginning of scanning the car.
Toyota Brothers, I'm seriously considering starting the hunt for a older,V-8 Sequoia. 2x2 or 4x4,doesn't matter.
What's the best years to focus on?
Thank you.
Great car
Scotty can you do a video on the 2021 Hyundai Santa fe, my wife and i just bought one used 50,000 miles on it, and want to know what you think? Thanks
Hey Scotty so is big scan tool the same as a fancy one🎉
Which one between a used Sequoia or used 4-Runner can be a great SUV for on road and off road use. Just started dating a girl with her child and I love them both very much so I was seeking out advice from the car community because there are way too many choices out there but not as reliable
"Shouldn't be racing" As we go to the drag strip. :)
Scotty, what are your thoughts on the 5.7 cam tower leaks?
We have an 02 Sequoia and it chugs along baby
beauty covers reduce engine noise.
For who the mice?
Well Scotty, I live in northern Sweden were the winters are tough. You're recommendations to just put winter tyres on the back of the car doesn't help. You need winter tyres all around to make a difference.
In the province of Quebec the government mandated that all vehicles have four (not just two) winter tires installed during the 'winter' months. This caused another problem; a lot of owners continue driving on winter tires year round.
Would love to find a 1985 Toyota SR5 pickup. 4x4. Unfortunately, people that have them won't sell them
I ordered from a dealer 2024 sequoia capstone. While waiting on it I joined couple of fan groups on Facebook. And the things people saying making me think, is it worth it? The quality is so bad it's crazy scary
I remember an episode of "Rocko's Modern Life" where his car broke down and they found out it was made in Slobobdia.
The biggest downside to a Sequoia is that the have a big price tag.

I wish they still did a 7 seater rav4
What’s the pros and cons of the engine cover
Hey man my mom put conventional oil in her tahoe 5.3 other than full synthetic and now she loses oil pressure after the motor gets running .... help me and tell how I can help her with this issue...

Hello, I have the same car and I have problems with the Transmission, the gears don't shift it's stuck on the 3rd gear. the computer says code P0761-Shift
Solenoid "C"
Performance/Stuck
Off. I tried everything. I change the Solenoids and the oil also the filter and even the Transmission ECU
I have same sequoia and a solenoid C & D issue as well but affecting 2nd gear. It only occurs in the mornings when vehicle is cold.. unfortunately I have to let it warm up for 5-10 minutes in the mornings in order for issue to not occur. Mechanic is telling me he's been seeing this issue with Sequoias and Tundras lately. He's also replaced the solenoids for several customers and issues continues.
Thanks for the info 😊
Actually those covers have a purpose. It helps deaden noise
At 21 degrees in the morning. YES, the engine cover serves a purpose Snotty. 😼
What scan tool is that
My sister in law has a Sequoia and is close to half a million miles... original engine and trans!
What year is this?
Edit: 2013 TOYOTA SEQUOIA PLATINUM
Winter tire helps but nothing beats a 4x4 & a capable driver. Real wheel drive vehicle just suck in the snow (unless drifting), especially going up the hill.
“giant couch” 😂
When you want to save on gas, the manual transmission is the best choice for big vehicles.
Toyota forklifts in Indiana? Yes, but NOT at the Princeton plant where the Sequoia and Tundra were built (and now where the Sienna, Highlander, Grand Highlander, and Lexus TX are built).
Scotty😅 is the best
not a bad deal with just under 80,000 miles on it.
Yep i paid 30 for my 13 limited 2 years ago with 115 on it. But its mint.bcrazy clean for the year and mileage and not a spec of rust on the undercarriage anywhere.
Amazing deal for 80k miles. I just bought a 13 with 147k for 22,500. Super clean interior and frame. Body has some minor cosmetic marks but mostly covered up with fender flares. Love this thing.
Hi SCOTTY! I NEED YOUR ADVICE! SOMEONE IS TRYING TO SELL ME A 2001 SEQUOIA ONLINE FOR $3400! IT JUST "PASSED" NEVADA INSPECTION OR SMOG (IDK IT JUST SAYS PASSED). THE TRUCK DOES NOT HAVE ANY TEARS OR STAINS IN THE INTERIOR. HOWEVER IT HAS LIKE 350,000 MILES !THE OWNER CLAIMS ITS "RUNS GOOD". SHOULD I BUY THIS?
