  • UFC 296 had a lot of action but one of the moments that truly stood out was the brawl that erupted in the crowd between Sean Strickland and Dricus Du Plessis. Now with a podcast set to release with Sean Strickland on Theo Von, could we be seeing the unravelling or evolution of Sean Strickland?

    Thinking that Strickland, who never seemed to care that much about becoming champion and has lost fights before and shown it doesn't really affect him, would have a Ronda tier breakdown if he lost the belt is one of the weirdest takes I've ever seen.

      Yeah, they're not even remotely alike. Didn't understand that comparison either. If Sean loses, he'll probably make a perfectly fine concession speech and talk about coming back stronger and call someone gay or whatever.

      depending on how the fight ends up being and how DDP's demeanor is during and after the fight
      if Sean loses, he'll probably just be like "ahhhh this fucking guy, he's a badass you know what I'm saying like this dude beat me up so bad I'm getting flashbacks"
      ok maybe Strickland won't go that far but he has a self deprecating humor, he won't end up like Ronda 😂

  • @Alx-yy
    @Alx-yy Před 5 měsíci +197

    Comparing Ronda to Sean is a bit odd. For the most part Rousey was pushed from the start as a superstar. Dana and the world made her feel as if she was indestructible. Sean only became somewhat of a household name recently. I can’t imagine Sean acting the way Rousey did. Yes he will feel bad as anyone would when taking any kind of loss, but saying he might take it that far is a bit of a stretch.

      Yeah, Sean also constantly says he doesn't give af about the belt or winning, he just likes fighting. Who know if it's true, but seeing how he practically lives like a bum, and apparently (according to Joe Rogan) trains more than any other UFC fighter, maybe true.

      And btw, no one is laughing at Sean because of any of this. I battle mental health issues on the daily. I've had to call an ambulance for my mam who was unresponsive after a suicide attempt. This isn't a joke. People react differently to situations, and Sean has always reacted with a smile. This time he isn't, which is why some people are a little concerned.

    Here's the thing you guys, in my opinion. Strickland has been so single-minded and hyper focused on MMA he hasn't really had the luxury to sit down to reflect on his life. All the weight cuts, fight camps and media are massive distractions for looking at the past. You're too focused on the future and what's a head of you, you tend to not to look backwards. Now that Sean has achieved what most people don't accomplish, he's finally looking backwards at himself and all the hard work has paid it's due but how he got there is by his insane mindset and when he considers how he got that mindset in the first place he gets reminded about everything. The broken family, the abuse and the neglect all rolls back but he is a great example of putting your pain into a almighty force. You just need guidance and support around you and hope Sean has that. I love the guy.

      I think the think is that’s on purpose on Sean’s part. He’s on record saying he only fights to fund his sparring hobby. He stays busy for the sake of exactly that. Staying busy. Idle hands are the devils workshop. As long as he stays busy and has something to focus on, he doesn’t have to reflect like you said. But I don’t think the lack of reflection is because he’s been busy. I think he status busy because he doesn’t want to reflect

      @@thehoeynator I cannot believe that you guys are giving Sean a pass. If Dricus had not said anything, you guys would be championing Sean again for another great press conference and 10-8 rounds and what-not. And he was clearly antagonised into replying, the same guy who somehow kept it altogether when Izzy was antagonising when he was on a high from one of his greatest victories, one in which no one was giving him a chance. The only difference I can see is that Leon was not saying anything and hence the Colby pushback. What is more insane is that you guys would still be lauding Sean if Dricus said nothing, even though he was displaying the same behaviour as Colby. That is the real issue here...

      The irony here is that I'm not even a Strickland fan in that I don't align with his politics or other social views. But seeing that he took the opportunity to speak out for kids that come from abuse the way he did makes me see man opening himself up to his trauma and working toward accepting himself, albeit through a forced interaction. Only real difference between him and other people that do that is that he has the spotlight. So it compels me and probably a lot of other people that weren't fans of his before to become fans of what appears to be the *real* Sean Strickland.

    There’s a huge difference between making fun of what someone does as a grown man, which has no real effect on their life. Compared to making fun of child abuse. Sean Strickland drew a clear line when he called out Colby Covington for talking about Leon Edwards’ dad. There isn’t a “dish it out but can’t take it” he got knocked out on the world stage by Alex Pereira and owned his loss even while everyone made fun of him. But to sit here and compare Sean making fun of Israel mouth feeding his dog, and Dricus letting his coach grab his cup, to Sean getting abused as a child, and try to pretend it’s a fair comparison is dishonest.