Scotty he just took off the beauty cover because he didn't want you throwing it on the ground. 😂
I bought one last year with 160k miles. I've spent about $5k on it putting in new struts, canister, shocks, etc. I don't mind. Just maintenance. Love it.
Needed struts?
Yes. They were leaking. They were also original. It was time.
@@jons8381 Unless the cup that holds the bottom of the spring has oil collections, it's not usually considered abnormal. I still have originals after 26 yrs. but don't go off road.
How many miles on it to get it for $26k?
Bought 2003 sequoia in 2020 at 165k miles for 4500$
Now have 200k miles on it
They will continue to make V-8s for nascar.
Just test drove one. Had bad driver side timing chain tensioner noise and someone let their dog use it as a toilet apparently
Scotty thanks for ur input and knowledge of cars and thank God for ur warnings 👍
What years of the Sequoia are the best ?
Any of them from 2000-2022 with the V8.
Thing is in better shape than 10,000 mile Rams and Sierras
One day perhaps people will strive to find beer for say $3.06 per gallon! Imagine.
I thank you for the good advice 😊
😂V8s the way to go.
What’s with all the wing flapping!
You never said what year it was
didn't toyota make the v8 to get into Nascar
Big Shot loves the V8 he’s too cheap to own. 🤣🤣🤣
best out there 2011 jeep patriot 2.4 limited all the options awsome sound system 4wd leather ect
This Sequoia is part of the old Toyota. New Toyota- it's all about charging $20k more for the same level of vehicle you got just 2-3 years ago, only it has a new engine with 2 fewer cylinders.
And if you want your V6- better get one of their bigger vehicles or be willing to jump over to Lexus. That's what it's all about now.
Hello 👋
scotty hondas are made in ohio in marysville not in indiana
They have one in Greensburg, IN and a few other locations.
Great vehicle I have a gen 1(06) and Gen 2 (15)
I feel better got my dose of Scotty reviewing a Toyota
Come back for the second video
Remember reliability is more important and makes up for poor fuel economy
To me a 4 cylinder should have port injection and direct i dont think its worth having and direct and port at the same time is inefficient in terms of parts count and repair replacement costs. I byy a suzuki dr650 its basically a relic of the 80s harley even tweaked in design and it has 1 cylinder and 1 carburator and it worked fine. What is going on, is 8 injectors on a 4 cylinder really "efficient"
or get a sienna which has more space and will last as long with better mpg
@@eugene44569minivans cringe though
Scotty in land yacht lol
If no beauty cover so it's the best😂
Putting winter tires on the rear won't be as good as all 4.
Hard to beat 4wd or AWD.
@@northdakotaham1752i just dont like the added complexity. But if i was rich i wouldnt give a crap man id have 6x6 😂
Why put 4 if is rear wheel drive
@@felipemedina1048 Even if you don't have 4WD, you will have different levels of grip if you only put snows on the rear, and it does you no good if the front end loses traction.
@VideoArchiveGuy all the power in back wheels that's why I rotate my tires.
Hey Scotty how good are the little blue tooth scan tool for data and live data??
Beam me up, Scotty!
What year is this car and what was the price paid for it? I want to know what it is I'm looking for and that I'm not being taken advantage of
2013 Sequoia Platinum
@@donovanchilton5817 thank you!
Run searches on cargurus and auto trader and you'll have a good idea of what a good price for your target is based on a hundred listings.
I don't believe Scotty ever gave the model year. I find that this is routinely the case. I found the video interesting but without knowing the model of the vehicle discussed, the information is largely useless. Scotty, tell us the model year when discussing vehicles, PLEASE.
So what larger truck do I buy if not a tundra???
This dude paid 26grand for a car that has nearly 100k 😄 foh
I'm SO glad I bought one of those in 2020. I paid 64k and that 2020 platinum, with 3x the mileage mine has, are STILL selling for 55k.
I remember when this guy was relevant.
I wouldn't buy any car newer than 2020
Big V8
Be careful buying one. If gas goes to $6 a gallon, the fuel costs will be high high high.
I am looking for one actually. 2015 upward.
nice live aboard.. get the moon roof
I have a 2016 Nissan pathfinder with 183000 miles on it just replace the transmission and a few other things and it runs great
V8 is the only way to go In a truck. 4 cylinder has no power. V6 is the worst of both worlds. Bad gas mileage and not much power. In a car it just depends on the car
